Title: Rack Tuners
Post by: MikeGee on August 02, 2008, 07:03:59 AM
I was wonder if you could share which rack tuners are being used by us bass players.

I just put together a real rack and I want to put a tuner in it.

I use The Fender RT1000 Rack Tuner inexpensive and reliable, if you look at my avatar you will see it sitting at the top of my rack. They run about $129.00 on ZZounds and even cheaper on ebay or Craiglist.

I used to have a Korg DTR-2000.  Great unit.  I got tired of hauling a rack around though, so I sold it.

I've never used a rack tuner. I like portability and have always used  a small handheld Korg unit.

I used both a rack and handheld. I have the korg dtr-1000 and a casio handheld tuner.

I've also been thinking about getting one, but haven't yet decided if i would be into hauling around all this equipment.  The DTR2000 looks pretty nice, they had it set up so I played with it for a little; for now I'm using a handheld Boss and its doing the job just fine.

I too use a handheld which works just fine. The guy at the GC told me the racks work fine too but he said they were basically eye candy.

It's a tuner that's mounted in a rack.  Some players that already have their gear (i.e. head, power conditioner, FX unit) mounted in a rack prefer to have a tuner in their rack also instead of a pedal tuner or some other type.

For example, this was my old rack:

Top to bottom: Furman M-8 Power Conditioner (a glorified power strip in rack form), Korg DTR-2000 tuner, GK 1001RB-II head.

The short patch cable you see goes from the tuner out on the GK to the input on the tuner.  On that model, there are also inputs on the back, which is handle for heads that have the tuner out in the rear.  So basically you just plug up and tune up right away.

yea i do agree it is just eye candy. that's why I am considering of going as cheap as possible and getting the Behringer model since it is only $60.

I use a Korg DTR-1 which is the predecessor of the DTR-2000. I also had a DTR-2, but traded it a while back. I'd recommend any Korg rackmount. They can be had for $80 - $100 used.

I just thought about this post and was going to offer you my DTR-1000 tuner because I've been thinking about replacing that space with a compressor. I have a handheld that works just fine. Well anyway, anyone interested in a rack tuner?
