Anyone going to Gerald Veasley's Bass BootCamp this month?

I wish I could. I have a scheduling conflict. I did get to go a few years ago and it was off the chain! I want to try and go to Victor Wooten's bass & nature camp. I keep them on my calendar but it usually conflicts with something.....

Que ... that was my issue last year, plus I think I found out about it pretty late. I definitely look foward to attending. I've been desiring to attend a clinic for some time now.

$450 dollars. thats the main reason why i had an interest in doing my own. most upcoming musicians cant afford that. but God willing i have to make provisions and plans for my own thing. maybe next year i can get it working because i got too much on my plate right now.
its that here in NY its too much competition and ego. too many cats tryin to make a name for themselves and when they do a lot of them look down on people just starting out, like they never been at that place before. u gotta be nice in order to be acknowledged that you exist and even talked to.
ladybass, just like from before when i got Norm Stocktons information from you and i contacted him and got back to me within a week or so and said that he doesnt really be in NY but has some people that have done things like that before with him and he was glad to forward them my info and what i was looking for and let them know that they can contact me. It was two people he gave the name of and neither one of them have contacted me to this day. Most likely because im a nobody. But i bet if i was some big name out there they wouldve contacted me in a heartbeat. They dont benefit from helpin a nobody, especially a nobody that wants to help other nobodys and not try to make a profit off of it.
trust me, i even had plans to have other things for people that dont have the money to be paying for this big stuff and it would be free or like a $10 donation to be a blessing to the teachers i have who are willing to participate in such a thing. i pray it comes together. no big names, no famous people, no one overlooked. just learning and encouragement. ya'll pray for me.

I Hope it comes together for you floaded27. I held a free clinic here in my area, not that many people showed up, even though it was free. Unfortunately sometimes it takes "Names" to pull folks in.

Yeah man, there should have been a lot more people, that was a LOT of great information given in that clinic. I dunno, I'm starting to think that Austin (and perhaps Texas as a whole) isn't really the type of place where gospel musicians really get together and hold clinics and sheds. Other places seem to do it regularly and folks show up in big numbers, but I see nothing like that around here. Maybe we're just way out of the loop or something, because if it's happening in Texas then I'm not seeing it.

I've heard the Houston Scene is different, but I haven't seen it for myself. Maybe we should be pioneer's!

I would love for one to be in Texas..anywhere in Texas! I am up north in Dallas and due to a scheduling conflict I had to miss Sean Byrds workshop. Texas would benefit a great deal from them. All of the bassists up this way have been really cool. I have been blessed to be able to call upon many gospel bassists around here for information, guidance and just plain help! There haven't been any egos that I have experienced.

I feel ya, I actually pity those who find there Identity in their ability to play. I really think most don't realize how they got there
they just fell to the PRIDE Monster. I constantly remind myself, that God resists the Proud, gotta stay humble as a musician.
I mean I know the baddest musician in Heaven, got kicked out of Heaven, because of Pride/EGO.

Hey Floaded, try not to take it personally. I have been playing since the mid 70's. Occasionally, somebody wants lessons. I am not all that, but I really don't have time, with my semi-professional schedule to teach anybody. I would like to, but I can't. If the people who were referred to you are on a pro level, it's tough to make room in the schedule.

i dont really take it personally because i dont know them and they dont know me. so thats basically what it is. but it wasnt for lessons or anything like that. it was that i wanted my to setup my own clinic/workshop and i wanted some tips. my main concern was that i didnt want to offer too much info that it was overwhelming or not enough that it was lacking. My mentor who gets involved with all types of things regarding music told me some insight about it in like 10 seconds. The thing was that Norm said he had just came from out of the country and was preparing to go back out of the states the next day or so. so he forwarded my info. Now this guy is not even from NY and he's between trips and got time to shoot me a reply saying he cant help but will forward my info. Now why couldnt they just say "i cant help" or "i dont have time"? I just have a feeling if i was some big name, if they couldnt do something themselves they wouldve had some people on it or at least contacted me back for future contact.
and steelpulz, if someone emailed u about lessons would you contact them back and say you cant or would you just purposefully ignore it and say "they'll understand"? more than likely they'll feel that no response means steelpulz doesnt even find you important enough to even tell u no.

You are right about that. A response would be common courtesy.

I've been guilty of not receiving emails, and having to email a couple of times as well... Some folks get alot of emails, and have to weed through them, don't check emails daily, emails hit spam folder that are not spam. There are a whole lot of variables involved.
If you can get a phone number call it. That way if they ignore voicemails, or hang up on you... you know were you stand... LOL!

but i didnt email them, Norm did (and he got back to me after not checking his email for a while). but if one of your high profile contacts who supposedly works with you on a regular basis gets your email in spam or they just discard it, i'd question that whole relationship, honestly. but i'd long forgotten about it until this topic came up and i was sharing an experience. and i know where i stand, im a nobody to them, but God has it so that i dont have the email anymore and i forgot the names, because when i do become somebody He's gonna turn the situation around and maybe they'll be coming to me. (If self had his way and i knew who they were best believe i'd put them on notice about it, but God doesnt want it that way and he made it so it cant be.) so im just movin on.
To anybody that wants to attend this clinic that the post is about, go if you have it and willing to spend it and i truly hope you learn something. and maybe you can share here with us. i was just mentioning how that isnt feasible for many of the starting out musicians and they lose out.

Just chiming, in on how it could be. I had an issue with sending messages to yahoo accounts from my gospelbasslines.com domain... Yahoo automatically disregarded it as SPAM. People were contacting me through my site, but when I responded it was deleted by the server. Not saying it happened in this situation, but saying stranger things have happened.
I recieve over 100 emails a day, and I am not even big time... Far From it... So I can only imagine what named folks inboxes look like.
My point is perception may not always be reality. I have personally been accused of being a certain way, and when someone approached me about an issue, and we discusssed it, they saw a totally different perspective. I know there are ego's out there, I am not blind to that fact, but I believe there is atleast a few folks in NY, who will be willing to help with you cause, I would begin to pray that God put those folks in your path.

Some of the assumptions folks may have concerning certain professional bassists would have to re-evaluated after seeing, hear and hanging out with them during the 3 days.
Now, about the camp, will I share detailed information regarding lessons and such? Nope. Do I recommend this event for all bassists of every level? Absolutely!! The camp definitely lived up to it's name (BOOT CAMP), yet I don't think anyone went away feeling left out or discouraged, no matter the skill level. A WOW moment for me was on when I woke up the last morning; I had bass lines running through my head. WOW-We!!
So you can plan ahead to attend next year's camp, the dates are March 27-29, 2009 at the same location. So start saving your $$ now and reserve dates.

Steel ... I am only 2 hrs away, so I drove. One of the attendees did tell me that his bass was too big to carry-on. I believe he also said that because of this, he uses his hard case. I hope that helped.

Ladybass I am glad you had an opporutnity to go and gain the experience. I am going to try and time it next year to where I am up in that area. I am from NJ and have a brother and sister in PA so hopefully I can eliminate some of that extra cost I would normally have for travel.

T-MOST ... you described it perfectly ... "a great experience" ... now you know I didn't get much sleep ... after the Jam session, I walked down the hall and low (pun intended) and behold there were some campers & night owl instructors jammin ... so I joined in for a bit ... I think I got about 8 hrs of sleep between those 3 days ;D

Nope. :D Haven't been practicing much of anything. Havent really played the bass for months.
