Forget about the who's plays better than who, who's the coldest out of doo wa diddy, and that cat is bannas.
I want to ask all the musicians especially COGIC organist if we are still saved in today's world cause I have seen somethings in the past few years that dont resemble Godliness nor the teachings or beliefs of this organization. I know there are those of you out there so if you could for one second put down the lid and ask yourself are you really saved or are you fooling yourself.
All this talk about who's cold and who's the newest kid on the block don't mean diddle squat when JESUS comes back. I've told myself I will be the one to standout if no one will. Moderators excuse me if this even offends some of you because you may not be all you should be as well but one thing i want to say as that God has blessed me in the area of music but I do not credit any of it to anything that I know because with out God we are nothing.
So many musicians think they are God's gift to the church. I speak for myself as an example I am professional trained an do not receive a dime neither would I be willing to accept as a token for service. Dont get me wrong this in not a sin but too many musicians are extorting the gift and not the giver.
I would ask those of you who are willing to analyze yourself, starting even with me. How can I better become a better person and what is my purpose for the kingdom of God. our main mission is salvation and to convert others to know about this gift of life. To many people have fallen by the wayside looking at how well we are gifted and boi you sure can play when they are strugglin every day just to make it through life.
It's time for the church (WORLD), more than just COGIC to become more serious and realize that what the have been given is precious and I feel, I take that back I see it slipping. And if were are not careful I will be lost.
So I'm going to start this shout off.
I thank GOD FOR SAVING ME!!!!!!!

I'm right there with ya brutha! I go to a church that has an awesome musician there. We both play piano and organ but we share the responsibility equally. It's never been about who can play or sing the best. In fact, no one in our church is like that. We love what we do and know it's for HIS glory, not ours. I never want to lose sight of that. It says in Matthew 8 "For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?" You can have all the fame and money in this world but what good is any of it without Jesus...
Amen! ;D

If only we would realize how "powerful" we are in the body of Christ. We would lay before the Lord daily in prayer asking "what wilt thou have me to do for you today?".... 35 years an counting serving the "Lord" in music ministry.

You know I wanted to add some insite for this post. I myself have started to realize that what is the purpose of my attainment in becoming versed in musical talent and I die and end up in the pit that burns for everylasting darkness. All my days spending time learning out what is the latest lick or phat chords amounts to absolutely. Don't get me wrong God does want and EXPECTs the very best from us but at what cost, well it is definitely not our souls which is why I encourage everyone that visits and contributes to LGM to be that WITNESS he wants us to be and more than in just the musical area we have come accustomed to over time. There is one scripture in the bible that I would end this post with is:
There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. The
same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that
all men through him might believe. He was not that Light,
but was sent to bear witness of that Light. That was the
true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the
world."
John 1:4-9, KJV

In the words of the late and great Dr. Mattie Moss-Clark "I'm saved and sanctified, but not only am I saved and sanctified, I AM SATISFIED!!!!".
-
now you're talking it's not about how many chords you know or progression but when you sit down at the keyboard do you play under the annointing. Saved, Sanctified, and filled with the Holyghost.
-
Thank God I'm on this list (wasn't always)... saved and sanctified, and satisfied as well!!!!!

I want to ask all the musicians especially COGIC organist
You are right on point, I've been preaching this to the musicians in my area (Newark, NJ). If you ain't living nothing, then it's all "sounding brass and tinkling cymbal"
I have a question though, why do you specify "COGIC"?? Do you mean organist that play with the cogic style or pentecostal flavor?? I am not COGIC (Church of God In Christ), I am a church organist that happens to be an Evangelist and Minister for the Lord, who is saved and sanctified. I do attend a church that came out of COGIC, but we are non-denominational.
Please enlighten me so I can understand.. ;) ...Thanks

LOL..I think you meant "key word"?? Ok..I understand. So my next question is, are COGIC musicians loosing focus on the purpose that they were called to do?

Seen alot of stuff in the COGIC music church environments. Seen times where the choir and praise and worships have been setup to a point of exaltation and then a musician gets up a walks to the bathroom or goes IM'n on the phone. I'm like comeon cuz, that sometimes can throw a whole damper on the service, and that's when I realize that were we have lost our focus and not just specifically in COGIC but any church. However, I was making specific reference to COGIC musicians because I have seen some of the most gifted and annointed young men and women of God in this denomination and it's is no coincidence.

I feel your pain. Musicians have to be senitive and sincere to the flow of God that's in the house.

I'm somewhat there and have struggles like EVERYONE on here. However i can't stand folks that try to act like they just got it together when you can see right through them. When you try to have a conversation you get these type of responses all the time "oh bless the lord my brotha", etc when your just trying to have small talk. We all know someone like this.

I know I'm late, but put me on the list. This is the same word that God is speaking over here in Arkansas. He doesn't want us (not only as musicians, but as MINSTRELS) to lose focus. It's too critical now and we must take on the responsibility to usher the people into that intimate place with God. I know we have chords and runs that just make their spirits happy, but what happens when the song is over and you've been given your props? Can you really give God the glory when you didn't really lead the people to Him through your playing? I just want to encourage you to not lose focus. We have a purpose in the music ministry first to Exalt Him and when we exalt Him, He blesses the people. Stay in the face of God for direction and even phatter chords and just remember to give Him all Glory, Honor, and Praise.

I KNOW IM LATE, LATE BUT IM GLAD TO BE SAVED, AND SANCTIFIED. MUSICIANS DONT UNDERSTAND THAT MUSIC FOR US IS LIKE A MIRROR IF YOU ALLOW GOD TO COME IN AND CHANGE AND REARRANGE THE NECESSITIES OF OUR LIVES THEN WE PLAYIN IN VAIN AND ITS UGLY TO GOD. THE BIBLE SPEAKS OF PEOPLE WHO OFFERED STRANGE FIRE OR SACRIFICES TO GOD AND THEY WERE EVEN KILLED. I UNDERSTAND WHAT U MEAN BY THE COGIC... FOR INSTANCE DID ANYBODY SEE THOSE FOOLS IN MEMPHIS LAST YEAR WITH THE TAMBORINES AT THE MIDNIGHT MUSICAL...LOL
