I've been commissioned to find some songs for our newly developing mens choir and well I honestly don't know where to start.
I need some song ideas for men that really can't sing all that well, but can hold a note. Nothing to overly complicated, so I was thinking quartet style songs where we can have 1 or 2 leads.
Please shoot me some song ideas. thanks
!Jeremy

To be honest, your men's chorus can sing any song that's out there that's geared towards mass choirs, groups, ect., you've just got to arrange the voices to fit the men's voices. If you still want material that's been recorded for men's chorus try a few of these artists (there's more but these are a good start):
* Lee Williams & The Spiritual QC's
* Keith "Wonderboy" Johnson & The Spiritual Voices
* The Williams Borthers
* The Jackson Southernaires
* The Mighty Clouds of Joy
* The Andrew Borthers
* The Bonner Brothers
* The Canton Spirituals
* GMWA Men's Chorus/ GMWA Men of Promise

You can add the 7 Sons of Soul

Wonderful / Sam Cooke Key Bb
I'm So Glad Trouble Don't Last Always / Sam Cooke Key Bb
Be With Me Jesus/ Sam Cooke Key C
-
Sam Cooke with the Soul Stirrers
Songs are all under 3 min. or less.
Easy chords, most songs are done in Bb or C.
Very easy to learn songs.

Kick off all the ones that cant sing. That should leave like 2 or 3. :)
Let me stop. :D I was over the brotherhood choir early this year. You need to train them to sing. We had a few off. Another thing you need to have the brothers in their right section. Sometimes the brothers could not hit certain notes so I let them sing what they could as long as it was in key.

I myself ran into a similar situation the other day, and this is what i did. I used the song (kneel at the cross). I taught the higher pitch voices(Ist Tenor) the alto line, regular soprano for the lead, baritone tenor and regular bass.
