Post by: upincomingbass on November 29, 2004, 05:33:58 PM
Whats up bassist, much love to all musicians out there, well i'm 19 and im new to music, meaning i'm new to playing any instrument, but i have always loved music, i can keep beat and all, i've recently picked up the bass, my dad plays the guitar been playing as long as i can remember but i don't live no were near him but he showed me the basic church chord, but my problem is that i'm not use to the switching of my fingers so to speak, i have a hard time alternating fingers on my right hand, and when i try i usually mess, up. so i was wondering if anyone else had this same problem and had some practice technique that i could use to better my playing.

You mean alternating fingers every time you play a note?  I know what you mean.  What I did was take some bass lessons from a professional teacher.  He made me buy a book on how to read bass notes off of sheet music.  In the book, it shows you how hold your hand over the strings so it is easier to alternate fingers.  I used to just play with my thumb all the time, then it got bruised up a lot and it hurt real bad.  So, I went back to my book and began practicing playing one note with one finger then the next with another finger until I got comfortable with it.
