Title: Most Influential Teacher You Ever Had
Post by: Main5playah on February 05, 2008, 05:49:10 PM
I'm sure  most of us on the board primarily started out teaching ourselves how to play Bass, and I'm sure we all reached a point where we felt frustrated and wanted to progress further, at least I did and after which the search for a good teacher began. I went through about 4 teachers before I met the one teacher that truly helped me to understand the instrument and exactly what it was I was attempting to produce out of it musically.  Antar helped me to realize Al needed to sound like Al, and until I found Al and allowed Al to come out I could never satisfy what I was hearing inside of me. I had to stop attempting to be a bootleg Jaco, Marcus and Vic and just believe and allow Al to flow.
Antar Goodwin is a dynamic Bassist who has studied the instrument all of his life and teaches Bass throughout NJ, I was blessed the day I took my first lesson, without a doubt I am a better Bassist today because of Antar. This is a link to his bio page:

Anderson "Butch" Stewart. Brooklyn NY. He passed me on to another teacher regarding bass because he taught me all he could (he's primarily a keyboard player) but still teaches me music itself. i approach my instrument so much better from a musical aspect even just by having a 5 minute conversation standing outside.

I've had many people influence my playing but the most influential person would have to be Dwight Perkins.  I might as well call him the "Neighborhood Bassman,"  he has taught many from the little area of Axton, Va.
