Oh GREAT!
Does this mean another jam track is going up of Running With The.....uh,....
.....nevermind..... ::)
(I kid, I KID!) 8)
Seriously, a way interesting player with quite a bag of tricks. Sweep picking looked absolutely effortless. Most interesting was his use of what seemed to be a stock Strat trem....NICE! Reminded me of Ray Gomez.
I enjoyed his Hendrixian quotes more than the Van Halen tapping passages...but his mock Van Halen dives on low "growl" notes with anything near a stock Strat trem was inspiring. I think I'll undo a trem from its fixed and locked down position and play around.
This video came at a nice time as I purchased a Boss Metal Core ML-2 last night. The guys in the church have been asking for ever more distorted tones and a recently borrowed and quickly discarded Tech 21 XXL pedal was simply TOO NOISY and annoying. I needed a mondo distortion pedal less for lead and more for harmonically full chord and power interval work with a tight bottom (READ:Chugga, chugga, chugga, chugga).
This Boss ML-2 is quiet and more controllable (unlike the Metal Zone or whatever). No more squealing when I palm mute. It's been hard to get saturated yet complex power chord tones without either the volume increasing past reasonable church use levels or the sound coming across like a Line 6 through computer speakers sorta wonky vibe.
This ain't a bad pedal for someone that rather dislikes anything ever released with the word "METAL" in the pedal name. Worth a try at your local Guitar Center with a bit 'o delay! :)

Don't take his question the wrong way. :-\
Eddie Van Halen and Hendrix......
......are two of my FAVORITE Gospel/Worship artists too! ;D
AMEN!

you could also hear alot of van halen in his using tones outside the pentatonic scale to spice it up...and his playing shapes instead of scale based stuff in parts. i remember reading an interview with Eddie YEARS ago and him stating that played more shape based stuff alot fo the time....so even though it wasn't "diatonic" to the scale, it worked because he played with conviction and authority. interesting....
I was never a huge van of EVH when they were big....I was way more into George Lynch and Warren Demartini for the 80's stuff. (john Sykes, Paul Gilbert and Richie Kotzen as well.....Kotzen maybe being my all time fav from that era) But I have come to appreciate what he did, and to enjoy his unique approach to the instrument.
I mean, let's face it....if it weren't for EVH and Hendrix, guitar would have never been the same. (there's obviously a laundry list of other players who have been very influential....they just came to mind)

Let's not forget the player who sounds like he was very influential to EVH yet seldom gets mention: Ritchie Blackmore.

Did everyone else notice the scalloped fretboard?
Ever mess with one of those? It's odd... requires hardly any touch... basically, it creates speed (and for me, sharp notes lol).
It would be cool to have one laying around, though.

This passage discribes a fine Bottle of 1976 Presano Umbria Merlot I have in my celar!
I dig the "Malmsteen Signature Strat" the scalloped finger board is tough on the finger tips though....... Don't think I'd ever buy one.........
