Title: What's Your Personality Type?
Post by: Loopy on July 24, 2009, 04:20:19 PM
This week in one of my college courses we were asked to take the personlity test based on the Myers-Briggs personality typology. This is one of the tests from theinternet. I found this very, VERY interesting. Take the test and see what your type is!

Personality Test (http://kisa.ca/personality/)

Below is a good website that explains the personality types in great detail.

Portraits of the Personality Types (http://www.personalitypage.com/portraits.html)

BTW I took 4 different tests based on this system, and my personality type result was:

ISTP.

One test I took came up as ENTP. I'm anxious to see what some of my LGM family members' results are. It'll probably even help explain why some of us respond the way we do on this very message board!

We did this at work!!

I just took it and here are my results....

ISFJ....

    * I – Introversion preferred to Extraversion: ISFJs tend to be quiet and reserved. They generally prefer interacting with a few close friends rather than a wide circle of acquaintances, and they expend energy in social situations (whereas extraverts gain energy).

   * S – Sensing preferred to iNtuition: ISFJs tend to be more concrete than abstract. They focus their attention on the details rather than the big picture, and on immediate realities rather than future possibilities.

   * F – Feeling preferred to Thinking: ISFJs tend to value personal considerations above objective criteria. When making decisions, they often give more weight to social implications than to logic.

   * J – Judgment preferred to Perception: ISFJs tend to plan their activities and make decisions early. They derive a sense of control through predictability.

Well at least we have at least ONE extrovert in the LGM fam!  :D Very interesting indeed, SJon. It says one of the ideal careers for an ESTJ is...TEACHING.

Yep. I've done this sort of test a few times before. Always comes up the same, I just always forget the letters.  :D

Ta-dah, your personality type is ISTJ!

Introverted (I) 86%    Extraverted (E) 14%
Sensing (S) 68%    Intuitive (N) 32%
Thinking (T) 65%    Feeling (F) 35%
Judging (J) 91%    Perceiving (P) 9%

The introverted part is very correct.  I'm pretty outgoing at times, but I'm more introverted believe it or not.  When no one is talking to me, I am very reserved and sometimes prefer to just be left alone.  If there was an LGM event, I might be back in the corner not saying a word, just taking it all in.

Now that's very interesting. I thought you'd be an extrovert. What a surprise.

Took the test and came out INTJ -

Introverted (I) 89%    Extraverted (E) 11%
Intuitive (N) 73%    Sensing (S) 27%
Thinking (T) 75%    Feeling (F) 25%
Judging (J) 59%    Perceiving (P) 41%

Usually get INTP or INFP when doing Myers-Briggs surveys before...must be Personality slippage!

Yeah, BFBT I'm the exact same way. This paragraph pretty much describes me to a "T".

Yeah, TBlock my type description is basically pretty accurate, even though I'm sure most of us have some traits of each type in us. Each time I take different versions of this test multiple times I come up with similar results.

Part of my personality description is that I don't mind conflict and sometimes like to argue! That CAN'T BE TRUE, can it??  ?/? ;) :D

Once I took one of these tests and my result was ENTP, which is intersting because though I can be very extroverted and outgoing at times, I'm really more of an introvert. However when I read the description of the ENTP, this sentence jumped right out at me:

"ENTPs are fluent conversationalists, mentally quick, and enjoy verbal sparring with others. They love to debate issues, and may even switch sides sometimes just for the love of the debate."

WOW. Now THAT'S me all day long.  :D :D

OMG, that's me too, dude!!! I love debating with smart and reasonable people... and I will DEFINITELY switch sides to keep the excitement going! LOL!

Ok, I just read the Myers-Briggs description, and I don't see myself in it at all.  I read the Keirsey description, and found it to be a lot more accurate.

In a weird way, though, this test kinda depressed me.  I've been trying to figure myself out for years. I'm very analytical and very black and white.  Everything in my world has to have an answer or explanation, and has to be reasonable and logical.  Everything has to fit into its proper container... these results are so split down the middle that it really doesn't help at all.

I took the Myers-Brigg one at least twice before for jobs, and I don't remember the letters, but I know the results were more definitive.  This feels like a computer just took a wild guess with me.  :D :-\ :-[ :(

Ok, so I just looked my description up on that second link Loop posted, and I feel much better. LOL!

That one describes me fairly well, with a few nuances.

Also, I meant to highlight this line from the Keirsey explanation of a ENFP:

With a dramatic flair, they share their experiences with others, hoping to reveal some universal truth or win others over in support of a cause.

Now come on, y'all... you KNOW that's totally me! LOL!!!  Though you probably never realized it (unless you know me offline), that underlined part is especially true of me... I'm always trying to collect data to come to some universal truth so I can put it in a box and move on to the next subject...  :-\

Maybe that's it. Maybe you're both?

Yeah, but that would be gray, not black and white.

I mean, it could be that I'm both, but that would seem like such a cruel trick, since God knows that it stresses me out to not be able to analyze and define things... if I'm neither introverted nor extraverted, well... that's a bit of a problem for me.  :-\

Oddly enough, I've never been able to figure out which I am.  People think I'm extraverted because I'm outspoken and assertive, but I'm very anti-social and very uncomfortable in group settings.  I hate being in the spotlight (whether for something good, bad, or neutral).  At the same time, I am very friendly and I work very hard at being outgoing and making people comfortable when they're in my presence.

But, how many people are both introverted AND extraverted at the same time?  What kind of an anomaly is that???

LOL! Wow. You and Bishop2 are the exact same type! I can definitely agree with that!  :D

Ever since I got that ENTP result, I 've been looking at different descriptions on the internet, and that one definitely describes me! The original ISTP result just didn't seem to quite fit. I'm probably like you, LaRue: 50/50 Introvert/Extrovert because though I can be the "life of the party" and can be VERY outgoing at times and don't mind being in a crowd, I'm perfectly fine with being alone and sometimes don't want to be bothered with the folks! Also sometimes in group settings, I'm the one that's quiet and not saying much, doing more listening than talking.

Also, aside from the love of arguing/debating, this sentence really jumped out at me as well:

"ENTPs have little patience with those they consider wrongheaded or unintelligent, and show little restraint in demonstrating this."

OMG that is SO me! All day long! Also this:

"ENTPs are basically optimists, but in spite of this (perhaps because of it?), they tend to become extremely petulant about small setbacks and inconveniences. (Major setbacks they tend to regard as challenges, and tackle with determination.)"

This is so true as well. Any time a major setback comes, though I get kinda stressed, I'm usually the one remaining calm and viewing it as just a "bump in the road" that I'll get over, and I ALWAYS think I'll come out on top, and I usually do!  :D

And this:

"They tend to have a perverse sense of humor as well, and enjoy playing devil's advocate. They sometimes confuse, even inadvertently hurt, those who don't understand or accept the concept of argument as a sport."

OMG! How many times right here on LGM has someone gotten a little offended with me because they think I'm berating them with my arguments, and they think I'm mad and trying to insult them because I can get pretty passionate with my arguments! That is TOO funny!  :D :D And I'm ALWAYS playing the devil's advocate! Also, at times my sense of humor tends to sometimes be biting, sarcastic and sometimes "wry". My friends accuse me of having a "slick mouth" because of some of the one-liners I have uttered!  :D

Finally:

"They highly value knowledge, and spend much of their lives seeking a higher understanding."

That is SOOOOO true, and it's one of the reasons I decided to pursue a career as a teacher!

This is all too interesting to me, which is another trait. I'm very interested in who I am.  ;)

The I'm only "outspoken" and/or "assertive" every once in a while.  (And, unfortunately, during that one time on the prayer call... :-[ :D )

Other than that we seem to be alike in that we don't like the spotlight and friendly.  However I haven't mastered the art of making people feel comfortable around me because I get so nervous that it makes others nervous...or I'll do something out of nervousness that I probably shouldn't have done.

I wonder how they choose one over the other when it's 50-50.

I'm kinda jealous.  :-\  Seriously, though. And I can definitely agree with Bishop2 and I having the same type, especially in light of the "break down."  He's farrrrr more extraverted than I (I think he had a 93/7% split), but other than that, we tend to think and behave a lot alike.

My personality type said that I should pursue a career in business, management, accounting, etc. At first I wanted to be an accountant, but then in the middle of school I was hating it, so I switched.

I didn't see nothing on there about being a teacher, but that's what I'm getting a degree in right now. Maybe I'm pursuing the wrong career and shouldn't have switched from accounting? Who knows. :-\

I don't recall seeing anything on my profile about what kinds of careers I should (have) pursue(d).  I did read something about changing careers often, which is not completely untrue.  For many years, I've been trying to decide whether I want to go to law school or get an MBA in HR.  Recently, I added a third option to the mix (M.Div.), which just made it even worse.  :-\

I can see myself now... 70 years old, still trying to decide what I want to be when I grow up... lol.

Yeah well I'm still not 100% sure whether I'm an ISTP or an ENTP, but I know I'm one of those (I tend to identify with the ENTP slightly more). At least I know the "TP" part is definite! LOL. And Bishop2 is arguably THE most extroverted person I know! BRUTHA man definitely LOVES to talk! Anyone that has ever been on one of those LGM Conference calls acan attest to that :D

70 years old, still trying to decide what I want to be when I grow up... lol.

 :D :D

Hey LaRue, if you go to that second link (the one with the portraits of the personalities), and go to those icons at the bottom, you will see one that talks about careers for the particular personality type.

I didn't see nothing on there about being a teacher, but that's what I'm getting a degree in right now. Maybe I'm pursuing the wrong career and shouldn't have switched from accounting? Who knows. :-\

I know it does say that people can be very successful at careers that are outside of their personality type. I didn't see anything on any of my results that said teacher, but that's my career choice and I AINT CHANGIN' IT!  ;)

The best thing about mine is that whoever I decide to marry will be well taken care of. She won't have to worry about nothing!!! ;) :D

Y'all hear that, ladies? Go HEAD and put that plug in, bro!!  :D

I took this test a few times before also. It always comes out the same, saying that I'm an idealist.

My career profile matches me also.

Possible Career Paths for the INFP:

    * Writers
    * Counselors / Social Workers
    * Teachers / Professors
    * Psychologists
    * Psychiatrists
    * Musicians
    * Clergy / Religious Workers

I thought about being a teacher before. I also wanted to be President, when I was younger--that may be an INFP trait as well. I don't know. I intend to eventually study religion.

Seems like I'm combining four of the career traits with my current projects. (musician, writer, teacher, religious worker)

The first two are me up and down.  I've been a teacher for nearly all of my adult life notwithstanding the last 6 years.  I am however on my way back.  The Lord has been dealing with me in that regard.  I'll be going on to get my masters and Phd in theology as well.  Very interesting.

:o :o Wow.  I just got around to looking over the list of possible career paths.  This thing is so eerily accurate.

Possible Career Paths for the ENFP:

Consultant
Psychologist
Entrepreneur
Actor
Teacher
Counselor
Politician / Diplomat
Writer / Journalist
Television Reporter
Computer Programmer, Systems Analyst, or Computer Specialist
Scientist
Engineer

The first item on the list is a consultant.  That's what I do, and have done for the past 10 years.  I guess that would also make me an entrepreneur, which is the third item on their list.  I am a bootleg psychologist/counselor, to the chagrin of my friends and acquaintances.  I can't help it, though.  I just have to help people figure out their problems, and it's also natural for me to analyze folks without even trying.  Even if I don't analyze them out loud (which I try hard not to), you better believe I'm analyzing them in my head.  :-\

I'm an actress, and coincidentally, I just said over the weekend that I wanted to get back on stage.  I would never want to make a career out of it, because I'm not competitive.  But, I love acting.

I probably would be a teacher today, if the K-6 Program at my school wasn't so competitive.  I majored in Elem Ed at first, but when I found out that there were only 300 openings per semester (and 3000 applicants), I changed my major to Psychology, then Sociology.

I've worked in politics since 1997.

I'm writing my first book.

And last, but not least, my life-long dream was to become a television news reporter.  The only reason I didn't pursue that career path was that I thought you had to be pretty and I didn't think I was pretty enough.  Plus, I'm not competitive enough, so I decided to go with Elementary Education.  :-\

The last three don't fit me at all.

I had a few of my best friends and even the M.O.M. at my church take the test, and they ALL came up as ESTJ (which was kinda NOT surprising). They tend to be "take charge" people, leaders, assertive, aggressive, organized, and most likely to be in leadership positions on their jobs. Interesting.

I've shared my results with some of my friends and they were surprised to find out that I'm really introverted because it doesn't show...I would talk to/play in front of a crowd, but on the inside...I am terrified!

Being an army child (I was not a brat ;D) I've been the "new kid" at least 5 times so when it comes to making friends, I won't hesitate when it comes to going up to someone and talking...had to get used to it.

I do "get-togethers" and not parties...that's maybe at the most 5 of my closest friends...

I also enjoy my quiet time...

Sensing (S) 55% Intuitive (N) 45%
Feeling (F) 70% Thinking (T) 30%

Tradtionally I have been ISTJ so there's not really a big difference.

I think my Introverted/Extraverted percentages would be more near the 50/50 mark now, probably still leaning towards Introverted.

No, i think its right, even on some of your C.S. posts. Remember the whole internship debacle. lol you were thinking about that constantly and posting about it. Now you posted just a few times about your current job search. It appears that you are thinking about stuff less and trusting your feelings about things a little bit more. Or in other words relying on your experiences.

This week in one of my college courses we were asked to take the personlity test based on the Myers-Briggs personality typology. This is one of the tests from theinternet. I found this very, VERY interesting. Take the test and see what your type is!

Below is a good website that explains the personality types in great detail.

Yea.  If you're looking for me at a party I'll be the one trying to get away from everybody.   :D

I'm weird.  I love people and I'm very empathetic, but if given the choice I'd rather be alone.  I go months/years without speaking to family members.  I have 0 non-LGM friends.  If I go anywhere it's either with my wife, my daughter, both, or ALONE.

My wife calls me the Lone Ranger.    :-\

I did a search of ESTP to try to see who/if anyone else on LGM was an ESTP and I found this post of yours from 2007. :)

Oh snap, is that from this thread? Also, that still doesn't explain why my letters are different from another website.

I still think all these tests are bogus. *kanyeshrug*

I am an introvert. And I've come to terms with that. No more trying to change to appease the extroverts.

ag·gra·vate (http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/aggravate)

To rouse to displeasure or anger by usually persistent and often petty goading.

Seems to fit to me.

That's the INFORMAL definition (meaning people have screwed it up so much that it's easily confused). The standard definition of aggravate means to make a problem, injury, or offense worse. You can aggravate a situation. You can't be aggravated. Trust me, I've had this rule hammered over my head in writing class enough to know.

It's like 'anyway' and 'anyways'. One of them is not a word (hint: the one with the most letters), yet it's frequently used, thus accepted. But it's still wrong.

I mean, no one (except me) is going to stone you for using it in casual conversation, but try slapping it in a professional publication for the New York Times or something, and you're going to get a slap on the hand.

As always, the persistent misuse of a word has made it become acceptable.  It's in the dictionary now...

Not in this thread apparently.   :D :D :D

Anyways ( :P), The King was absolutely aggravated according to the dictionary's definition of the word.

Unless the dictionary is wrong.

The dictionary is obviously accepted as the final authority; this is why it's now acceptable to say irregardless or conversate.

I threw in a nice analogy about how such COMPROMISE is shown in the church just to drive home the point in a way that everyone can understand it, but I decided not to go there, so I deleted it. :)

I've done other test and come out this way on those too. I figured it fair to use the same one to see how it would turn out. No difference. Not too many of these out there.
