I dont need an apreciation service. I know I'm apreciated by the compliments from the members(and the paycheck). We shouldnt be doing this to glorify ourselves, but to glorify God. Not that have anything against being recognized, as long as that isnt your sole motive and it doesent go to your head.

Co-sign.  I too, feel underappreciated at times for a lot of stuff I do even outside of the music ministry... but then I have to stop and think about my real motives and why I feel the way I feel.  We're not serving to please people, and we are not looking to be rewarded by people.  Everything we do is to be done as unto the Lord... and he will reward us in the end if we don't faint.

I don't.  The pastor tells us every so often that he appreciates us and members of the congregation do the same.  I don't think they're doing it because the when pastor does it it's not in front of everybody.  That leads me to believe that they're genuine.  We're not the best band and choir ever.  However, we're coming along and it's nice to hear compliments about how we're coming along.

The musician is not on par with the pastor.

So then, perhaps, you should mention that to those in charge. :-\

Maybe they feel it's not really necessary to have a musician's appreciation?

....I know I'd nix it, if the musician's started thinking they were on par with me--if I were a pastor.

If it's bothering you though, you should talk to the pastor. Maybe they're not having one because no one has thought about it.

Whats all this about being on par with the Pastor? Thank God for all the humble Pastors.

Pertaining to the responsibility of both offices. If you can find, in the Bible, where it says the musician will be held accountable to God for the souls of the people, then we can discuss it.

Until then.........check 1 Timothy 3.

I understand, I just think that sometimes many of us take things too far. But thats just my opinion.

Well some of us. Not everybody.

What got me was your use of the term "on par", which to me, means that Someone is better than someone else. I beleive that a Pastor is no better than you and me. Sure they are "Men of God", and are held to a higher standard, but does that make them better than those who they serve?

They have more responsibility, within the church, than anyone else. Period.

I'm with Sjon on this one. "Par" means nothing more than "standard". You can substitute those two words. Musicians aren't held to the same "standard" as Pastors, so to assume that they get the same treatment (respect) is off-base, IMO. I'm not saying that a Pastor is "better" than a musician in no way.

You know, the church is a physical representation of heaven. The Pastor is a physical representation of God, as the head of the physical church--Don't misconstrue this as saying they are to be treated as a god, though.

The musician, as ominous as it sounds, is similar to the position that Lucifer had. When I look at it that way, that serves as a warning to me of how precarious of a position I'm in, and how strong we, as musicians, need to be spiritually to fight pride.

LOL!

Thankfully, I've been able to keep my pride in check, but I've been known to sow discord before. God doesn't like that either. It's just that when you get frustrated with how things are ran, you want to speak out (get comfort). The best thing to do when you're in that position is talk to the Pastor, in order to protect your OWN self.

I'll be sure to keep that in mind. Good advice.

I'm receiving a musician's appreciation service for the 1st time this year in October.  However, as long as I know what I'm doing is pleasing to God, I'm cool.

If we have musician's appreciation at my church instead of having a service dedicated to it I think I'll just throw a party at my house and have some good old fashioned grilling and fellowship time!  :)
