Title: Digitech RP50
Post by: funkStrat_97 on September 23, 2008, 09:39:21 AM
What are the amp/cab sims like on this unit?  I wont be using the effects (I'll run my pedals through it), but since we go direct at church, I was just looking for a decent amp simulator.

I had an RP100, and I didn't care for the sims. The effects were ok, but I wasn't impressed with anything else.

I'm not sure if they've updated them since then, though. I had mine about 3 years ago, maybe 4.

Musicians Fried has a 45 day return policy lol. Utilize it.  ;D

I've tried one in the store and one of my students has one.
Unimpressive, imho. It's more of an effects unit than an amp/cabinet sim.
If it were my money, I'd get at least the RP80 for just a few bucks more or, better yet, look at a Sans Amp or Hughes & Kettner Red Box.

I guess the little RP is probably a decent headphone amp (it'seven got a drum machine built in).  I think the Tech21 Character Series pedals (http://www.tech21nyc.com/reviews/images/CS_GP508.pdf) would be a much better option.

The littlest RP does not have a headphone output.
The 80 does.

Those are actually really cool little stompers. However, I would worry that it's going to be kind of a one-trick pony--which wouldn't affect me lol, but some people want that silly thing called "versatility."

Me, not so much  ;) That's what my volume knob's for lol.
