Title: Just An Idea
Post by: cordney on August 20, 2008, 09:25:39 AM
I was wondering if you guys would like to break down songs together.  I was thinking this idea could be beneficial to some if not all.  We could do old songs/new songs...any songs!  Let me know what you think.

I don't know if I have time to do what I think you are asking, but I would post my notes of different songs.  It may be a great place to start on some...

This sounds like a good idea, and it would be helpfull to me to get notes and force myself to work on my ear.  Right now it takes me a really really long time time to learn some more complex songs by ear.

Any lil thing would help...I was thinking we could do a song every week or two weeks.  How each individual approached the song!  I would like more participation or for more people to show interest in this idea.  If we can get the approval of the mods to make this a sticky or can we run with it here.

Sounds like a great idea! And I hope not to see someone using this as an opportunity to request as many bass tabs as they can.

You can suggest the first song and we can go from there?

Sounds like a great idea! And I hope not to see someone using this as an opportunity to request as many bass tabs as they can.

If they want to make request then they should still go to the BassTab Request.

Depends on how people format their contributions.

Are we expecting text (example: "the song starts on the root, but you can play an arpeggio by adding the 3 and the 5....)?

Or are we expecting some form of charting (example: "I play 1-3-5 then 1-6-2.....)?

Or are we expecting video with a verbal description of what we are doing?

Or are expecting some combinations of all the above?

Writing out a tab would take MUCH longer than any of the above, so even if somebody asked for tab, they'd probably get "re-directed" in a hurry.

Agreed.

ok...here is a song a lot of folk are doing...Chris Jones: Dance.

Here are my notes
(http://www.esnips.com/nsdoc/260f7b39-13c1-405c-8444-672c050ce815)

Ok just to explain some crazy stuff... I use musical symbols and grammatical symbols in my tabs.
So if you see a S---> that means slide into a note or a chord.
Exclamations are like staccatos.
If you see ties between notes, that means they flow together (slurs and/or syncopated notes)
Other than that if it's a straight bass run, I don't tab those.  They're far too straightforward.

Please excuse any mistakes on tabs.  I add flats (for some reason) all the time...lols...

Here's my (meager) interpretation of the song...

I think a combination of all...me personally, I haven't mastered the progression charts so I write out notes.
