Yo LGM, Happy Holidays to you and your families(again). First, I want to thank all of you that attended the Drum Extravaganza this past weekend. You guys totally made it a success. Me and Rex are already planning next years event. It's probably gonna take two days next time. But again, thanks for helping us make the event a success!
For those of you in the Chicago and Midwest area, I'm doing a drum clinic on 1/5/08 at Greater Open Door Church, 1300 S. Kedzie Ave. The clinic starts at 12:30, and doors open at 12. The cost is $15. Keith Harris(Black Eyed Peas, Fergie) will also be a clinician that day. Keith is a monster and has soooo much information to share! He was supposed to be included in the event last weekend, but there were a couple of issues that prevented him from taking part. Anyway, if you're able, come out and fellowship. As always, I'll have some giveaways from the companies and artist that support me. Hope to see you guys there. God Bless and Happy New Year!

Thanks Juse....how you likin' the Elvin snare? I been thinkin bout gettin one. Only thing is, I got too many deep 14 inch drums already. The dvd and album are both in the works. I will be letting you guys know soon, how it's gonna go down. Thanks for the support!

whats up LGM fam happy holidays to all ,calvin is my boi and at the drum clinic the man killed I'm tell it all rex killed teddy with hit hats tecnique is a monter ,but calvin that cat had people in tears to see the anointing the brother has when he is playing he plays from the heart and alot of people felt the anointing in the church when he was playing the stuff he was doing make you sit there and rub your head and say WOW.
then if y'all miss new directions concert it was of the chane quin killed lil scooter killed y'all no teddy killed and calvin(!@#$%^&**&^%$#@!?/>.<,***///-`~) nuff said

The Elvin is my BABY!! I can't get enough of it. Its so sensitive. It responds to the lightest of touch. The wood hoops make all of the rimshot stuff come out clear as day. I'm also looking at the Billy Cobham snare. Its a banger too.
I think Teddy plays the Paul Leim or Anton Fig snare. Those are also some monsters to check out.

Ok kewl...I'm gonna do some investigating. I have both Paul Leim drums. I absolutely love them. Teddy plays the 5 1/2x14 model. Anyway, I'll let ya know if I cop the Elvin joint. Oh, Happy New Year to you all!!

I haven't had an opportunity to hear the Paul Leim snare. Care to give a description of its sound?
J_Kay, the Paul Leim drum is sick. It confuses a lot of people, because it appears to be steel. Its actually a brass drum though. I really don't care for metal drums...they're always a little hard on my ears. Plus, over the years, I just become so accustomed to the warmth of wood shells. However, the PL snare is suprisingly VERY, VERY warm. Great tone, with lots of crack. I'm speaking of the 5 1/2x14 right now. Every other brass drum I've had always gave me problems in the studio. Either it was overtone, or it lacked body(if you know what I mean). This drum is like the best of both worlds. THEN, Yamaha added the die cast hoops, but they're aluminum. Before I signed with Yamaha, I had the 5x13 DW Aluminum snare. I had Gerald get me some aluminum die cast hoops.....MAN OH MAN! That drum had the most crack I've ever had. So when I was investigating the PL drum, that was the icing on the cake for me. Now, the 6 1/2x14, has the same warmth, same crack, but just a little more body. It's great for studio sessions. I don't use it a lot live, but I think I might more in 08. Maybe I'll put the silver sparkle Yamaha away for a couple sessions. Well, hope I answered your question J....

LOL stepping out of the Mapex circle for a bit, yeah I really love the Paul Leim snare a lot too. I was going to get one before I signed with Mapex....Im a huge Paul Leim fan and had to have one but when I was looking into them I was told they were discontinued. I love the Paul Leim and the Manu Katche Yamaha snares the best.

Man, that rain on us w john p kee was that live or in the studio bc i cant find a video for it to save my life, not looking for the one w chris kee hes nice but the one w Calvin on it, does any have a video or dvd or no where i can get one ?

To answer your question, I own and use about 5 other snare drums, besides the PL drums. Just so you can get an idea of what these drums sound like, I listed a track that I know I used the other drums on. I have one or two other drums that I pull out every now and then. But for the most part, these snare drums are the ones I use mostly.
6x13 Yamaha Musachi(on Donald Lawrence version of "I Am Healed")
6 1/2x14 Yamaha Maple Custom Absolute(the infamous Silver Sparkle drum that I love soooo much)
5 1/2x14 Yamaha Brass Nouveau(on Hezekiah Walkers 20/85 "Let's All Celebrate")
5 1/2x14 & 6 1/2x 14 Yamaha Paul Leim Signature Snares(I used the 5 1/2x14 as a side snare on Martha Munizzi's new album. Great drum)
6 1/2x14 Dynasty Custom Drums Maple Snare(This snare drum is becoming one of my favorites. Check out the open solo on my myspace page to hear it.)
5x13 Yamaha Steve Gadd Signature Snare(mainly used as a side snare on road with FH)
Just in case you want to know, I fit all of my snares with Remo Coated Emperors on top and Remo Snare Side Hazys on bottom. I ALWAYS use Puresound snare strainers as well. I use the 30 strand wires on the the bigger drums, and the 20 strands on everything else. HOLLA

What was your impression...and right now who is in ur CD player or ipod...who are u feeling right now in the music biz..... Sad, but true about wwbw. I used to order my marching season supplies from the Fall of 1991 through the Fall of 1998. A few years ago, I wanted to order some items from them because Midwest Percussion messed up an $1,800.00+ order that I placed with them (watch out for them, too). I wanted to price match some items, and you know what they told me? "Why don't you just get it from them?" I was livid, to say the least. I got a manager on the phone (Bobby Wantuch - I remember when he was initially hired for his job at The Woodwind and Brasswind). I gave him my order history (1991-1998) and I've also informed him of the conversation with his representative and myself. He was willing to do a price match, but the way that I was treated, I just told him that I'd never order from them again.
Long story short, please call prior to ordering. *lol*

Anyway, to be honest, I've never heard Chris' version of Rain On Us. As far as what I'm listening to right now...EVERYTHING! I got a lot of underground Teddy Campbell and Rex Hardy stuff I been listening to. Also, a lot of Weckl. Wow. I haven't had them mess up an order THAT big. But I have had them be quite rude with me on returning something that was faulty. A pocket trumpet for my Dad. The valves were sticking after we bought it. We kept it for a little while, trying to work them out. Didn't happen. Called to return it, and they said it was too late they wouldn't be able to. . . Needless to say, I am not a customer there anymore either.
