I want to use a PC music application as a practice tool. Specifically, to be able to loop songs and practice specific parts. Can you guys help? I had cakewalk but it was so complex I just got rid of it. Something simple please!
Thanx,
J.Pratt

Fruity Loops and Cubase SE1 works for me...u can chop up WAV MP3 etc. and loop the parts you want to practice. Holla at me if you need any with them!

I'm not sure what you're looking for exactly but I have had pretty good luck with an inexpensive PC software tool called MAGIX Music Studio 10 Deluxe (www.magix.com). It's typically sells on ebay for less than $20 new. If you connect a MIDI keyboard to your PC this tool allows you to play a song on the keyboard and it will record it just as you played it and produce the written score as well. You can also define loops so that a portion of the song is played over and over which helps a lot with practice. It's really a MIDI sequencer but it also does audio recording as well.
You can of course transpose songs to any key and change the tempo to a speed you're comfortable with in the learning / practicing process. It will also play back the song thru your keyboard at what ever sound (i.e., piano, organ) you select. I use it to teach young piano students and they like it because they can learn songs that THEY like rather than just what Thompson or Hanon or Schaum prefers.
Good luck in your search and I hope this helps.
