Title: Beginners try this and see if it helps
Post by: chevonee on April 02, 2008, 08:16:39 PM
*This has been mentioned before but hopefully it will still help the new comers out a little*

Key of Db/C#

Tonic 1: Db
Db Eb F Ab
C F Ab
C Eb F Ab
Bb Eb Ab
B E A
F Bb B Eb
B Eb Gb Bb

F Gb Bb Db
G C Db F
A Db Eb Gb
G Bb Db F

Mediant 3: F
A Db Eb Ab
A D Gb
Db F Ab
Db Eb F Ab
C F Ab
C Eb F Ab
Ab Db Eb F
F Ab B Db
F Ab B D
Ab B Eb

Leading tone 7: C
Gb Bb Db
Bb Db F
Eb G Bb D F
Eb Ab C

These chords can be used to build various types of songs and progressions, for example if I want to play a 2-5-1 progression...I can just look under the 2 chord which is Eb...then the 5 which is Ab and the 1 which is Db. The names such as dominant, supertonic, etc doesnt matter as much as the number of the tone. So just focus on the numbers and not just whether its tonic, supertonic, or what have you.

In the song "Thank you Lord" in the key of Db...just use the following numbers and see if it works for you

1    Thank
7    you
3    (filler)
6    Lord

2    Thank
3    you
b5  (filler)
5    Lord

repeat top part

2    I
3    just
4    want
b5  to
5    thank you
1    Lord

Its important to know that you use different RH chords in different keys and It'll still fit into the scale

For Ex

You can be on the 3  (F) and Hit any inversion of Dmaj or even crazier Ebmaj but you got to use you EAR!

Um, this is too hard & confusing for me.  Plus I want to know what all of those terms mean...tonic, super, etc.  I know you said ignore the terms, but I can't.  I am too curious, but i know if I explore it, I will probably be more confused.  I must steer clear of this one for a while :), my beginner eyes can't take it...now my head hurts.

Let me see if I can help
Tonic= 1
Supertonic=2
Mediant=3
Subdominant=4
so on and so forth

1= the first degree of the scale
2=the second degree of the scale
and so on, and so forth

Sorry to confuse you that wasn't my intention...I hope it becomes clear to you, it took me a while too. Stay blessed
