Ok listen, no rumor, T-block HIMSELF told me this:

One time he left his favorite accordian at church, then when he showed up, one kid had it by one end, and the other kid had it by the other end.....and they strrrrreeeetched it all the way OUT!

T-block couldn't believe his eyes!! But the worst part is (accordian to him), when them kids stretched it, the accordian "transposed" itself down to a quadruple low G#, or either an Hb!! (I kid you not!) (http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/13.gif)

But since T-block went to college and everything, he was able to somehow scientifically through logical Theory, temporarily repair it for church service that day! What a guy! 8)

amen

CO-SIGN!!!  ;D  By the way, if a kid actually did do that to my accordion, I would proceed to wrap said stretched-out accordion around the kid's neck, LOL.

I leave mine there, but it seems that the only thing that happens when Im not there is

1.) The kids punch in the stage monitors

2.) The prayer team leaves annointing oil sitting on your board. Which is very rude IMO.
-OK, I get you wanna pray that my board multiplies and gets doubled blessed into a Fantom G8, lol. But who has to wipe that off when you're done. And hello, oil doesnt belong on boards! That really burns me up.

I dont and wouldnt do it. If did I would leave it in the Pastors office or somewhere safe. Kids will mess with and abuse your stuff. Somebody even stole one of the sliders from my churches motif.

I left my rig at church and someone(probably the kids) maxed all the knobs on the amp.  When I turned the thing on and hit the keys all the hair on the side of my head stood up.  (I don't have any on top)   Good thing we were not in session.  I still leave it there sometimes, but I always check the amp before I play. A good idea I guess in any case.

When I got my keyboard two years ago my dad said, "This does not leave your room ever."  And I said, "kewl".  :)

He said this because the last keyboard we had broke because my sister and I (from the time I was 5 til about 12 maybe younger...idk) toted the keyboard around the house and played were ever.  Eventually it broke because of that.  Also, we were going to move to a new church (i.e: the one we're at now) and there was no way we would tote a full sized Yamaha around to the city and back every Saturday and Sunday.

Also when you leave your instrument out in the open at church most people don't know it's yours.  The figure it's the church's and it's open to the public.  So to avoid grief either tote it, lock it up some place safe, or urge your church to buy a board/guitar/whatever for the church so that the instrumentalist don't have to tote their instruments around or if something happens to their instrument it won't keep them from playing at church.

or if something happens to their instrument it won't keep them from playing at church.

NVM.  That was dumb.  If something happens to their instrument they can't practice so it wouldn't matter if the church had one or not unless the church lets the instrumentalist borrow their instrument.

If you going to leave your board at church, do what I do...take the cables and power cord and at least they can't temper with any of the settings.

We specifically mention it in church that absolutely NO ONE who is NOT in the music ministry should touch the instruments. Even choir members know better than to touch my precious Motif.

When I first started playing keys, I had to carry the K2000VP back and forth, it was my only keyboard. Since I now have additional keyboards at home and for gigs, I have been able to leave the instrument (also frees my wife and I up to go in her Miate if we are without the daughter and granddaughter that weekend).

I leave one complete setup at church (although it is well known that the instruments belong to me). Kurzweil K2000VP and PC2, Also a Tapco mixer, Trace amp, and Fender speaker cabinet, all set up.  I remove power from all of the instruments (have a couple of UPS, and both turn them off and unplug all the power leads.  I also have covers over them (the strchy kind).  I've not had any problem with others, the only thing that has been moved is the bench seat.  I also leave hard cases for both instruments, and a smaller case for all the accessories; for the occasional times that I have to move the whole setup out of the way and store it for special events.  I do have all the settings on the amp and mixing board recorded.

Covering the instruments would not deter someone who was determined; but it is very useful in pointing out to most people - leave this alone!

Our pastor and music director both have made the point that instruments (indluding the church instruments) are not to be touched by those not trained. This includes sound equipment.  When our kids meet, it is normally in the fellowship area, not in the sanctuary.

When I played bass, I left the amp and cabinet at the church, and carried the bass with me. When I was using a laptop computer with soft synths, I carried that with me, and left the docking station there.

If we are playing out somewhere else, I normally carry my portable gig setup, which is a K2661 keyboard with varioius combinations of powered PA cabinets, depending on the size of the area to be covered, and whether or not I am also providing PA for the praise team.

The big keyboards (88key weighted) usually stay at home or in my shop/studio.

I'll be 67 in a couple of weeks - I got tired of being my own roadie, especially in bad weather.

Jim.

I don't leave my board at church..
Reasons:

1) I need to use it every now & again.
2) People wuld mess up with it & i'd proly find it with a broken key the next time I see it :-\ ::)

I don't like any1 not in the music team touching mine & the church's equipment because people can mix up things..
I know that when my stand was new, the 1st day I took it to church, it came back without one of the rubbers. >:( I've also been left stranded at home without my cables/ cords,& had my sustain pedal stolen, so now I make sure I pack everything..especially since there have been instances in the past where all the cords belonging to the church went missing 1 by 1 until we were left with a countable few!!

13...you're so right, I don't quite travel with chords, but I know how to find em.  I was recently attending the visitation and funeral service for the relative of a friend.  This particular church has musicians on staff, but they were not scheduled to arrive until the actual homegoing service started.  The family asked me to play during the visitation, but the power chord was missing fromt the Motif X7.  Being a motif owner, I know that except for Kurzweil, the major keyboards use the standard power chord for typewriters, computers etc.....so i went to their utility area, and robbed one to play in the service.  When the staff musicians arrived, of course we exhanged pleasantries, and of course when I tried to yield my seat at the board he gave the old typical "..NAW STAY DOC, YOU GOT IT, YOU GOT IT".......I did however explain to him, what  I did, and let him know that I was not trying to bogart his gear, and was just honoring the request of the family.  He did not mind, or make a fuss as it was a musician that I knew.

Absolutely not. I forgot who said it but yes some people think the instruments are open to the public and after the service they can just do whatever. I've seen drum heads busted and keys busted and all that mess. I don't play that. The minute that service ends, I put my baby back in the bag and put the church's board (which isn't worth nothing) back on the stand.

Yeah we also lend our church to another church. They used to bring their own equipment, then they stopped once they saw we had a Fantom X6 and the MO8. They are a Spanish church and they play really uptempo latin music...i am worried for the boards.

Cool..I'd go to some services to accustom my ear to the music 8)

Uptempo muisc doesn't necessarily mean bashing on the keys.but yeah, most uptempo music makes players want to imitate the rhythm with their hands :D but 1 can train themselves not to bash unreasonably on the board..One of our boards has been bashed for over 10 years..it's still going after a few servicings..
But better to not just lend out boards--some people are just careless..

If you got a motif (which is a popular board if you didnt know) and your slider is missing; the only place to get another slider immediately is, another motif. Problem solved.

True, true. ;D :D

But it takes a lot to pull off those sliders. They don't come loose easily. The person must have had time alone when the church was empty.  :-\
