Title: Advice On Helping a New Keyboard Player

Ok here's the deal: There is a man at my church who wants to play keyboard/piano. He has more knowledge than me as far as theory etc; his ear could use some work but he is doing fine. BUT, his confidence levels are low and just want someone to tell me how he can build his confidence...

The greatest confidence builder to  me was actually playing before an audience. The more that I did it, the more confident I became. Even though my skill level wasn't that great I began to feel comfortable that I would be able to play adequately, and my nervousness diminished

I also was more confident when I had practiced the material that I was going to play until I knew it upside down and backwards.

Bottom line is he has to jump in the water with both feet, but he has to be able to swim some.

Bingo!

There is absolutely no way he can grow and be confident if he does not play in front of people.

I remember my first service...by was i scared! I literally shook the entire service but it turned out fine. It gets better and better the more you play in front of people.

In addition to what the others said, he needs to pray. It worked for me.

As for his ear, he just has to get familiar with the keyboard, and that may take a while.

He does have to get comfortable with his playing. Usually he plays with the volume low. He says its because he wants me to be heard...
Most of he time i reach over and turn his board's volume up so he can be heard. This was MY first problem volume but I grew out o' it. Maybe he will too...
