Great posts on pedal technique. The first year I played the organ, I didn't go near the pedals. I do okay with them but because I have somewhat large feet, it can be challenging to not hit more than one key every now and then.

Someone once told me to use ankle weights to quicken your pedal movements.

That's a good idea..does it work?
-
yes indeed!! You strap a ankle weight to your left ankle and do somewhat of a scale with your foot up and down the pedals. It's almost like resistance training and a lot of athletes do it. When you take the ankle weight off, you'll be playing a 20 min shout bassline with your feet lol
-
do some bass lines...you know just improvise on a bass line and just practice it on the foot bass pedal of the organ.

Playing pedals is pretty much the action as walking...heel toe, heel toe, heel toe...every now and then you slide across depending upon the tempo of the song. Again, use the same action used in walking.
Pick up my new video Sounds of Pentecost from showmethat.com...there's a camera just on my foot....just watch it and tell me what you guys think....

Yes, Doc i have heard of this and it works great, but the heaviest shoe that you can stand will work the best and it will also keep you honest in learning the pedals with a shoe. Bishop Cole

Timberland Boots???? Man, I don't see how some organists can play in timberland boots. How do they do that??
-
Its actuall kinda easy...................well for me. it helped me as far as technique is. I already had a big foot (12) so the pedals were hard enough. Put that with a boot and you got some problems. I'm not really the suit/tie type so I have a lot of boots lol. It made my feet faster and more accurate............to the point wher if I am in Eb,E,Ab,or A I can run the whole bassline with my foot no problem

It's hard for me to drive in boots. I was talking with an organ instructor a while back and we had a good laugh about my big foot problem.
