Post by: sjonathan02 on April 23, 2009, 03:00:21 PM
That's right, sports fans. Tony Gonzalez has been traded to the Atlanta Falcons.

Nice move, Hotlanta!

...and in other news, The Detroit Lions logo now has teeth.  Yet we're still about to make another stupid draft pick.

Not feeling one John Matthew Stafford, eh?  ::) :D

But this is a strange trade from the perspective of a KC Chiefs fan.  T.G. claimed he wanted to be traded to a team that had a chance at winning a championship...  I don't see this happening with Atlanta before he's too old, slow, or decrepid to play. JMHO.

Not convinced at all.  We need another linebacker to play opposite of Julian Peterson and we need more on the O-Line.  I'll tolerate Culpepper for another year before trying to get another QB.

Not feelin' that at. all.

At the end of the day, the Lions need a LOT of help in various places.  :-\

Wow...didn't know that. They have a good young quarterback. He should have a good season.

I also heard that the Lions got rid of their cheerleaders. From a woman's perspective, that's downright shocking to me. How are they going to get the men to the games now!!!

Never had 'em.  I used to attribute their chronic losing to the fact that they are the only team without cheerleaders.  Gotta have some way of distracting the opposing players.

This should have been the Lions new logo.

Well, that thought can easliy be circumvented by lots of money.

Stinkin' Eagles!!!!  They were in the running for Gonzales.  I am sure the Jeff Laurie and Joe Banner figured out a way to screw this one up again.

Sorry...I fogot that I am the only Ealges fan on this board.

I wish Tony Gonzalez the best.  He's a good guy with good TE skills.  I don't think he'll win any championships with Atlanta but I still wish him the best.

I still don't know what my Lions will do.  We do need a lot of help as previously mentioned.  I'd still like to get another good linebacker and an OT quickly.

The Lions need a LOOOOOT of work.  Stafford won't be a quick fix....even if he turns out to be great.

Aaron Curry might be a better pick, but most fans want a QB - a higher profile position.

I hope they realize that, more than any other sport, football is a team game.  If you had a quarterback with Montana's head, Marino's arm, Young's accuracy, and Vick's legs, and put him on the 2008 Lions, they still don't make the playoffs.

FYI: I don't think this draft has an OT worthy of the #1 pick.

This is exactly why I would go with Aaron Curry with the first pick, a strong DB with the next first round pick, and a solid OT with that second round pick.

Your plan will help the Lions build a solid foundation for years to come.

...that's why they won't do it.

How do these execs consistently get it wrong?  Winning football teams start up front: Offensive line and Defensive Front 7.

QB's are very difficult to evaluate, and that makes them TOO RISKY to spend/waste a #1 overall pick on.

Some of the greatest QB's of all time weren't #1 picks.

Picking any QB #1 is a bad move unless the guy coming out is Peyton Manning.  Stafford has been FAR less consistent than Manning was.  Aaron Curry is the right choice.

Someone agrees:

snippet:

"....You are Charlie Brown lining up the field goal. Stafford’s potential is Lucy holding the football. You think that this time it will work. Yet you will wind up on your collective backs..."

JaMarcus Russell....
Alex Smith.....
David Carr.....
Tim Couch....

It is with sadness, that I would have to agree with you.

He's a great player.  There's no doubt about that, but...

...he's 33 years old.

I'd say he has another 2-3 years of solid productivity.

Atlanta will benefit more over the next 2-3 years, but IF the chiefs get a solid player (doesn't have to be a star) with the pick they got from ATL, they will benefit more in the long run.

So, you think the team that gave up a solid player is better off because they get the chance to POSSIBLY get a quality player?  ?/? :-\

The Falcons made the playoffs last season, with the addition of a SOLID TE, they can concentrate on developing their defense and possibly make it into the second round of the playoffs next season; maybe even win their division.

I think Hotlanta got the better of this deal hands down.

Short term Atlanta certainly got the best of the deal.  In the long term KC may be able to win out.  Don't know if this gives them any cap relief to go after a player next year that can fill a gap for them.  Also, the draft picks could pan out to be quality players.  That is, of course, KC's gamble.

Actually, long term Atlanta wins out as well. If they indeed try to shore up their defense, it can be young and dominant for years to come.

Couple that with the youth of Ryan @ QB, White @ WR and Turner's fairly youthful (at least, hasn't taken too many hits) and I think Atlanta could become a force to be reckoned with sooner rather than later and for a good minute, too.
