Me too. I really dont wanna think about that whilst eating. It Would be helpful if posters would not only post a link, but tell us what the link is about. Or better yet, copy the article into thier post.
And while we are talking 'bout gruesome stories, can yall please stop posting stories of kids dying etc.
-
WOW
-
This is truely horrible! I did notice they didn't mention the gender(s) of the children. Not that it matters but generally they mention it.

I peeped that too.
Back in the day you would assume
that it would be two little girls...
But these days...you just can't
think that way anymore. :-\

He did this to 4 and 5 year olds? I bet yall would want to know if this guy was living next to you and your kids.

What is one to do if you were to find out this guy was living next door?
Redy, you right. You never know what to expect these days.

It could be because some people appreciate reading the news - however disturbing it may be. (I happen to be one of those folks). Though I realize that some people really try to avoid the "sad" or "gruesome" news stories, there are some (like me) who just want to read every news article relevant to the world in which we live.
I do agree, however, that it might not be a bad idea to alert folks that the link might be disturbing so they don't have to click it if they don't want to.

Move
Warn and educate your kids
Not letting your kids go play with the rapist's younger siblings
Depending on where you live, you can have him kicked out of the town (not that i'm endorsing that)
Anyway That ninja just looked like he had an STD.

I realize this is a sexually-transmitted disease, but I'm trying not to assume (or trying not to believe) that this young man actually had intercourse with these children.
Does anyone know of a way to transmit gonorrhea without intercourse? Just curious to know how that might be done...

I'm sure you can get it oraly as well

Move
You may not be financially able
Warn and educate your kids
You should do that anyway
Not letting your kids go play with the rapist's younger siblings
You should know who your kids are playing with and be on the lookout at all times.
Depending on where you live, you can have him kicked out of the town (not that i'm endorsing that)
So there isn't much else you can do whether you know there's a sex offender near you or not.

Disgusting. I appreciate these stories being posted, because in spite of how difficult it is to read about this stuff daily, I'd rather face what's going on in the world than be oblivious to the fact that it's happening.

I don't think one can equate one with the other. Meaning, just because one doesn't read EVERY SINGLE horrific story in the news means they have their head in the sand about the ills of society. :-\
In addition, If one continues to keep focusing or finding all of this deplorable mess, in the news, one may begin to believe that there's nothing that can be done.
Bottom line, I agree that there should be some type of disclaimer attached to these types of posts and allow folks to choose.
BTJM. :-\

I can't agree with the first part. But, as for the part in bold, of course I agree that might be a good idea (as stated earlier). But, wouldn't that be rather difficult to regulate? What about the newbies or even regulars who "didn't get the memo"?
Maybe we should just avoid clicking links until we can use context clues from other posters to ascertain what the link will be about? For those of us who prefer to avoid upsetting news, I mean...
Using this thread as an example, after a few posts, it was clear that this article was sad news. After a few more, it became even clearer what the article was about. So, folks really didn't have to click it in order to know what it was about, at that point. Maybe the folks who are more sensitive to bad news should just wait a little bit before clicking. :-\

What 'memo'? In your thread title, you could either just say what the link is about or simply type, "Bad news" or something to that effect.
This way folks can decide if they even want to enter the thread in the first place.
Either way, it's merely a suggestion. :-\

I think it's a good suggestion.
What I meant was what about the thread-starters who didn't read the request or suggestion to advise unsuspecting readers of sad/bad news... they'll still post without the warning, and there'll still be folks who click because they didn't know it was bad/sad news... "didn't get the memo" was a figure of speech gone wrong... LOL

Another way is through birth...if the mother has it, she can pass it on to her lil one

I use this all the time. Whether or not I will read a thread depends first on the title... if it's ambiguous and I don't have a lot of time, I'll skip it all together. LGM is pretty vast, and if I only have a few minutes, I have to filter out possible time-wasters, lol. I also consider the poster and their reputation for the type of stuff they post. If I'm generally not interested, I'll normally skip those, too, lol.
Once I get into a thread and there's a link, all vids are automatically out, if I'm at work, but other than that, I use other responses as a rule of thumb as to whether or not I want to read it.

Ditto.
For some reason, I'm just not interested in seeing a bunch of YouTube videos.... I think it has something to do with my attention span (or lack thereof). So, as a rule of thumb, I just don't click on the YouTube links. BUT.... every now and again, the context or somebody else's comments in the thread will make me curious, so I'll click on it... but never without some sort of idea of what it's about.
And like you said, I'll also rely on the reputation (or more accurately, my perception) of the poster.

How bout we think on the good and lovely and perfect though?

We still gotta be sober and vigilant, though... lol.
Naw seriously, CSE, reading an article like this doesn't hinder ME from thinking on the good and lovely and perfect and those things that are of good report. I hate to say it... maybe I'm just desensitized to some things... but, the truth is, I read it, I shake my head, and maybe throw in a "Lawwwwwd hammercy," and I move on to the next article. :-\ BTJM.
I'll still say that those of us who don't like reading stuff like this don't HAVE to... nobody's tying you down. Now SJ really didn't have the benefit of reading a bunch of comments to get a clue as to what the article was about, but you did. :-\ You didn't have to read it... :-\

It might just be me, but any time I open a thread on a gospel website, I expect it to be reasonably positive. When I open one to find its negative, I feel duped.

Naw, it probably ain't just you. :)
But until 4HG makes a rule saying that we can't post news items that aren't considered "positive," the best thing to do is to just not click on the link. :-\

Or, at the very least, there should be more of a balance between the good and bad news that's posted. Lately, it's been nothing but negative on just about every subject under the Sun. :-\

Thats the problem with a lot of churches, they only wanna speak on the positive or Happy 'milk and honey' subjects. Some things that may be considered negative, need to be disscused, Even if we are uncomfortable talking about them. Doing so may help some of the members of this site.
Now hearing about 4 year olds getting the claps? I think thats pushing the limit. How is that gonna help any of us in life? If wanna hear stories like that I can go to CNN or Fox news.
But I cant really talk, cuz some of my topics are 'out there'

But even the bible is not all positive... and we can't just ignore the parts that are tragic or unsettling, because they're vital. They give us the full scope of God -- his love and mercy on one hand, his wrath and vengeance on the other, and all points in between.

And in no way, do I think you have to always discuss rosey , happy-go-lucky-J.O.type news. But as it was said before, some stuff isnt good for anyone to hear. ie the ones of a disturbing, disgusting, and or MORBID L nature.

I just got a note from Jonathan offering me $50, so let me say this:
I do agree that there seems to be an imbalance of good news versus bad news. But, my take on that is that:
(a) people aren't as interested in reading/responding to good news items relating to people they don't know as they are in reading/responding to bad news items relating to people they don't know; and
(b) people post what interests them, and what they think might interest someone else. If we're lacking good news around here, it's not because folks are posting too much bad news; it's because other folks aren't posting any good news. :-\ Or perhaps it's a bit of both... but the responsibility isn't solely on those who post bad stuff...
And for whatever it's worth, I think this is a great discussion.
(And j/k about the note from SJ... lol)

Why do "other folks" have to post the good news; why can't the same people, who spend all that time searching out and posting bad news also post good news?
Just a thought. Cute line about the $50, though. :D

I knew you'd ask that. My short answer: see my letter "(b)." People post what interests them, and what they think will interest someone else. Another short answer: because the "other folks" are the ones complaining... lol. ;) Solve your own problem. :D
Long answer: why do you have the impression that people make a note to themselves to "search out and post" a bad news item on LGM?? I mean, maybe I'm giving folks too much credit, but I highly doubt that anyone is actually looking for bad news to post on LGM. Truthfully, there are only about 3 or 4 folks here that regularly post news items. There is nothing about them that gives me the impression that they wake up in the morning and set about their business of finding a bad news item to post. What's more realistic and most likely is that these are people who read the news online, and when they see an article they want to share, they share it. Period.
Nobody is doing any research to find the worst news of the day and post.
And as for me personally, I'm not going to add another item to my list of things to do, and make myself seek out a good news item to post on LGM just to bring balance to the site. :-\ That's just bonkers. :D :D :D :D :D

Because those are the only types of 'news' items that they post, usually. And, perhaps you are giving folks too much credit. There's no way to really tell, I guess.
I disagree.

By the way, what I tend to do myself is post the items that drop my jaw (and 8 times out of 10, those are what you might consider "bad" news). Good news just doesn't drop the jaw as much, but this did...
Last night, I saw this on the news and couldn't wait to share it. Of course, I forgot about it until just now.... lol.
A lady somewhere in Maryland (didn't catch the name of the county) was having a hard time selling her house... guess what homegirl did???? (I mean, this truly dropped my jaw).
She sold raffle tickets for $100. Yes, $100.00!!!! If you were the lucky ticketholder, you just bought a HUGE and beautiful house for $100.00. The buyer wins, the seller wins... it's a win/win situation!!! Oh, and she sold 500 tickets, BTW.
I'm gonna peruse some local news and see if I can find an article on it.
