Alright fam lets hear some stories about showing up to a gig with 1 or more of these items missing! :D Then tell us how you overcame the obstacle! :D
-
It`s never happened to me but I remember my first gig ever long time ago when some punks stole my sticks right before we came out to play. We called lt Colombo to investigate this... End of story... hah :D
-
I got the whole story on a blog on my myspace page....but in short. I forgot my snare stand for a gig in which I played a standard kit, and a set of congas. I tried to sit the snare in my lap and whatever, but it didn't work. I ended up taking off the rack toms, and replaced the floor tom, and the snare with the congas. I played the backbeats with a slap on the congas and the traditional latin accents on the congas as usual. I ended up with a hybrid kit, which I play all the time now. COngas, bass drum, hi hat, side snare, ride & crash. Most songs I play tamborine, while playing backbeats and accents on the congas, keeping time and giving splashes on the hi hat with my left foot. The pic is in the avatar. Check out my myspace page for the whole story.

I should be having a good laugh in this thread! Lol

Here is another one. Not something I forgot or anyone else, but same premise. I was the percussionist in the church at the time, and the drummer broke the bass drum pedal in the middle of the song. Now everyone is looking over at the musicians like whats wrong. I stopped what I was doing, picked up my mallets and took the floor tom and started beating it like a surdo. This was a disaster. It just was not the same. SO I stopped and we finished the song with no bass drum. After that we tried to rig the thing so we could at least make it to the end of service.
-
At one gig, I left my pedal. so I played the floor tom and I kicked the bass drum a couple of times. It sounded good!
-
You left out one thing. I once set up for a gig. I brought my entire kit and set it all up. Sat down to do soundcheck and...............
I had no sticks. I had left my stick bag at home, and I was the only drummer there so nobody had any extras. I had to drive all the way back home to get my sticks.
-
LOL! I left my sticks at home one night and I played with some wooden spoons from the kitchen of a semi formal restaraunt! :D

:D :D :D :D :D LOL!! yo I almost choked on my chocalate marble cake when I read this!!
I haven't had any hectic experiences yet but..
I once left my thrown and I had to use a bar stool and I was styll short back then

Man!
The most important thing anyone can leave is their sticks. You got all of your kit set up and you go to sond check it and you find that your bag is left in the driveway of your house.
Not that I've done that or anything. ;D

That means you had to "cook up" some grooves that night.

I had a similar experience. I was playing in a club on a borrowed set and the seat bracket of the drummer's throne was broken so I had to take the seat off of the bracket and set it on top of 2 cases of Bud Light and finish the gig.

LOL something similar happened to my boy except he had the bracket and not the seat. He got "violated" cause he forgot there was no seat when he went to go sit down! :D :D

That sounds painful.

Oh, right... Once I play without a drum throne - just took a chair from the bar and put some soft drum cases, shirts etc on it to "adjust height". After a couple minutes of playing it started to slide off... I was sliding slide to side playing the song... When the song had ended I was sitting in the piles of rags with elbows touching my knees. :D

Yall are too funny cause these stories sound too familiar! :D What do you do when you leave your rug at home and your gig is on a hard wood floor? ;D "Adventures of the Run-Away Bass Drum"...starring who? Who has played a leading role in this movie? :D

Yeah, I remeber one BD. She had gone off the stage, went to audience and than went out the door. I have never seen her since :'( If you read this... just know, I miss you so much...

This happens to me all the time...I don't have a rug, but a roll of stuff you usually put in your kitchen cabinets that really works against sliding (except on my bass drum). One time We were doing a show in this place, we were up 1st on a ticket with a few other bands. We were a duo, so my partner says he wants me down next to him, and not on the riser. It was ok for a while, but when we started this up tempo song, the drum was sliding away away away, and there was no break to pull it back. Dude was singing and playing his guitar, and having to stand in front of the drum to stop it from moving, and try to kick it back to me.

LOL!!! Yeah I've had the sax player stand in front of my BD before! :D If you have 2 shoe strings, you can tie them from the bass drum lugs to the legs on the thone...if you remembered to bring your throne! :D

I have borrowed the rug from the front door. They didn't really need it at the time.

Once I had this gig in Canada, I the Unthinkable happened. I left my sticks Back in Michigan. It got them minutes before I had to play due to the fact that my uncle was coming from Michigan. :D
