do you give your Pastor? I have friend who won't move to another area in the same city, switch jobs, get a job or go on vacation without checking with her Pastor. No she does not work for him. Am I wrong or where do you draw the line?

My aunt goes to a church where the Pastor is very controling. They can't do anything without the Pastors say so!

Some people think that a Pastor is in control of every aspect of their lives when the word "obedience" is misused or misconstrued. His job is the give you the Word, and then you decide how it will affect your life.
My Pastor gives me advice when I ask for it. He gives me the option to make a decison on it. He has not dictated anything to me. I know of a well-known Pastor that had some folks hanging on to him so tight that he has actually had to tell some of his members to go home and spend time with their spouses and family because they were so involved at the church.

None! I discuss issues and decisions with my husband, who doesn't control me.
People shouldn't become dependent upon the Pastor or anyone they consult. Even in counseling, I don't make decisions for people or tell them what they need to do. My job is to guide them to make a decision based on God's Word. Decisions are personal and should be made by the individual.
People can become dependent to those who give counsel (pastors, teachers, counselors), but a good leader should make sure they don't become a god the people who they desire to help.

Well my friend and I really got into it about this because she kept saying "Paul said follow me as I follow Christ". That was her basis. She told me I was "rogue" and did not know how to submit. GEESH

My church has a reputation of being a bit controlled by our Pastor. I don't think that is so. I know for a fact that the PA church isn't. We value the words and teachings of our Pastor and try every day to live those words but we have our own minds and we make our of God-led and not Pastor-led decisions. We go to him for guidance as needed. He gives it and then go on our way. I am sure that he has better things to do than to micro-manage our lives.

Yeah, I've never seen anything in the BIBLE that says we have to ask the pastor before we can do anything. Now if its something regarding my personal ministry, then I may consult the pastor for his opinion, or tell him just out of respect, but he wouldnt have the final say over it or any part of my personal life.
I think Pastors like that are one reason why there are fewer men in church. Not many grown men wanna be told what to do from a dude that dresses like a pimp.

Lol that's a bit much. I only check with the pastor on ministry related things.
