Title: A keyboard question please
Post by: w42879 on February 14, 2008, 10:24:27 PM: Is there a such thing as a keyboard that will not play without an amp? I've heard that there are some keyboards that won't allow you to use headphones or just play without an amp---is this true?

no prob. you can always go to a guitar center or Sam Ash to check em all out, or download the manual from the Manufacterers website

To answer your question, yes there are keybaords where u have to have an amp in order to play them. Any keyboard that you have to plug in (not talking about battery) before it works also needs an amp. I believe that it is only with a lot of the older model keyboards. Most of the new ones you can play w/out an amp. We have an older Roland at our church and it won't play w/out an amp.

It is very easy to find a keyboard that requires either headphones or an amp(does not have onboard speakers) Most professional keyboards do not have onboard speakers. There are notable exceptions in the arranger and digital piano groups. Most of your portable arrangers have onboard speakers.
