I played alot before I was made the main musician. I have played once between now and April. But when I first got the guts to get up there and do it, it was because this chick from this other church was at my church for a minute, and I saw that she was accepted. There is her, and one girl that plays drums around here. That's all that I know personally.

GIRL DRUMMER RIGHT HERE! I play the drums at my church also. I love it! Girl drummers are definently just as good as the guys. Its fun seeing the looks on their faces when a girl plays 10 times better than them (haha).
There are alot of girls that are starting to play the drums. Anyone know of the band SKILLET? Their drummer is a girl and she's awesome...

Yo, I think my daughter which is 1yr. and 8 months is going to be a drummergirl. Everytime I practice or sit down to watch a drum video she's there watching and moving her hands as if she was playing. She always waits till I put the sticks down to grab them and play and stomp on my pedal. I find it funny that she is so young and so in tune to what I do.
Even in church she'll always watch me playing or whoever is playing the drums that day. :D
-
I think your little girl will be a drummer. I think musicianship can be a genetic trait. I used to think that this was nonsense until I thought about this. My dad was a drummer and my maternal grandfather was a percussionist. Neither of them taught me how to play. Neither pressured me to learn. I know other self-taught second generation musicians whose parents didn't teach them a thing! Just think... when she's about 4 she'll be saying "daddy, let's shed"
-
Man that'll be awesome. She's already in a Praise & Worship mentality. Everytime I put a Fred Hammond DVD or CD or a Israel CD or DVD she'll raise her hands to the sky and praise and dance. Then she'll hear the drummer do a solo or a fill and she'll drum in the air as if it was her playing. Trust me, the first time I saw this I almost flipped out of the house in amazement. Being a Dad is cool. Specially when your child has the same interest as you. Praise GOD.

Check out Jhenese "Drummergirl" Hester at : http://www.vater.com/
She plays for Rizen and now lives in Nashville, Tennessee. Boy is she agressive on the kit! 8O 8)
-
That's great that she's getting the word in her spirit at a young age. I'm happy for you. Not that I'm rushing... but I hope one day to have an experience like that when I have kids.
Confession: It wouls be a dream come true for me to have a set of quintuplets. 5-piece band :!: Just think if I had 5 daughters though

Hi my daughter is a drummer and she is 8 years old. She been playing ever since she was 5. She is pretty good. I think if she keeps going she will be one of the hots musicians out there because she sings well too and she is started to learn songs on the key board. But she is getting discouraged because she don't see a lot of girl drummers. Sometimes she say girls don't play the drums, drums are for boys. I try to tell her that the are girl drummer out there.
If there are some girl drummers out there can you send picture of you playing or a video and some words of encourgment. I think if she sees it she will become excited again about the drums.
Be blessed in Jesus name!

My nephew just turned three and he tries to imitate everything that I do on my set. I brought him a drumset a few weeks ago on his birthday but he refuses to play it because he thinks that it is too small. It is amazing how the little ones pick up nowadays. Every generation of drummers get better and better, just imagine what the next generation of drummers will be doing.

Hi my daughter is a drummer and she is 8 years old. She been playing ever since she was 5. She is pretty good. I think if she keeps going she will be one of the hots musicians out there when she gets older. Because she sings well and she is starting to learn songs on the keyboard. She plays for my group RIGHT KNOW!
But she is getting discouraged because she has only saw one female drummer play, and she is already on that sisters level. The sister is a older sister. Sometimes she say girls don't play the drums, drums are for boys. I try to tell her that there are girl drummer out there. There are no girl drummers at our church and the guy drummers are off the hook. There only a couple of female drummers in Boston Ma. One of the lady drummers, my daughter is already on her level. The other I have only heard of but never saw and don't know how to get in contact with her. I heard that she is off the hook.
If there are female drummers out there that play the drums really good can you please send a picture of you playing or a video or some words of encourgment. You can send it to me private or though the message board I think if she sees a female drummer she will become excited again about the drums.
Thanks and
Be blessed in Jesus name

U know, I don't think anyone should look at a drummer for their gender but their heart and willingness to be the best "they can be." That being said, if ya'll haven't checked out Kim Thompson, she's pretty sick. She's got some serious pocket. I caught her at the 55 bar with Ricahrd Bona and Mike Stern. Camile Garner stopped in to check out the show too. That's another sick cat. Woman can play, and they can play for real and I don't doubt a woman's character, strength or ability. Heck man, its about music and love of God and life. No need to compare men and woman or compare ourselves to each other. In the end all we doing is finding our voice that God gave us. Some just say it better than others.
-
Cora Coleman is cold, she was nice back when she was at Kashmere High School (excellent music program since the days of Prof. Conrad Johnson!!! my mom came through the program under "Prof"). Cora and some other drummers/musicians were tryin' to get me to go there and join the band. I chose another school, but I learned a lot about technique and musicianship from her way back in the day.
-
If it wasn't for a girl drummer my talent wouldn't exist. My aunt taught me how to play and to me she is one of the best drummers I've ever heard and if you heard her you would think so too.
-
Hi, I'm a female drummer. I've been playing at my church New Mt. Calvary M.B.C. for about 8 years now. I also play at a church called Greater Faith B.C. for the past 3 years. I'll probably play till I'm 85 years old! That will be something to see!
-
According to another thread, it has been seen LOL!!!!

Hello to all my female drummer's,
My name is Jhenese Hester and I play for RiZen. I've been playing for 14 years. I started playing in church when I was 10 years of age. My advice to you ladies will be to practice, practice and practice. Reason being female drummer's are now becoming more popular we need to be at our best. I have been blessed to accomplish some of dreams. Meaning traveling on the road having endorsements and all that stemed from me sitting down at my drumkit learning the fundmentals. I'm endorse with Vater Sticks, Sabian Cymbals and I'm gettting ready to sign a drumkit deal. I have a DVD coming out next year to help female's from a woman perpective. I'll keep you'll posted.
Be Blessed,
Jhenese
p.s. it really blessed my heart to see how many female drummer are out there.
-
I have been playing the drums since I was three but I kinda gave up to years ago to pursue the keyboard. but every now and then I have to work it out on the drums.

Yo, I know of a couple of female drummers one in VA and a couple in Philly, and they are the right answer. Just like everybody said there is not any gender discriminatoin in drumming, and when you see other drummers praising the Lord for their gift and using their gift for the glorification of God it just makes you give god a praise REal FAst!
-
there is a woman in Florida, named Janice English. hands down the baddest in the land. lol of course i'm kinda biased though. i don't know many female drummers, except 4 shot out 2 my girl Sistadrummer, doing here thing in the U.K. :D
-
hey i am a drummer from Queens who have been playing for about 7 years in my church when tha guy don't want 2 come 2 church. But 1 thing about being a female drummer when tha guys see u doing a good thing they want 2 player hate on a sista. and in someways they did make feel very bad a caused me 2 stop playing but little do they know tha girl is back and ready to play for tha lord. My husband is really showing me not to let anyone make feel least than what i am and the best thing abotu that is he is a drummer
-
Amen! that is a blessing. never let any1 discourage u 4rm the call & gift God has given u. when we learn that God has blessed and equipped each one of us individually, we'll (drummers) be alright and would have no need 2 be jealous of another. we must also remember drumming doesn't happen over night. it takes countless hours of practice and determination. so lets remember the next time we see our favorite drummers, they didn't just wake up one day and start playing like a pro, however if we keep on practicing b4 long our names will be mentioned amongst the gospel elite. be blessed.

I am a female drummer also! I have played on and off for about 5 years. (more off than on) I get discouraged because where I am from, drummers come a dime a dozen. Almost all are guys and they hog the drums. Many of them are in so much competition with trying to shine evey minute that they can, they forget about ministry being the purpose. I play for the glory of GOD, not to compete or earn bragging rights. I really try to just stay humble, but I get kicked to the curb so much until I just play at home. I am asked to play every now and then at church, when the drummer is out of town and his backup (who just popped up out of no where and disappears often) can't be found OR when the drummer has to sing. I am going to keep practicing at home and strengthing my ability and hopefully one day, there will be room for me to play.

I Cor. 7:7
For I would that all men were even as I myself. But every man hath his proper gift of God, one after this manner, and another after that.
Prov. 18:16
A man's gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men.
