Title: Replacing EMG's w/Bartolini On Schecter Studio 6
Post by: craigory on March 26, 2009, 04:55:34 PM
Greetings!
I'm considering switching out the EMGhz pickups on my Schecter Studio 6 with Bartolini's because I'm looking for a deeper power thump along w/great treble & mids. Has anyone made that switch with this bass?

I made this switch in my elite 5 back in 07. The whole bartolini setup was way better. I'm switching out my bart preamp this wek with the aggie obp 3. The barts, imo really complimented the bass and gospel style of which I play. You won't be dissapointed.

was planning to make this same mod to my custom 5 (stupid tax returns) i'll have to wait now.

whats the reason for the switch from bart pre to the aggie? i thought the bart pre was supposedly more "high-end".

I wanted a three band eq, and I wanted to try out this highly talked about preamp.

As far as parts, what parts are you referring too?

I want to make sure I understand you... My bass already has bass, treble & mid controls. Are you saying the Bart preamp that will come with the pickups DOES NOT have B/T/Mids?

a bart pre doesnt come with the pickups. you have to buy that separately. if  you just ordered the pickups you would wire the new pickups to your existing preamp thats already in the bass. im thinking you didnt order a pre because you would know that they come in a vast variety of configurations.

with the exception of the studios, the rest of the schecters only have 2-band eqs. so im assuming ddwilkins did a swap out for just a 2 band bart pre. i went with a 4 band audere, but i still want them EMG pickups outta there.

If I'm understanding this correctly, it's not really the bass (or number of knobs) that dictate what band preamp you have or which you can replace it with.  ddwilkins did have a 2-band eq replaced with a 2 band eq.  However I have the same bass and went from a 2 band to a 3 band.  I just bought the model of the preamp I wanted that had the mid and treble knobs stacked.  I didn't have a switch so I also opted for the switch built into the mid knob.  Of course this meant I had to purchase different pots to accommodate the stacks and switching.  None of this was a problem for me since I do my own electronic work.  However in general, you can purchase a model of a desired preamp to fit your knob/switching needs.

Pickups are sold seperately as well as the preamp. So if you purchased everything, you'll most likely be purchasing three seperate items. As far as the controls, you can have either a 2 band preamp or 3 band preamp.

Thanks a whole lot!! I want to keep my knob configuration, bass,treble,mids,volume,pickups(front/back pan). Any idea of preamp cost?

I think there was something, but I can't remember. You can always look that up on the net.
