Title: KEY SEQUENCES
Post by: neworgan on April 14, 2008, 02:37:58 PM
What's Happening LGM.  I know everybody learns chords by going up half steps (chromatic)  and/or the Circle of Fourths/Fifths.
I would just like to share these patters that I use to try to learn and internalize chords.  I call them Key Sequences and you can use them as patterns to learn progressions also in any key.  I've broken them up into 3 parts for practice purposes.

KEY SEQUENCES

Part I
1.  CHROMATIC (Ascending):  C  Db  D  Eb  E  F   Gb  G  Ab  A  Bb  B  C
2.  FOURTHS:   C  F  Bb  Eb  Ab  Db  Gb  B  E  A  D  G  C
3.  FIFTHS:   C  G  D  A  E  B  Gb  Db  Ab  Eb  Bb  F  C

Part II
1.  Whole Steps:  C  D  E  Gb  Ab  Bb  C \/ Db  Eb  F  G  A  B  Db
2.  DIMINISHED:   C  Eb  Gb  A  C \/ Db  E  G  Bb  Db \/  D  F  Ab  B  D
3.  CHROMATIC  (Descending):  C  B  Bb  A  Ab  G  Gb  F  E  Eb  D  Db  C

Part III
1.  C  Eb  Db  E  D  F  Eb  Gb  E  G  F  Ab  Gb  Ab  G  Bb  Ab  B  A  C  B

2.  C  B  Bb  A  B  Bb  Ab  B  A Bb  G  Ab  A  G   Bb  A  Gb   A  Ab  G  B  Gb  A  F  Gb  A  G  E  F  Gb  G  Eb  E  F  A  Eb  E  F  D  Eb  E  Db
    D  Eb  C  Db  D  B  C  Db  Bb  B

3.  C  Db  D  Eb  Db  D  E  Db  Eb  D   F  E  Eb  F  D  Eb  Gb  Eb  E  F  Db  Gb  Eb  G  Gb  F  Ab  G  Gb  A  Ab  G  Bb  A  Ab  B  Bb  A  C
    B  Bb  Db  C  B  D  Db

Here's how I  practice them:

Chromatic:  I use the Hanon Octave Technique,   its basically going up one and coming all the way down.  The further you go up the more
you have to go down therefore reinforcing everything as you go.  i.e.  C  to Db  back down to C.  C  to Db  to D  back down
