They are probably east coast. we always leave the hi hat open.

I dont think its an east coast thing.  I think its an "Im un-aware how annoying I sound right now" type of thing.  Its also a cheap way and a sloppy attempt to sound big during the high part of a song.  If you play the right notes in the right manner, then you wont have to bang on open hi hats like a maniac.  If youre gonna do that, then it should be done in a hard and solid groove.

yeah. or he could of went to the ride cymbal...maybe a little bell work or somethin... but who am i? hahaha clip was hot tho
