Title: FarmerB3
Post by: B3Wannabe on March 12, 2009, 07:06:32 PM

So we picked a house today. God blessed us and gave us exactly what we were looking for:

2260 Sq Ft
2.2 Acres
4 Bedrooms (2 master bedrooms)
3 Bathrooms
...and a bunch of add-ons from the previous owner.

It's all electric, but it has a fireplace. The good thing about it being all electric is that when I do the wind turbines, the power will support everything.

We almost did the RV thing a couple times, because we were getting impatient, but we knew this wasn't the right time. We will do the RV thing, but not right now.

How tall are your wind turbines gonna be?

I'm going to start with one VAWT (verticle axis wind turbines), with a 3000watt power invert, and maybe 10 AGM (or marine) batteries. There will be other little parts that I'll have to buy also. It'll stand maybe 20-30 feet.

Congratulations, B3W (and Mrs. B3W)!!!! I'm so happy for you all! Now you can get all settled in and stuff.

Thanks. We've been in hotels since we left Korea, on the 16th of January. :o

Is that better than solar?

Well, since wind blows 24/7, I would think so.

Some places get more sun than air though, so maybe the sun can generate more power than wind in those places. I'm in tornado alley, so I think there is enough wind. I think the total cost will be around 1500-2K.

3000 watts is enough to power a microwave, a vacuum cleaner, maybe two computers, and about 10 compact florescent lights.

I haven't crunched the numbers to see how long I could run at full drain.

I want to build one of these:

Not to hijack your thread Big B3, but this is actually one of the negatives of wind-power.  It really doesn't blow hard enough all day long to generate beneficial power.  But Congratulations are still in order, and I hope you get it working like you want!

Congratulations on your land and home!

Solar AND Wind...if the sun don't shine, maybe the wind blows...

I'll be a wind-powered space craft. ;)

We move in on April 30th. I'll do a video, so we can be like Property Virgins: B3Wannabe

The house is pretty much done. I just need to do a lot of landscaping.

I plan to close in the front deck, and build a sunroom, with an observatory (or deck) on the top, in the back.
