Let's Say that you are in a service and you are playing a song and they ask you to go up to another key. Now you have never played the song in another key, so what are some good tips to transpose a song on the spot. I thought on some instances if you just remeber what chords you were playing in the orignal key just think of the next chord up when you get to that part of the song. If you were playing the chords c, d, e when you go up and you get to the c chord part of the song think C#,e, f. I know this is a bad and maybe a difficult way to transpose but what are you all's positon on transposing particulary on the spot.

I am prepared to transpose on the spot cause of the fact I am pretty familiar with all my keys.....If u just practice certain keys and when u playing in the service and all of a sudden u have to play a key that u don't even bother tryin to practice.....then u definitely be messed up...so to avoid all of that confusion learn and be familiar with all your keys....now for me I can play a song that is modulated in several keys and play it actually the same way but I try to change my chording in different keys...in other words...I will play C normally and when modulate to C# I may change my way of playing the song (only because I am a C# person :D )
By the way, Welcome to LGM!! :D :D

ddw4e is correct the best and easiest way is to be familiar with the songs you know in all keys. and you can usually hear diff chord structures in dif keys. don't get stuck in one key because you limit the possibilities of the music and the move of the Holy Spirit if the song breaks down because you cann't keep up so the real answer is to practice practice practice study to show thyself approved in all things pertaining to the Holy Spirit
lastly if you cann't play a song in a particular key the worst thing you can do is to fummble through it the best thing is to know your limits and allow the spirit to continue to move and let the voices bless God. But be ready the next time and don't be caught lacking.
Be Blessed!!
