Title: Heading to GC right now, hope someone helps me before I head out!
Post by: Audiocr381ve on December 01, 2008, 06:38:34 PM
Hey guys/gals,

I'm looking for sticks other than hot rods that would be good for keeping the volume down. I keep breaking these darn hot rods. Any suggestions? Things you do to keep it down? Sticks? Besides changing my technique LOL. I want to play with the same power but have less volume. I guess I'm hoping there is a product out there.

I use a stick by promark that is more like a broom.  I can't remember what it is called but it works for changing textures.  I believe they make a nylon version of it.  You might not find it at a 5 star shop....  Maybe not as much luck at GC.

Give it a shot.

Sorry I am just checking in and seeing this thread but Vater has you covered....

I personally use these:

Wood Handle Whip - Nylon, very light and durable... general use where you would use thin rods/rutes

http://www.vater.com/newproducts/product.cfm?M=57 (http://www.vater.com/newproducts/product.cfm?M=57)

Acoustick - I use these on Pop Rock and Power Rock ballads... nice clarity on hi-hat and ride cymbals

I used these for a loooong time... they last very well you get the soft sound of the would with the rubber covering protecting the rods so you can give a nice smack on the rim shot to fatten up the back beat
Splashstick

I am seriously thinking about picking these up:

Splashstick Heavy

Little Monster - smaller nylon broom stick

Monster Brush - nylon broom stick, fat back beat

Adding all the suggestions I`d say try VF rute 505 which are made of nylon and they last much longer than regular wooden rutes.

Excellent advice guys. I didn't even know some of these sticks existed.

I ended up trying Pro Marks Stealth Rods. I love em'! I have some hot christmas stuff I'm gonna post up. My best work yet!
