NICE!!! I am truly inspired. Don't come to my church from now on if you don't want to hear some of those same licks!!! :D :D :D
-
When i come to your church,i want to hear those licks ;D ;D
-
Very nice and simple. Imma try and use some distortion in church this Sunday. I'm getting tired of using ONLY clean tones.

Our pastor will only allow us to use clean tones. ;D

That's a joke, right?
So, can your organist use an overdriven Leslie?
Can the keyboard player use any lead patches, or only the piano sounds?
I'm not trying to sound brash, but I seriously hope you're playing.
I'm assuming that was the intent of the toothy smiley lol. ;D

Aww come on man!!!! ;D You don't have to go overboard, but a lil' touch of overdrive can be wonderful thing. If you get an OD unit that responds dynamicaly to your attack, your guitar will come to life. So now you have to go out and buy a small tube amp ;)!

Well man all i have in church is a Fender Frontman 212R 100 watt amp- solid state. Its an OK amp for home practice but not really suitable cuz my church is a bit big and the sound does not carry all the way back.
Plus for some crazy reason the amp is very twangy. I turn down the treble on the amp AND on my strat and it still sounds so twangy.

Well if thats the way his Pastor wants it, I dont see what the problem is.
BTW, I love my overdriven leslie :D

Are you plugged into the Drive channel?
If so, you need to crank up the Drive control for more overdrive.
And is that a Standard Strat that you're playing? If so, some of your twanginess is coming from it. Throw some humbuckers or some hot noise-canceling singles in that dawg and your twang will decrease. ;D

Not that there's a problem, but I just wouldn't play there.
That's my form of worship, and if I can't do it the way I feel I'm supposed to do it, then I'm not giving my all, and I might as well not be doing it.
That's just me, though.
As said above, I'm not talking chunkity-chunk palm muting madness, but my amp never leaves the lead channel. It's jut manipulated by my volume, touch, and pedals.
The overdriven leslie comment was a statement about hypocrisy. I'm sure that pastor loves him some Leslie, but that's not how the organ was designed, so it "shouldn't" be allowed, if overdrive isn't allowed--as that's not how the guitar was designed.
No offense to your pastor, Rown, but it's borderline cavemen-style-legalism, and I just can't get down with it.
I'd hate to imagine what's being missed if people aren't allowed to worship they was they are called to (note that I said "called" not "wave around a ribbon-tasseled tambourine randomly--but I guess that's between those people and God...)
Maybe I'm going overboard, but I know that I just can't play the same unless I've got MY stuff, and I'm "allowed" to use it--and if you can't play the way you're used to, then it's bad, and if it's bad, it's a distraction to those around you, and you're not putting worth for Him what you came to put forth. On top of that, you're taking away from those around you--which means you are taking away from God.
Actually, in any church I've played in, I didn't event ask that question. I just played. I've never had a complaint.
Not starting fights. I'm sorry. That just irks me to no end.

Or he can use a top-secret trick that only a select few of the most elite guitarists know.....use your tone control. If you want to swap pickups, try something with a darker voice such as Seymour Duncan's Quarter Pounder. Now as we all know, McDonald's also offers a Quarter Pounder, but I don't think they'll work to well on a Strat (or any guitar) though. Having said that, McDonalds QP beat Seymour's QP in an independant taste test by more than 3,000,000 to 1 - wonder who that "1" was ;).

A 100-watt amp is overkill, especially for practice. I guess you're kinda stuck unless you can convice church management to invest in a better amp. Will they let you use your own amp?

Well my bassist is going to talk to them and ask for a better amp. No one really understands these things in my church so its hard to get new equipment when the old ones "seem" to be working fine.

Yep, standard Strat. Rolling off the tone control helps a bit but then it starts to get muddy quickly. I can't wait for my Gibson MM to come in in all its P-90 glory. ;D

I feel you on that JP.I think it also depends what type of gospel you are playing. In black gospel, you can just about get away with no gain.Sure i could use some gain, and he would not know. But,once i step up in God`s house.I take self out the way. When the head shepard tell me to,or not do something.I have to respect that,if i agree or not.He is the head,of the flock. ;)After the church service,we let loose somewhat.

You know, I wrote that only halfway into my 1st cup o' coffee, and I didn't mean for it to come out the way it did.
I fully understand taking self out of the way, and, from that aspect, I can agree, but I guess I have some things I need to work on, because when the music isn't right, it's such a hindrance to me, that my mind is focused on that only; and I don't want to "sit on a service" as we used to say, and mess up someone else's experience--let alone strip God of their worship at the same time.
I'd rather not play and just worship if I can't use my music as worship in the way I feel I was designed to do.
I think from now on I'm not going to try to formulate heavy thoughts like that before 10 lol.

LOL, no I wasn't trying to fully retract; I just come across as a lot more militant than I mean to at times.
I'm learning to speak my mind without being a Scrooge about it ;)
Actually, my wife asked me yesterday, "You're going to be a grumpy old man, aren't you?"
I'm trying lol.
