I told God I wanted to learn bass but couldn't afford one. I was playing organ for another church at the time. God told me my season with this church was over. Decently and in order I transitioned out. The church God led me to had a bass with amp but no one to play. After being setteld in adn becoming the minstrel for the ministry I asked the pastor about the empty bass jsut sitting there. He let me have it, the amp, and all the pedals they bought to go with.
Should I try adn learn my scales or just get to know my notes string by string? :lol:

Im a keyboard player but Im just learning bass on my own. I practice patterns and exercises even though Im not playing it anywhere. I have found that these exercise have given me better finger strength and dexterity. and by thinking about the key im in Im learning the notes on the bass neck. The things I practice are the octaves, exercise, the blues and major scales(willl be working on the minor). I think these are basics you should learn first along with techniques like slaping, tapping, poping, muting, and harmonics. I think I have a better understanding of what to practice because I started on piano(keys) and have studied theory.

Hello. I've been playing bass for about 10 years. I would suggest that start learning your scales and the name of each note in every scale you learn.
