I haven't been posting anything lately because going through something; however, I am going to post this
this is a passing move to go to the 2 in the key of Ab
while holding the sustain pedel you try this
FCF/EbGAbC
/DbFGbBb
/AbCDbF
then release the sustanin pedel and play this chord after
BbFC/C#FAbC
the sound is distonic in the beginning but it is a sweet move

wow..thanks alot for this jjjoe...now my 6 to the 2 will not be routine & dull..
Please post more of this stuff..I love it 8)

Thanks jjjoe!! I am always looking for passing chords to help make my playing more complete. God bless you!!
-
Having played this, I think it's ultra hot..It was one of the missing elements in my playing.
I'd be very delighted to have more of these.
I know things are not going well for you Joe, so I'm really grateful for you taking this time to post these.
You're still in my prayers sir. :)

Take that BbFC/C#FAbC and try two things
1 pj morgan suggest in his dvd for a practice routine to play whole steps, So I would take this chords and play it in whole steps it produces sweet movements
2 here is a progression
BbFC/C#FAbC
DbAb/CEbFAb
EbBbF/EbGBbEb
another move is this while holding the sustain pedel you try this
FCF/EbGAbC
/DbFGbBb
/AbCDbF
then
BbFC/C#FAbC
DbAb/CEbFAb
FCF/AbDbFAb or EbBb/FGBbEb

Ha!!!
Now you remind me of that "Taking It Out-Part I" thread 8) 8)
I can tell that this stuff will be ultra cool..
I'll give feedback once I've tried it out.
Thanks a zillion Jjjoe..
Keep up the great work..

Hmmm, let me try to wrap my brain around this and get back with you. My main problem is understanding how to use this in other keys. I want to make sure that every progression I learn can be transfered to any key. Thanks for taking time to share this with us, and if I'm asking a silly question please just pray for a sistah...LOL ;) ;) ;) ;D

I got a question, where did u get this from? The 1st and last chords sound good together, but them inner chords don't really make sense. So, it's really not a "sweet" move to me cuz it doesn't flow. Maybe I'm playing wrong, but could u explain it further.
Also, do u keep the sustain pedal down for all 3 of the 1st set of chords, then release and play the last one?

This is how I do it Vonne:
Once I've established the key the progression is in, I look at all the chords in the progression in relation to that key--in this case being the key of Ab.
This requires that you can quickly identify all the notes & their numbers in any scale..but this can be attained with practice as you play & think of each note you play as a number.
Ab major scale: Ab/ G#=1; A=#1 or b2; Bb/A#=2; etc, you can complete it ;D
So lemme illustrate with the 1st 3 chords:
2 here is a progression
BbFC/C#FAbC [2-6-3/4-6-1-3]
DbAb/CEbFAb [4-1/ 3-5-6-1]
EbBbF/EbGBbEb [5-2-6/5-7-2-5]
Now you are ready to play that in any key at a snap.. :)
The fingering might be weird in other keys at 1st, but if you patiently hold out, you will be rewarded at the end :)
Best wishes my diligent friend.

With the first three chords you are holding the sustain pedel down like this
hold the sustain pedel first
next play the FCF/EbGAbC
while still holding the sound play this chord (DbFGbBb)
then this chord while holding the sustain pedel (AbCDbF)
then release the sustain pedel then play this chord BbFC/C#FAbC
it is a way to get to the 2 in the key of Ab

just like Mussallio says it is a progression you can play.

3 here is a progression
BbFC/C#FAbC
DbAb/CEbFAb
EbBbF/EbGBbEb
here is a progression
BbFC/C#FAbC
DbAb/CEbFAb
EbBbF/EbGBbEb
let me disect what i mean't
in the first example pj morgan was talking about in his Gospel Piano class he was talking about for a good practice routine is play minor 11ths whole steps now if you play the minor 11th slow going whole steps it gives it a nice sound as well as to be able to remember your minor 11th
in the second example here is a progression
BbFC/C#FAbC
DbAb/CEbFAb
EbBbF/EbGBbEb
see the progression is going as a 2-4-5 progression. here is a little simple way to play this
BbFC/C#FAbC
DbAb/CEbFAb
EbBb/FGBbEb
see the progression is going as a 2-4-5 like in the song from Vanshawn Mitchell: Over and Over
now in the third example FCF/EbGAbC
/DbFGbBb
/AbCDbF
then
BbFC/C#FAbC
DbAb/CEbFAb
FCF/AbDbFAb or EbBb/FGBbEb
the progession is a 6-2-4-6 or 6-2-4-5
see the FCF/EbGAbC
/DbFGbBb
/AbCDbF
you first hold the sustain pedel and play these chords which is a 6 chord but you are stacking chords with the six
then let go of the sustain pedel and play
BbFC/C#FAbC
DbAb/CEbFAb
FCF/AbDbFAb
or this set
BbFC/C#FAbC
DbAb/CEbFAb
EbBb/FGBbEb ( which is a substitute for EbBbF/EbGBbEb chord)
hope this helps

You're right. This does sound like VaShawn Mitchell's song. Kim was FYA on that.
