LOL 2 small print. I understand bruh! No problem!

You can do "Start->Run" and type "msconfig" too. There's a startup tab.
-
So now you got 2 ways LOL!
I haven't done the msconfig way in a while cause I usually do it from SB.
-
I love to use Spybot. It has been very helpful.
-
I just used msconfig and the GUI wont stay on the screen long enough to look at it. lol

Sometimes, you still have to edit the registry. The last time I had some spyware, I had to reload the PC. I have to do that so much that I have it down to a science.

I may need to pick your brain too, then. ;)

Let me ask this question. When, as I'm shutting down my computer, there's a program that hasn't "ended" is that an indication that I have some sort of spyware or virus? :-[ :-\

Most likely, if it is happening everytime you shut down the computer...a program is running hidden.

I thought so. Which is usually why, the very next time I log on, I either do SPYBOT or AdAware to try and get rid of it.
DDW4E, or anyone who has viewed the YOUTUBE clip, will this reconfiguration help with eliminating this problem, or is there something else I need to do?

I did that only once (editing the registry) on another PS with some spyware. Man that is NO JOKE!!

If you keep having to run Spybot or AdAware and the problem is continuing on shutdown then those programs aren't removing the particular program that is running hidden...I'm assuming the program is not normal system driven being that I can't look at your system and see what program is not terminating on shutdown.
You may have to use another Spyware/Adware removal program (none of them are all inclusive for removal of adware)... try Norton, etc.,
or...
If worst comes to worst back up your files to disk, format & repartition the hard drive and reload the operating system and all your software...It's easier if you have a restore disk (just remember to back up the files you want to keep)...lol ;) :)

With the exception of the "try Norton" suggestion:
?/? ?/? ?/? ?/? ?/? ?/? ?/? ?/? ?/? ?/? ?/?
My question is, why isn't ONE virus/spyware protection system good enough? ::)
I have SPYWARE, ADAWARE and AVG.
Now, I run SPYWARE and AD-AWARE, "religiously". AVG seems to manage itself.
Anyway, as I was saying... ?/? ?/? ?/? ?/? ?/? ?/? ?/? ?/? ?/? ?/? ?/? ?/? ?/? ?/? ?/?

Spyware and Adware software is ever evolving...that is why most anti-spyware program are continuously upgrading (patches), however, None of them are all inclusive...meaning none of them will detect/remove every type of spyware imagineable. It is rare that when a system is infected with spyware that it is only 1 spyware program (usually there are many present).
Other solutions would be to manually try to remove spyware software from the registry or wherever it's hidden, but first you would need to know what the spyware software is (what you are looking for) and then maybe it would be possible to remove/uninstall.
This is why some user's...including myself, if my system was badly infected with spyware and anti-spyware software was not helping, would simply choose to do a clean reinstallation of operating system and all software on my system.

a. How does one do the part in bold.
b. I just downloaded, what I believe to be, a newer version of SPYBOT (S&D 1.5.2.20). Can I get rid of the "old" or do they work in tandem?
c. I also have, what I believe to be, two versions of AVG (Free Edition, and Anti-Spyware 7.5). Do they work in tandem or can I eliminate one of them?
-
Hmm..no more help? :-\

If you have a restore disk, its easy...usually most of your main software will be loaded on the disk and it will walk you through the format and reload. You may have to install drivers for certain devices and a few other software programs that came with your system, but all the disk should be there to get you back to a fresh install if you kept everything. NOTE: Make sure you back up your personal files you saved that you want to keep, (ie ".pst"-mail files, favorites, etc.,)

I'm not familiar with these programs, I normally use BlackIce, Norton, HistoryKill...and I never use the free versions of any anti-virus/spiware/adware software...they usually don't have everything you need. Anyway, always make sure you have the latest versions/patch...If it is a patch to the freeware program, then yes you need the freeware program installed.

Same applies here as in "b."

STOP RAMBLING!!! :D :D :D
Just kidding....good stuff, sir.

In other words...
Most PCs have either the restore dvd or a partition (a division of a hard disk) which stores all you need to restore the PC to it's state that you had it when you first turn your PC on for the first time. If you have either one, you can use it but you have to backup all your important info cause if you don't you lose it in the restoration process (cause it will erase your hard drive before putting back XP, your drivers like sound card and network card etc.)
