When you sit down and practice (for people that do not have a routine), what exactly do you do>? Do you go over new stuff or review stuff you are familiar with?
-
Review, then practice.

usually one or the other. Last night was all practice

All my practice sessions are different. But mainly, it's review old stuff (scales, progressions, songs, etc.) then practice something new. Often times as I'm practicing something new, I get side-tracked wit something old and I start doing that instead of what I need to do. Bad habit!!!

For me I warm up with some light excerises and then review. Instead of adding new rep however, I prefer to take the same things that I have been playing and apply new tactics to help become more creative and re-inforce as well as enhance what I already know. It's great because I always end up messing up something that turns out to be really nice.
