Sounds a bit like those mash-up bowls they had at KFC.
...I can imagine some marketing exec thinking - "Well, if it all goes to the same place"...
:D :D :D

The pancake mix hold it all together. This will serve 10-15 people.

This sounds like a real good meal ReddGirl. I'm going to make it for breakfast in the morning. Thanks...

My mother makes a similar dish, but she also puts ham in it and puts bread slices on the bottom. She also mixes some sharp cheddar cheese in there. Needless to say it does not last long. She usually gets special requests to make it for others once they've had it.
-
Going to try this for my family. Thanks girlfriend.

Sounds yummy!! I have two growing boys & they will demolish this ;D Thanks Redd

Will Bisquick work just as well as pancake mix? ?/?
-
Will Bisquick work just as well as pancake mix? ?/?
Probably - Bisquick makes pancakes, too...
Here's a 'Lazy man's version' for 1 -
cooked bacon, sausage or ham
mushrooms, onions, other veggies - about 3/4-1 cup
1 pat butter
2 eggs
Salt, pepper or other seasoning
1-2 slices or about 1/4 cup grated cheese
1 spoon
Put veggies, meat and butter in a microwave-safe bowl. Nuke for 2-3 minutes. Stir.
Beat eggs, season to taste. Add to bowl and cook for about 2 minutes, stirring midway if desired. Sprinkle cheese on top, give it about 30 sec. more to melt on top.
Apply spoon and enjoy!
:)
-
What? No "nuts of grape"?
-
Oh, and what size dish should I use for this?
-
Those who tried how was it? Yes you can use Bisquick. Let me tell ya'll that is some good eating.

Now there is another twist with the spinach. YUMMY

I just got the opportunity to try the dish this morning. It gets an "A", and my children loved it. I'll be making this again. Thanks ReddGirl....

Yeah! It is a Christmas and Thanksgiving special at our home! Glad you liked it

I didn't do something right. Not sure. LOL!
I'll try again Saturday.

What happened Booh! Was it solid? I might suggest adding more pancake mix or allowing more cooking time. It should be light brown on top and fork should come out clean.
-
I might not wait for "breffus" to try this... I barely eat breakfast as it is, so I just don't see myself actually cooking in the morning.
-
I tried it today. Although I'd say casserole is not wrong, it's seems more like my idea of souffle. I noticed because of the 6 eggs. At first I was going to cut it down to 3 or 4 but then I hesitated and am glad I did. It rose and puffed up like a souffle, or maybe a quiche, is more the word.
I had ham and green onion so I used them instead of sausage, but I want to do another with sausage.
Fun recipe and tasty.

Too. funny.

Same here ~ for us it's a Saturday or Sunday morning kind of thing. I'll let y'all know how it turned out.

I'm thinking the same... Saturday or Sunday.

Yep. Although, with my summer schedule, I could give it a try when I get off of work or.....on....Friday.
Hmm...........a plan is forming. 8)
-
Will cook it tomorrow
-
I agree, it does sound similar to one of my quiche recipes.
I'm going to try it either Friday or Sunday morning.
Meant to ask, does it reheat well? Like, can you make it Friday and microwave it Saturday morning?
-
Those who tried how was it? Yes you can use Bisquick. Let me tell ya'll that is some good eating.
Got mine in the oven now. I substituted the sausage for bacon. I'm a bacon lover, and just didn't want that sausage to over power the taste. I'll let you know when it is done. Me and Cat is going to dig in for lunch. ;)

In what type of dish did you put it? Meaning, did you use non-stick spray in your pan or dish or did you line it with foil?
I'm thinking about making it tomorrow. ;) :)

:-\ ?/? ?/? Line it with foil?? Dude, stick to the warm bread that browns with dry heat! :-\
:D :D :D :D :D
SisT, can you put a little in the microwave and let me know how that works out? The only way I'll be able to do it is if I can make it Friday evening for Saturday breakfast, but I won't bother if it won't reheat well. I can just save it for a holiday or something.

Don't line your bakeware with foil for easy clean-up if you wanna. I like to work smarter, not harder whenever possible. 8)
Now, if I have NO choice but to wash the dish, then so be it. ;) 8)
-
I put my in a square glass dish. It came out very clean. yes I had to wash the dish lol, but there wasn't a lot of scrubbing. It wasn't runny at all.
I think I might substitute the sweet sausage for bacon or ham or maybe even chicken breast next time. It's a pretty dish too. If I DO do sausage again, it will be italian sausage :)
Thanks again Redd
Oh and Rue, I put mine in the microwave and it was just as good
-
I usually line my bakeware for easy clean up too. Larue, when it cools off I'll reheat it and see what happens.
Here's my outcome:
I should have followed my first mind and used a 9x9 pan instead of a 9x13 pan. It came out too thin. I rather it to be a little thicker. I used a non-stick pan, but also sprayed it with non-stick spray. As you can see with the pics below, it removed out of the pan leaving behind no mess. Also, because I had a thin batch, the bake time was only 25 minutes.
I used a pouind of back. It was yummy...but again, just too thin. Next time, for my family, I'll double the recipe and probably use 1 1/2 lb bacon....or I'll add a lil ham too.
Here's pics so you can see the thinness:
Next time I'll use a smaller pan or a double batch....notice with the cooking spray, it came right out. Easy clean-up

I do line with foil, whenever appropriate (like when baking meat or country-style potatoes or something like that). But, I can't imagine how an egg-based dish would come out when baked in an aluminum foil-lined dish. :-\ Just seems weird, dude.
Oh, and I hate washing dishes. I use non-stick bakeware or Pyrex dishes, for most of my baking. Both are a breeze to clean.

My. sista!!! :D :D :D
The pan in your pic is EXACTLY the type of pan I was think of using. And, you say to use a 9x9 pan? Excellent. ;D

THIS just made me want some. I will probably make it Saturday morning. Looking good SisterT!
-
Girl, please. Italian sausage is what I bought. Maple sausage indeed. :-\ :D ;)
So you'd rather use the maple?
Looking at Sister T's pan, I guess i used a 9x9 pan because mine was thicker than that...it was good :)

Nope. I was agreeing with you. ;)
Hey Sister T (or anyone who's made the dish), did you use sausage links and chop them up or something different?
-
Hmmm. I was gonna use a deep, round Pyrex. That looks good, though SisT. And I see what you mean about it being too thin. I definitely pictured it thicker, too.
Can't wait to try it for Sabbath breakfast!!!
-
Nope. I was agreeing with you. ;)

no I bought the Bob evans ground sausage.
-
That looks so good Sister ! I didn't think about pan size I use a smaller dish to make it thicker. But yall got to try the maple sausage with it!

No sweet sausage for me, thanks. :)

I think I would try a combo of the maple and a spicy sage sausage... and like SisterT, I love bacon, so I'll probably chop up some bacon as well.
-
If I DO do sausage
Not if, when... :D
I'm sorry, I couldn't resist. :D

Okay :) I can't wait to hear your results

So, I just got finished making this WONDERFUL dish.
My wife enjoyed it (which says a lot as she can be finicky at times). ::) :D
Here's what it looked like completed:

And, here's a slice:
LL, I had no syrup so I'll give it a try next time (heck, I'll do just about anything, once. :-\ :D)
BUT, (sounding like Darth Vader) I find your lack of taste in cheese MOST disturbing. ;) :D
Overall, GREAT dish, Redd!!! ;D
-
COSIGN!!
I made the casserole Saturday. I used 1 lb. of maple-flavored sausage and about 7 slices of crisp bacon.
The boys and I agree the casserole is off da chain and the boys considered the recipe a "keeper"! :) :)
Thanks for sharing, Redd!
-
Gosh Jonathan, you make it sound so good.
I didn't get to make it this weekend. I went to sleep Saturday night earlier than planned so I had to cook Sunday morning. Had no time for breakfast. Plus, LL kinda threw me off with his description (a big pancake)...

Sis, I'm tryna tell ya, the dish. IS. bangin'. 8)
Plus, it's one of those dishes that can be a variation on a theme. Cheese, no cheese; add peppers/onions; use ANY kind of meat or no meat at all (my wife's idea); add spices if one desires. There are just SO many possibilities to this dish.
The next time I do it, I'm going to use mozzarella cheese. ;)
The dish is DEFINITELY a winner!
For me, it was more eggy than 'pancakey'. AND, it reheats well, IMHO. 8)
-
OMG, I'm just seeing the pic... WOW!!! that's the best looking one I've seen!!! Ok, so I guess I'm going to have to make it this weekend for sure! That thing looks so good.
Whoooooo... thanking Redd in advance! LOL

I appreciate the compliment. :)
Thank Sis T for the look of the casserole. From the conversation about its density, I made sure to use an 8x8 baking dish.
BTW, clean up WAS a breeze, too. ;)

I used a 9x9 glass baking dish which worked just as well. I started to use something a little bigger, but then I kept thinking about what happened with SisterT :-\

Picked up the ingredients last night, gonna try it today. Wifey loves breakfast at all times of day so she should dig it.

Forgot to report in... great stuff! A super eaasy and tasty breakfast meal! I echo sjon's comments exactly, including the finicky wife part, lol!
Next time, I'm thinking ground turkey, onions, and bell peppers. At at some point, there will be a variation with some 'taters.

Been thinking about adding onions and peppers myself (even though I don't add those things often).
Taters might work, as well. ;)

If I weren't as lazy as I know I'd be, mixing in hash browns in there would be pretty cool. This is a VERY flexible dish.

I know I'm late....glad I was the model. Didn't want anyone to make the same mistake.
Jonathan, that looks good. Tomorrow I will try it with a mixture of sausage and bacon. I will also add onion and maybe a little bell pepper.
Again thanks Redd
