No one noticed that's the Doobie Brothers?

She's got some talent, though. Good stuff.

She probably spends more time practicing playing like that, than wishing she could play like videos she sees on Youtube.com, etc.

Well, obviously it's an improv, but the intro and then the backing track was "listen to the music."

It may meander later on, but it holds on through the first chorus at least. I listened to it twice to be sure.

I was going to point out that that the ubiquitous Doobie Brothers rhythm has some very useful applications in church, too.

i'm not familiar with the doobie bros at all....that's what i was asking...

reason i was curious is because i'm never impressed with someone who's just playing someone else's stuff....so if she was just doing that it wasn't impressive to me at all...

that being said....she's obviously got some stuff....nice and laid back...

Ah, gotcha.

It's definitely a good version. None of that lead stuff is in there originally.

I won't post it, but it's all over youtube, if you want to compare.

The only lick from the Doobies song that she cops is the opening chord strum.
All else is improvised.
She's wonderful. Smooth, clean, emotional, versatile, funky...really good stuff for what it is.

she could had, herself composed (pre-improvised) that clip there... ?/?

if all that was straight improvising, she's pretty good then...better than me at least :)

Good point Jay, but to think about it...any music could have application in church. Music is a gift from God to praise and to give glory to Him.

i agree....just wanted to be sure i was hearing "her" playing....and not her just copping someone else's stuff.

Looked and sounded to me like she was just pouring out her improv bag in a very tasteful way.
I dig the way she kept moving her target between diatonic major, dominant/mixolydian and minor.
Really, really good stuff.

yeah i agree....i don't think i've been clear. when jay first mentioned the doobie bros, i thought he was saying she was playing a doobie bros song note for note. that's why i was saying it wasn't as if that was the case. it's like the 12 year old kid on youtube that tries to play andy mckee....it's amazing that he can even come close given his age....but it's not HIM playing...he's just sat for hours and learned to imitate. i know we all imitate to a degree, but there is a point where we truly play from within and it's no longer about imitating what we've been influenced by.

i was never trashing the girl in the video....from an ability standpoint it's obvious she has the stuff. knowing now that she's just jamming over a track, it's even more impressive. i just never enjoy hearing someone just play "guitar karaoke" of someone else's music.

i definitely enjoyed how she flowed in between the blues/pentatonic stuff and the major blues/mixolydian flavored runs. definitely colored the chords she was playing over in nice way.

hope that clears up where i was coming from, lol

Understood, J.

I guess I wasn't clear either. I meant that the track was that Doobies song, but, yes, after the intro it was all on her.

Sorry about that.

Think>type... I get those backwards sometimes lol.

Hey,i might be wrong.I still do not think she is playing this.Watch her strumming hand.

To me, her right hand just looks to be super-efficient. Ever watch Stevie Ray play? It just looks like his hand is moving in circles the whole time.

That's really how it should be. If your hand's already moving in a direction, why change directions to hit a note--it slows you down.

She's got a lot of videos up, and I would say she's real.

It's totally possible to play like that and make the sounds she's making.  All the guitarist (except me) are able to do it.  I think they're just using their left hand to mute individual strings.

For all of those who want to try your hand at that song here's a backing track for you to work with.  It's not the same one from the video but it's the same song:
