Title: What in the world?
Post by: shell06 on November 08, 2008, 07:30:43 PM
I found this job posting for a church in VA in need of a drummer. When I read it I was like... :-\ :-[ ?/? :-X ?/? :o :( >:( :D! Lord have mercy to whoever posted this. I would sure like to find anyone who would even want to be a drummer at this church. I'd sure like to find out why their former drummer left....

"Still looking for an anoited drummer for Saturday and Sunday worship services. May also include some weeknight events too. Just don't come bringin' some nasty spirit up in here. Too much of that crap in the church world already. Just be willing to work hard with a required 3 rehearsals a week, 2 night services both Saturday and Sunday and a few revival nights during the week from time to time. The church is paying $50.00 a week plus a free dinner on Saturday nights. Do be expected to pay 10% tithes and another 10% free love offering back to the church or we prefer to go ahead and deduct it out of your pay check. Required paid parking program is in effect for now going to our new building program. So you will also have to pay a $5.00 per service parking fee too. Must bring your own drums and be able to read music too. No smoking, no drinking, no runnin' the streets going on in your life. You will be in a highly visible position in the church. And no playing in the dirty nasty smelly whore bars or juke joints neither. We want your full dedication and talent given soley to the Lord. No traitors tolerated."

That ad had to be a joke.

Churches be buggin these days, and wonder why they cant keep a competent musician. That church probaly has no more than 15 people in attendance, yet has all those services. SMH

LOL - This reminds me of that nanny ad some mom ran a few months back in New York City - all about what a pain she and her kids were, all the things the nanny had to do to please them, and a warning about applicants not having a nasty attitude about it all...

Hope that 'free dinner' is good...

After Tithes, Parking, And the Love offering fee, the drummer is only bringing home like $30 dollars.  :D I can see Tithes, but a parking fee? What? Thats outrageous! :o

"Must bring your own drums and be able to read music too."

They expect the drummer to cart his set back and forth? With 2 services and 3 rehearsals per week, it would be easier to just keep them in the church...

Fifty bucks a week for all of that?

I play at a church with a cheap 300 Mapex kit, no other musicians, and I don't have to attend choir rehearsals. They've been singing the same songs devotional and hymnals since the end of slavery, and their is nothing for me to learn...

....oh, their are more people in the choirs than in the congregation.

I get paid 90 bucks there.

Want to know why I'm playing there? A favor for my uncle.

That's exactly what happened this past Sunday at my church. The front of the church had the deacons, missionaries and a few of the children, but from row 4 back it was a ghost town until about an hour after the service began. People were late as heck last Sunday and I don't know why. Thank God the Mass Choir only sings 2nd and 4th Sunday's.

1. Tell them Noel Jones is speaking during Sunday School.(For those who still have Sunday School)

2. Tell them Kim Burrell is leading praise and worship with Kurt Carr Singers as background vocals.

3. Tell them TD Jakes will be bringing the Word that morning.

They'll all be early ;D

Tell them that there's food being served downstairs in the kitchen an hour before service!

ROLMBO!!! O...M...GOSH!!   :D :D :D :D :D

So they pay you $50 and make you pay $15 of that back?

$50 is not enough for all the work you'll be doing.  I wonder if this is how they do their other musicians.  A lot of this stuff could have either been left out or said better.   :-\  I wonder if they're still looking.  ;) :D
