Title: LGM Chord Library
Post by: budda963 on December 04, 2007, 05:59:48 PM
We all know that expanding our personal chord libraries will make us better keyboardists. I was hoping that everyone could contribute the chords they use that way we can all have this thread to look to for new chords. Be sure to include some kind of explanation of how you use the chords. Sharing is caring...lol... I don't really use that many special chords but:

my I chord usually looks like this: Db F Ab/ C Eb F Ab
my V chord: Ab C Eb/ Gb Bb Db

ill keep adding chords as i figure them out.... now post post post

For a short two chord worship progression:

1/6b-1-2-5
1/5-1-2-3

I think thats backwards, and that 5 should be a 4

1/5-1-2-3
1/b6-1-2-4

ok here it is chorded out

Eb/BbEbFG
Eb/BEbFAb

but thats just my opinion. LOL! ;D :D

You don't need to be a beast for that, all u gotta do is recognize chords and be able to hear them.  ;)

A similar movement i do...

i derived it from a 7-3-6...
its chromatic going down...and this is one of the voicings i use.

1 / 5 1 2 3
7 / 5 7 2 4
b7 / b6 b7 2 5, 4(if u want)
6 3 / 5 7 1 3

Great idea Budda963 :o 8)

This is what i'm always working on & am always on the look-out 4 gr8-sounding chords/ progressions coz i just have fun using them in songs i alredi know etc..

I'd like to recommend that this topic be stickied..

To avoid redundancy, i've pasted this link to the "Cool Chord of The Week- 7b5"...
The 1st page has some cool chords & I posted a 4-3-(b3)-2-1 progression.

Here is 1 i think sounds cool..this is just from the back of my head..i was just trying to create background music yday morning:

3/5,6,1,2 (only press 3 with LH when U play 2 with RH)
 --/ 5(in  higher octave), 4,3 (the 3 is a roll from the 2 to create a trill effect),  6/5-(7)-1-3
--/3,1,  b7/5-(6)-(1)-2
 --/5 (in higher octave)
6/ 1-(2)-(4)-5  or b3/ 1-(2)-(4)-5
--/5,6,    b7/#1-4-5-b7
--/b7,6,5    6/1-2-(2)-(4)-5
2/4-5-6-1
5/4-6-1-2
1/3-5-1
1/3-7-3
4/6-3-6

etc....

I'm still trying to work on it....if any1 can help, I'd be very gr8ful..

another nice chord which I'm yet to play around with is

B-Ab/Eb-Gb-Bb, or if viewed in the key of F#, is : 4-2/6-1-3
maybe this can be used as an alternative to ...Ab/Gb-Bb-B-Eb  [2/1-3-4-6]
[i know it' the same chord guys b4 i'm bashed..just different voicing..i can't experiment coz i dnt hv board with me nw.

In the 7-3-6-2-5-1-4 progression in Ab......Here are some suggestions by Cas10a

FG/BbDBb -  (Gmin7 or Gm7) I think you made a typo, 'cause the G should be the lower bass (GF/BbDBb)

CEG/BbDbEG - Nice chording... Now we have G-C / 7-3 -- You can substitute/Pass on the C here with F#/Gb Chord...Tritone Substitution.

EbAb/CEbFAb - (Fm7) Just looking at the right hand, use the F in Left hand-chorded (FEb/CEbFAb). You can play either way, but if you are not playing with a bass player harder to hear this is an F chord. This is your 6...G-C-F

GBb/DbEGBb - From what it is looks like...you're walking from the F chord to your Bb chord. F-G-Ebdim7/Adim7(next chord below)-Bbmin7

EbA/EbGbAC - Since it is walking to the Bb...(AEb/EbGbAC-Adim7)  F-G-A-Bb walk...Your chord will work also.

BbFAb/FAbBbDb - Perfect G-C-F-Bb...Heres an alternate chord right hand (BbFAb/CDbEbAb)

EbBb/FGBbDb - Great G-C-F-Bb-Eb...alternate chord (EbBb/CDbG)

GBb/CEbAbC - take a look at the Ab chord...I see the (Abmaj9) but without the Ab in bass, once again, you can't really hear the Ab chord...try (AbEb/GBbCEb) same chord-Abmaj9)

E/EbAb/ - Filler
D/DbGb - Filler

DbFAb/CEbAb - Outstanding G-C-F-Bb-Eb-Ab-Db...Alternate Db Chord (DbAb/FBbCEb)

This BbM9 chord is my personal fav. @ the moment..
It's been so for the past 3 weeks.

I like it alot ,especially when ending "Now Behold The Lamb" before modulating to C.

Keep up the good work.

This is what Cmajor13 poster on H&P:

Here are some more chords I pick up. You can play this doing offering or you can use this as talk music or just a groove. Remember motif fans a nice Vintage, Early 70s,R&B Soft, Neo-Soul sound.Enjoy

G/Bb-F-A-C.....Gmin11
F/Ab-Eb-G-Bb.....Fmin11
Eb/Gb-Db-F-Ab...Ebmin11
D/F-C-E-G...Dmin11
repeat this as many times as u want

Eb/Gb-Db-F-Ab...Ebmin11
Ab/A-C-F-Ab.....dont know the name of this chord
Db/F-Bb-Eb-F.....Bbsus/Db

I'll give these a try later. Thanks. Are these played fast or slow? Most chords I work with are usually a nice slow-mid tempo.
I have another set I'll post later.

I played them (just like most of my posts) @ a slow to medium pace, so around 50-70bpm I think..I'm trying to make the sustainer my friend :)

If you want to try them in all the keys, see the Collection Of Talk Music thread for the key of Ab & the numbers ;)

Ok, after a revision of these chords, my ear prefers everything being played slow., so U can ignore those instructions to play fast..but let your ear be the judge. ;)

Here's one I've been working on. Not finished so add on.

BbFBb/CDbF
GbDbGb/BbDbF
(repeat then hit)
AbDBF/AbBbCDb
FCEb/FACEb

GbDbGb/BbDbF

AbDBF/AbBbCDb ?/?
FCEb/FACEb

Normally I'm not very keen on adding on substantially onto some1's progression because I do not know the intended idea they were trying to put across.
But nonetheless, I've done a lil something.

I liked the concept of these chords after trying them out, & came up with this:

[Red notes indicate the changes/ my input.]

Bb,F,Bb/C,Db,F
Bb-F-Bb/C-Db-F
Gb,Db,Gb/Bb,Db,F
Gb-Db-Gb/Bb-Db-F

(REPEAT above twice or thrice then hit...)

Gb-Db-Gb/Bb-Db-F-Ab
Ab,Db,Eb,F/Ab,Bb,C,Eb,F
Ab-Db-F/Ab-C-Db-F
F,C,Eb/F,A,C,Eb
F-C-Eb/F-A-C-Eb
Bb-Eb/D-Gb-Ab-Db
A-E-Ab/Db-Ab-Eb
Ab-Eb-G/C-G-D
F-C-E/B-E-A
Eb-Bb-F/Bb-Db-Ab
Eb-Bb-Eb/Ab-C-Db-F
Bb-F-Bb/F-Bb-Db-F

(end or REPEAT)

Sorry I eneded up making it too long :( My initial intention was to create a linking chord to create a loop since arpegiating will make the progression sound long anyway & will be way easier to memorize.

Yes, they are arpegiated/ played as single notes 1 after the other, starting from the LH & going thru' 2 the RH.

Yes, it just clicked to me that that was mean't to be a Db instead of D-B :-[ (I can be dumb @ times!)
