Oh, and as for the keyboard, yeah, I'd buy it.  I never hesitate to buy stuff from folks on Ebay who have a good rating and impressive feedback.

Okay, I hate to have to tell you this, but the $250 isn't the BIN price (buy it now), that's just the current bid.  And it still has 6 more days at auction... so, it's pretty unlikely you'll get it for that price (unless that's an average price for that keyboard... and I don't know a darn thing about keyboards so I don't know what that's worth.  But, if $250 seems like an amazing deal, chances are, in 6 days, the current bid will be way higher than $250.  :-\

The Keyboard looks good and all, but considering that the $249.00 is the starting bid with 6 days of bidding left, I can't help but think it's going to turn out a little more expensive. If you're looking for something instantaneous, I'd suggest using the "Buy It Now" option. With that, you're guaranteed to win at a set price.

Also, try Craiglist.

+1 craigslist is the best. just be careful of scams, pay in cash and have your husband with you when you pick stuff up, just to be safe.

nope, the thing said synth action, I wish they made 76 keys weighted, cuz I never even use the real low and high keys

Also make sure that you play the board before you buy it, to make sure it fits you. Thats something you cant do with ebay. If you want weighted keys you might want look into the Korg triton 88 pro-x, (though I didnt like the feel of them, they are still wieghted) also the older korgs dont seem to have any good grand piano sounds. take that into consideration. If I were to buy a korg, it would be purely as a 2nd board, for other sounds and not piano.

God bless you in your search

You are a very, very, wise man. I am impressed by your wisdom....SERIOULSY!! Some of those people on craigslist are INSANE fa' real. I actually bought through them before but it never occurred to me to look for a keyboard there. I have decided to go with the Yamaha S90ES...second hand that is. Hopefully I'll find the right deal, especially now that I have gotten the help of my fellow LGmers. Thanks a million to alla yall. ;)

Maybe in one aspect, but if he said Craigslist is best, then he doesnt account for the lack of a community collectively trying to build great reputations as sellers and buyers as is commonplace on Ebay. With recourse, I might add.

Ok may I ask you something, I went to craigslist but they don't have what I'm looking for. I saw the Yamaha S08 again which is my price range but it doesn't have sliders. Is there a such thing as buying a controller with sliders to hook to that particular keyboard?

Yeah there are some wierdos there. If I'm selling something small, I never meet them at my house, but when I sold my piano I had no choice.

A few months ago there was somebody selling a Porsche on craigslist, so a couple drives to go buy it, They bring a ton of cash with them and when they get get to the guys house, they were robed at gun point. I say that to say you gota becareful.

I see your point, but I'd rather just make an offer for a quick sale, no worries about being scammed, shipping etc. And you can check out whatever you are buying, before you pay. and there are some great deals on there.

But there is a downsie, sometimes you gotta play "email tag" and thats annoying, and sometimes you have no shows, but all of my craiglist transactions have been cool

As for the keyboard, if you can get it at a bargain price, then go for it, but just because he/she says it works doesn't mean it does.  Usually a bidding war starts in the last few hours on the product.  I one missed winning a Lakland bass by $20 in a bidding war.  I was livid.  Wait until the last day during the last couple of hours to bid. You may come out better that way.  If you have an eBay account, track it with thw "watch this item" feature to keep up with the price. Just know that you may have to battle some of these quiet LGM folks now.  Good luck if you do bid.  Another thing you can do is check out the pawn shops in town.  You can find some stuff that the pawn have no idea about and get it for crackhead prices.  I once bought a $900 sequencing keyboard with a case for $200 at a pawn shop because the guy didn't know what he had.

Also, be very careful if you do win.  if the seller tries to bypass PayPal to receive payment, then it's a scam.  You wil not be protected without using PayPal.

Congrats on the new board sis!  I think it was a good move.  I kinda made the mistake of buying a used piece that seemed great back in the day.  I really wanted a Korg 01W way back then.  When I saw a rack version for a couple hundred bucks, I jumped at it.  It turned out not to be nearly as great as how I remembered.

You have no idea how relieved I am, my other keyboard started acting up and I just got a job playing so that was not good at all. Now I just have to learn how to record MIDI files and learn how to operate it...before next practice which is Wednesday.... :'(

It's cool though, I'll use my old board until I get comfortable using my M08.....yall could kinda help a sister though cause I still don't know what slidders are fo' (int) :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[

Congrats on the board. Its a pretty nice board. My church uses the MO8 as the lower board. I only use the board for its piano sounds, much better than the piano on the Fantom.

I'v wondered about the sliders myself. I noticed that the sliders adjust the sound level for different sections of the board. For instance, the slider on the far left controls the sound levels for the notes an 2 octaves below middle C. I know it has some applications for organ but i am not an organist and do not use organ sounds so i have NO clue what else they could be for.

In summary, to me its a really intimidating board. I use the Fantom and will only use the MO8 if i need to play piano sounds.

Now since you've got a Yamaha with Sliders, you're in good shape.

This is what I use mine for. Hopefully you have a Performance Mode like the Motif where you can set up four individual sounds assigned to the sliders, so

My current setup is a Piano -Strings - Brass Horns - Organ

Now while we're playing on sundays with the flick of a slider I can blend in the strings when Im ready or kick in to overdrive with some brass, when I want to change the atmosphere, I change the sounds. No searching for sounds during service! Its a true gift to keyboard players everywhere.

And when you're in Voice mode,
you have control over certain parameters of a sound. The Motif has this sound called Piano & Strings. The first two sliders are piano sounds, and the last two sliders are a string ensemble and a solo string sound. You can mix them whatever way you like.

On organs, they work like drawbars

Play around with it, sliders are your friends

I believe the sliders act as a mixer on the board. When recording or live you can adjust the instrument attached to that one to mix it the way you want..

Congrads on geting the board! The only thing I know how to do is choose sounds, and save them as favorites.
For basic playing, just press VOICE...CATEGORY SEARCH...and the voice you wanna use. To save voices in your favorites, just choose the voice, then press  F5, you will see an X in the box next to the voice, then press the favorites button, all your selections will be in there. Glad I cold be of help.

As for the sliders, I would use the piano and strings or the pianoback patch and use the 1st and 3rd sliders to control the 2 sounds. Very useful, during worship songs.

For organ sounds, this is very useful. On the Organ sound "fully"  the fist slider is your 16',8'+4' drawbar. the second slider is your 5' 1/3 drawbar. the 3rd one is for your 2' +1' drawbars and the 4th one is your last two black dissonant drawbars. I can send you a video where I used the sliders as drawbars.

Pretty much C! it saves you time looking for stuff. The only thing I don't like is that when you sustain and changing sounds, it cut off and won't hold the sound.

OHHH....The USB port on your board is your midi port to the PC...you need to download the driver for the board to do midi (actually to play midid on the PC).

http://www.global.yamaha.com/download/usb_midi/files/um222xp2.zip

Just get that and install and you can use it with Cubase (not a fan of that).

It might help if you assign the sounds you wanna use to a slider, that should make the transition smooth. I think it is explained in the urban worship extreme DVD. if yall want , I can put it on youtube

I give you my drivers then. You have XP or vista? And yes, if you have the USB cable you can do midi to the PC. But you need a standard one if you going to connect to another keyboard oior module.

I may get my board back this week...haven't seen it since the first sunday of Jan. :D :D SO I can help you with it as well. The sequencer is not hard but once you get it, it's a breeze.

I have Vista...

congrats on your new board. I have a mo8 also, and im still stuck. Im still trying to figure out the midi thing? ;D
It's good to know that I'm not stuck in this alone....LOL :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[

No problwm Vonne!  :)

Vista Driver For Yamaha MO8 (http://www.learngospelmusic.com/media/albums/userpics/10023/Version3_0_2.zip)

Unzip folder

Plug USB cable to MO then to PC

Turn MO on and it going to ask for the location. Browse it to the folder (you just unzippd...then point it to the driver folder)

Vista should pick it up and you good to go for that part...LOL! Then you have to configure it to your sequencer program (Cubase or whatever you using on the PC) to pick it up.

LOL!! Cubase is a a sequencer program that you would use to do your MIDIs or audio from (unless you want to do them on your MO itself). DAW (digital audio workstation)  is a system designed to record, edit and play back digital audio. In other words you can record on your MO and play it back on your computer for recording. Don't worry about DAW right now, you already confused with what I JUST typed :D :D.

I've only used voice mode, 1. hit "voice" 2. Hit Catagorey Search 3. hit Organ. I use the patch called "fully" and it lets you use sliders as drawbars. and of course you have the mod wheel as the leslie switch.  I hope that helped

That you have to read the manual to do that. LOL! You pick a patch in PERFORMANCE mode . Then you change the sounds to what you want (I think you hit SF2 to get there once you get in that mode). some patches are already split (your best bet to having to set the limits yourself) and you can just change the sounds and store it on your board or you have to do it all over when you turn it back on.

What are some good sounds that you use U13???

The only sounds I use are the Dark piano, piano and strings, RnB soft (rhodes patch) and the organ sounds.
You just gotta experiment. If you are ever a back up keyboard player dont limit yourself to string and horn sounds, try some out of the box sounds.

There are a lot of sounds hat were on the motif that they left out :'( like the minisub bass patch) That was the only smooth bass patch they had, so i dont know why they excluded it.

I going to explain it as I possibly can,

1. Go to Performance Mode

2. Pick any patch

3. Push the F2 key (should be called Voices)

4. Usually what I do for the top that's for the left side and the second one is for the piano so to change the sounds, hit category and go to bass and pick a sound then hit Enter.

5. Do the same for the piano.

6. If you have extra voices in that patch, you can delete them unless you want to do layering...and if you do that do the same steps in step 5).

7. To physically split the board, on the bass sound, you press and HOLD the SF5 button (Limit H) and press the key where you want the highest key to be set at. Then press and HOLD the SF4 (Limit L) and hit the low A key. For the piano sound, press and HOLD the SF$ (Limit L) and press the key you want to start the piano split. (For example, if you end the bass at C4, then you start the piano Lower limit at C#4). To be sure that it's including the keys at the end, HOLD the SF5 button (Limit H) and hit the last C key.

Hope that explains it! :)

You can save sounds. When you finished editing /creating sounds, hit the STORE button and that's it.

It should be under the performance mode. if just a sound, I think it be in voice mode under user1 or user2. You have to look for it, but it's there.

All you gotta do is be in voice mode, and category search, and choose the 'keyboard' catagory and wichever one you want. I like the one called R&B soft, but there are other good ones

Sorry If I confused you, Fender Rhodes is a type of electric piano, so you wont find a patch called 'rhodes'.  most of the electric piano sounds are emulating a rhodes

The "Rhodes-type" sounds are under the Keyboard category.

I am determined to get my board back TONIGHT, even if I have to go up to my bros's house to get it! :D I actually more concerned about getting my amp back...need my KC550 for a rehearsal on Friday.

MY ADDRESS IS:

The Lord is my Sheperd
I shall not want
He makes me to lieth
In pastures green
..Surely Goodness & Mercy
Shall follow me
For the rest of my life

I look forward to those gadgets being shipped.
I've enquired with a courier & they've confirmed it should take about 4 days to arrive at the harbor.
Please make sure MY NAME is prominent on the shipping documents so that my sister doesn't claim the stuff belongs to her.

Thanks in advance.

Yours truly

Me. ;D
