Title: Not for Sale!
Post by: LaylaMonroe on April 23, 2009, 03:30:12 PM
Is there ONE THING you own or possess that you would never sell for any amount, under any circumstances?  (And humans don't count; we're talking about things here, not people).

My gold bracelet given to me by my pastor for my birthday. It is a lovely piece of man-jewelery and is 100% pure gold.

My gold chain given to me by my aunt. Also pure gold and i have had it for the past 7 years and have taken it off probably 10 times in those 7 years.

My deceased mother's tattered and worn Bible that she carried in her purse:   PRICELESS!! ;D

Nope.  It's all on sale for the right price, lol.  I'll hang on to the intangibles like virtue, integrity, and so forth... :D

Yep. That's my answer, too.

If you had asked me that (or if I had asked myself... lol) ten years ago, I'd probably answer that my baby blanket isn't for sale, nor is my dog, my gospel CD/DVD collection, or my deceased father's pictures.  But after having lost a lot of material things in my life, I realized that every tangible thing is just... a thing. I didn't come here with it, and I won't leave here with it.  So, for the right price (it'd have to be a heckuva price, though), I'd even sell my great-grandmother's pearls.  It's just stuff.

OMG!  I was just studying some of Ecclesiastes and how Solomon did it all and experienced all the world has to offer, and discovered after all of it, that it's vanity, empty, void...

He even said that sorrow is better than happiness, because sorrow is what helps us examine ourselves and make changes (that's a drastic paraphrase of course).  It really made me think.  All of this striving to get more stuff, one could just take a page from Solomon and save the trouble.  Stuff is okay, but focusing on it causes you to lose out on what really matters.

**Chuckles nervously**

Did i say gold chain and necklace?  ;D ;D

I meant of course the fact that i have been refined by God like gold. I was using those two filthy, tangible, temporal, and worldly things as metaphors for what i truly value...my life as a Christian.

You're so silly.  Nobody's hating on you, Fen.  But I do think you would sell for like 10 Mil...

My pastor just talked about Solomon on Sunday, and I decided that I need to re-study Solomon.  I need to get a good profile book on him.  That dude's wisdom is just mind-blowing.

My Vinyl records. A lot of them were my mother's, and the others are just classic albums that i love.

Other than that, I cant think of anything. I'm not a real sentimental person.

Wow! I still have my baby blanket too. And it's not for sale!

I'm having a Moving sale this weekend and am getting rid of most of my stuff, but things not for sale are items passed down to me:

My grandmother's end table it's about 80 years old
My grandfather's briefcase (about 60 years old)
My mom's silverware set

This may not be exactly what you're looking for, but I really enjoy it.

Yeah, my mom has stuff she's waiting to pass down, but none of that stuff is in my possession right now.

I do still have my baby blanket someone made for me when I was born.  I don't have to worry about that, because while I'm sure there's a price, I doubt anyone is willing to pay that much for my old baby blanket that only means that much to me, LOL!

This is my answer. And, not necessarily for any spiritual reason. It's just there's nothing I own with which I can't part.  :D

My diaries...never in a million years even if I get famous would I sell them.  If my kids get desperate for money and decide they want to sell my story I will ask God for permission to haunt them when I die.

I have a all-weather blanket that my Aunt had bought for me when she found out that I had become a truck driver.  She came to visit 2 weeks after I started and she died 6 days later.  I received the blanket after she died for Christmas(She died a week before Christmas a few years back).  I have yet to even take it out of the plastic.  I will never use it.

Also, my music collection.
