what are some things
you can do to work on you foot
like get it faster
-
A marching buddy from Louisiana once told me:
"If you want to improve your doubles-practice triples, and if you want to improve your triples-practice quads"
This has helped me a great deal. It appears when you shoot for a beat after the one you're trying to nail, then your mind doesn't concentrate so much on the initial beats as much as it does the last beat you're trying to play. So it's like you inadvertently work on one thing while practicing something else!
Hope that makes sense ;D

Cool little tip. To add (to that), I would incorporate playing them very slowly so that you'll build the proper muscle memory, and work the tempos up while backing off when you feel too much tension.
Rinse. Repeat.
yeahman...

For starters I would tell you to take control of the pedal. Because if you don't control the pedal, the pedal will control you. With practice, you have to figure how to make it stop when you want it to stop, and go when you want it to go. This is way more impressive than doing doubles and triples. There was a day when I couldn't even get through a song without throwing in some doubles. I was just fascinated by them. But now I hardly ever do them. Control is the key to the best footwork I've ever seen.

If that's the case then you are looking for control - not speed. Learn to control your feet and the speed will happen naturally.

One thing that helps me is that I am constantly tapping my foot when I am away from the kit. If I hear or even think about a beat, I tap my foot along to it as if I am playing. It's made a difference for me.

BTW Have you ever had a feeling like you stuck in some respects like foot speed? For instance there are some patterns that I could have been practicing for a half of a year daily but since you reach some tempo you couldn`t go faster. So general you are practicing some pattern but you don`t become faster. I`ve found out that switching to practicing some related but different stuff could help, but anyway what do you think about it?
I know there is such thing in sports, working out etc like you`ve reached your limit, but is there such thing in drums technique wise?

To add to what Fred said: Look at the placement of your foot on the actual pedal when you're playing these rhythms that require more control. I find that I have more control when my foot stays relatively in one spot.
Now the motion I used when I was learning to control my foot was pretty much the opposite of that. I would literally slide my foot from what seemed to be the beginning of the footboard, all the way until my foot hit the toe-stop :D

In Jojo Mayers DVD he says if you run into a wall like that the best thing to do is practice it as slow as possible and re-work the mechanics. Although Jojo was talking about hand technique I'm sure it applies to the feet as well.

It's saiyan man don't get my favorite show twisted....haha
Dude, just got done with the tour, your boys Adeaze are comedy man. Had a blast with them. Their accent is siiick!
-
MINOR DERAIL: Aye man, if its your favourite show then you'd know that I'm calling it by its real _japanese_ name!? :P
And have you seen the Dragonball Kai series? Its not bad. The plot is a lot better.
FULL DERAIL: So you had a blast with the boys huh? What did you think of Viiz vocal range? Were there any particular songs of theirs that you liked?
Oh and I think our accent is butch as. :D
-
His range was sickening. The dudes are just too much fun to hang around. There was never dead time with them, unless they were crashed out. They were always crashed on the planes.
They did a tune with something like "hold on, change is coming" in the hook. I really dug on that one. There's some video of us on youtube, just search the Adeaze tour I think.
Do you know anything about them getting screwed over by their record label? They had no merch whatsoever.
-
Nah, I don't anything about their record label. I doubt they're with the one I think they were with... That label went backrupt & then got bailed out (but they lost all their artists).
Yeah, they cover the Sounds Of Blackness song pretty well. We still do that old song down here.
