Post by: brutha28 on November 10, 2008, 10:58:12 AM
I have a question. Where can i find music production software if i wanted to hook a keyboard to use as a controller to a laptop for mainly piano, strings or election piano sounds. Could i find any open source programs out now or cracked programs. Also what would i kneed to hook laptop/PC to keyboard that has midi/usb cables and produce output on external speakers.?  Is there any thing good out and suggestions.

1.  I dont know of any open source music production software.  There's a bunch of software out there, but It cost money.

2. You'll need the actual laptop, the controller, a midi interface if your controller doesnt come with on, an audio interface, and the speakers.  I think this all you need, I am new to this also.

I use Reason for live stuff if I am in the lead. If backup, I still use Reason and the B4 organ program. I use a 1/8" male to 1/4" female so I can plug a instrument cable from the adapter to the amp. You can also use a 1/8" male to male cable to the laptop to the amp.  Then just get a 1/8" female to 1/4" male to plug to amp. either way will work. For midi controllers, anything will work as long the computer and the programs can recognize it.

What piano VST's do you use through REASON?  Is reason easy enough for someone to hook up if they have a good understanding about electronics and extensive computer background?

Really no harm, a illiterate person can work Reason. there isn't any "VSTs" in Reason. I have the MKS-20 refill and mostly the sounds that are included with Reason.
