Title: Great Sounding Rides...
Post by: JFunky on January 14, 2008, 08:35:08 AM
...if you're looking for a Ride Cymbal that sounds totally "different" from the "church" Ping Rides, let me give you a few to look at:

1.  Zildjian 21" K Custom Special Dry Ride (Tommy Igoe, Steve Smith)

2. Zildjian 22" K Constantinople Med-Thin High (Gene Lake, John Riley, Horacio "El Negro" Hernadez, Antonio Sanchez)

3. Sabian 22" Manhattan Jazz Ride - (Terreon Gully)

4. Sabian 21" Signature Richie Garcia Salsero Ride - (Billy Kilson)

5. Meinl Byzance 21" Dark Ride

6. Meinl Rodney Holmes Spectrum Ride

7. Paiste New Signature Dark Rides (21", 22") different models. (JHaynes)

...check 'em out. 8)

Has anyone played the 20" HHX Legacy O-Zone Ride? I was thinking about getting that for a different sound other than the "ping" and wanted to know if anyone knew of any pro's or con's.

J as you know I own a Special Dry Ride and WOW!!!!!!! :o :o :o :o :o  What a great sounding ride!!! I'm not a spokesman for Zildjian, but that Ride is OFFICIAL!!!  The other rides that I'm really digging are the Zildjian High Definition Ride and the Complex Ride (by Zildjian) WOW!!  When I saw Horacio this past summer he was using the PreAged and the High Definition Ride.  Both sound great!!!! You have to love that "Vintage"  sound.  The rides are not the normal commercial Rides, but man do they sound great.    Check out those rides, especially if you're looking for a different sound.  Legacy's are nice too, but I dig their crashes more than the rides.  Take care and God Bless.

My 21" K Constantinople Big Band Ride has not let me down yet.  The K Custom Special Dry Ride is my next addition to the ride collection.  Dennis made me fall in love with that ride.  The stick definition on that ride is crazy.  It sounds like a "tah" and the bell sound is so friggin warm....

Just to let you know man.  Word on the street from my teacher Pat Petrillo that they are discontinuing the Special Dry Series (hi hats, rides, crashes, etc.)  So if you get one, get it ASAP!!!!!!!  Before you have to pay an arm and a leg for it LOL!!! Take care and God Bless.

Indeed.  Zildjian rides are just more innovative than Sabian.  But as far as crashes and splashes, Sabian is winning that race.

Yeah man, I study with Pat.  Pat is a really cool cat!!!!  Jason Gianni, is really good too.  He's really into polyrhythms and Progressive Rock.  However, what's funny is Jason played drums on the Sponge Bob Square Pants theme music.  LOL!! However, the cat can play!!  Pat is a real inspiration and a great educator.  Take care and God Bless.

p.s. you should check out Pat's Curriculum it's tight!!!

http://www.patpetrillo.com/DVD.htm

Just check it out.  It's on Hudson music now.  It's the DVD, Book and a playalong CD.  I  know I gave a review on it a while ago, just search for it on LGM.   However, Pat is a well educated cat, with a great heart and desire for education.  This cat can play and TEACH, a true educator.  The package is worth all the money (I forgot what it cost).  I got one of the first copies and was kind of a ginnie pig for the project, so I have my copy with misprints and all LOL!! So I hope all is well.  Take care and God Bless.

Carlito

p.s. Juse get that Special Dry Ride!!!  Those Constantioples (sp?) are official too.  Pretty expensive, but man do they sound SWEET!!!

Thanks for the plug man.  Your teacher is no slouch at all.

I love my Constantinople ride.  I won't let it go because the Big Band ride was discontinued.
