Tha kid is looking to get a new board. What's the best board I can get for under 2 Grand?

I'm gettin the yamaha MO8 as soon as I sell by digital piano. I would get a motif es but they are way too heavy to be luggin around.

I would have to agree with the others get you a Motif or Roland there is nothing better out there for the sound and the money.

I was looking hard at the Yamaha M08, Kurzweil PC1SE, and Roland X6.
An 88 key, 76 key and 61 key.
I'm primarily an Organist, so a longshot would be the Nord Electro 2 73-key.
Of these three, which has the best:
Accoustic Piano
Electric Piano (Rhodes, Wurly)
and Strings.
These are the MAIN sounds I look for in a board.

Kurzweil - I personally have a PC2 (the PC1SE does not have the KB3 Hammond emulator, but has all the other sounds, including the Orchestral and Vintage sounds.
The Kurzweil TripleStrike Piano is a very very good electronic emulation of a concert grand piano. The Rhodes and Wurly sounds - especially the ones in the Vintage ROM that is included are excellent. String sounds are good, and you have your choice of generic string sounds or orchestral string solo and sectionals, also including some string effects for use in layering.
The only thing better is the new Kurzweil PC3X, which will be out this month (and mine is alreay on order) It has a whole ROM of String sounds that have never been released before, AND newer higher resolution samples of the PC2 and PC1 sounds.
Note that this is my opinion - I personally do not like the pianos on Korg, Yamaha, or Roland. I want something that sounds like a real acoustic instrument - not an electronic copy. I personally have a K2000VP synth (15 years old), SP88X stage piano, PC2, and K2661 synth already from Kurzweil. I do not work for the company or in any way have special pricing.
Before spending your money LISTEN to them all. Preferably, carry a first-class set of headphones (like Sennheiser or some of the high end Sony), plug in and listen - then make up your mind which sounds you like best.

For piano, EPs an absolute NO NO!! LOL! They have awesome basses, synths and brass though.

I believe they have some of the best piano sounds I ever heard. Like jlc4703 said, play them through good quality headphones, you will hear the difference. The motif is a awesome board, but if you not going to use the sequencer, don't spend the extra money. I am actually been a Kurzweil fan since I played the PC88 when I went to a church 7 years ago and been hooked since.

I think I would miss a lot of the features of the MOTIF if I get the MO, but I can get a MO8 for as low as $700 used, and es8 are still going for 1700 used.
i'd miss the extra in/outputs, pedel jacks, sounds, modulation switch location, built in power supply, but the Motif is nearly impossible for me to lug around by myself let alone fit in my car.

Thanks ddw4e. I've always felt the piano and EP voices were the most important aspect of any board. A keyboard without good piano and/or EP voices can only serve as a controller or secondary board.

True Kurzwiels do have the best Piano sounds and the best weighted Action, next is yamaha :) then roland then korg :(
I'm selling a Kurzwiel full size Digital Piano in NY if anybody wants it. Its a kurzwiel Mark 10 in perfect condition
