Hey y'all...
The other night in chat, we were reminiscing on our Y!Church days and how good our Bible discussions used to be. We discussed having Bible Study (or Bible Convo... or whatever you want to call it) on a more regular basis.
No details have been discussed, so the "floor is open" for input. Would you be interested in participating?
I'm thinking we'd probably do it over the phone (anyone welcome to participate) since that might be best for those who don't type well or can't get online at home or whatever. Or now that I think about it, we could probably do both... web/phone simultaneously. I guess we'd alternate speakers based on who volunteers (or is volunteered... lol) to lead the discussion. And I'm thinking it'd probably be best to avoid those doctrinal subjects and just stick to the edifying stuff.
Oh, and just to avoid any issues, this is not an LGM-sponsored thing, so if we need to use Yahoo instead of the LGM chat, we can... just a few folks who want to study/discuss the Word together.
-
I'm in if I'm free. Most evenings are good for me except Wednesdays and many Fridays.
-
What time we talking? You know how you LGMers think your fightin' crime in Gotham City. ::)
-
I'm in also, if I am free. Wednesdays are not good for me. I agree with the web/phone simultaneously. That would be cool.
-
How about Tuesdays or Thursdays? I know most folks have Bible Study on Wednesdays...

That's up to all of us to decide collectively.
We do have to consider the 3 hour time difference between east and west, though... maybe 9:00 Eastern? Is that too early for the west coast folks? Nessa?

I do prayer at 6 pm usually until about 6:30 - 6:45, but I can always join late, I don't want to hold up those on the East Coast. That means I won't ever be called on to lead, LOL! Works for me.
-
Ok so is 9:30 too late for the east coast folks? That way, if Nessa does have to come in late, she'll only be a few minutes late... and on the days she has to teach, we can just extend P&W. ;D :D :D :D :D
-
I'm game!
-
I'd like to participate, if I'm free. 9:30 is perfect for me.
-
Cool. I'm looking forward to one of your lessons. Same goes for Hasmonean, BBG, TJ, Nessa... and a couple of others whose names escape me right now... :D
I'm game!
**gives Britt the classic Motheroo look** You doggone right you're game!!!
-
I'm down. Any evening is pretty much game with me besides Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Probably Wednesday, too, because we have campus Bible Study that night and you know I have to time-travel to L.A. to digitally attend service at West A. ;D :D :D

Tuesdays @ 9 would be tops!! 9:30 is ok but doable.

Ok, I'll add a poll and the time slot with the most votes wins. (and hopefully the people who vote will be people that actually plan to participate).

Ever the administrator. :D
-
I'm game... any day is good for me...
I'm so excited ;D ;D ;D
-
9:30 Thursday is best for me.
-
Ever the administrator. :D
I know, right? ::) :D :D I try to calm the bossy side down, but then all the other sides start popping up! LOL!
Ummm... so it's looking like Thurs/9:30 is ahead (ever so slightly... lol). Would that work for you, though it's not your preference?
I'd hate for anyone who's actually interested to be left out completely.

Actually, that's after P/W rehearsal so I might NEED some Bible study.
I may not be able to make it every Thursday, but's a doable day and time.
Is there a way that what's discussed can be shared to edify those who can't make it for whatever reason?
-
I guess I'll be having Bible Study twice in one night. lol no biggie I probably need it. LOL

Of course. If everyone consents, we can record the convos so others can call in and listen at their leisure (but everyone who's on the call has to agree to that). In Y!Church, I know Chevonee used to copy/paste the entire discussion and PM it to anyone who requested a copy. Those were some goooooood discussions.... whew. Or if anyone has any other ideas for getting the discussion out to those who couldn't make it, we can try it.
But yeah, we can certainly work that out one way or another.
I guess I'll be having Bible Study twice in one night. lol no biggie I probably need it. LOL
Voting is still open, so... we'll see.
I voted "anytime" but now that I think about it, Thursdays really aren't my preference. A lot of the time, I go home on Thursdays, and I might either be on the road or unwinding from the road... lol.
-
Oh well i cant vote. Im on my phone. But im almost home so...
-
OK, I voted for Tues at 9:30, but Thurs at 9:30 is fine for me, too.
-
I'll wait until tomorrow before we finalize the day/time, in case anyone else wants to chime in and cast their vote.
So.... if we're ready to start next week, who's gonna be our first teacher? :)
-
This is something I thought about in Political Economy class...is there maybe a chat function we can use that enables Web Camera viewing? It'd be pretty cool if the 'teacher' could teach in a video format.
That's assuming we're going to be doing it in the chatroom and not over the phone.

Oh, man, we need to find that capability! I never use my webcam, lol! Can't you do webcams on Yahoo!?

My job uses that all the time. Web w/ audio and phone for those who can't get online, or are online but can't use audio for whatever reason.
I don't know of any free services that let you do video meetings (other than the ones that offer a free trial), but I'll look into it.
I gotta say, though, that my vote is definitely not for the web cam thing. I hate web cams. I wouldn't try to stop y'all from doing it, though. Just know that I'll probably never do it myself. ;D
-
Somebody might want to try www.chatforfree.org (http://www.chatforfree.org). I haven't looked into it, but just found it on a search. I can't look right now because I'm (supposed to be) working. :)

There's also www.camchat.org (http://www.camchat.org) and www.room7.com (http://www.room7.com)

Last call for votes...
I'm gonna wrap this up around 2:00 p.m. EST today. Anyone have any other input?
And who's gonna be our first presenter? ;D
Hasmonean? Lordluvr?
-
I voted for Thurs. I would 'volunteer' next week but I will be traveling. Im quite humbled to be considered :).
-
Ok, so by vote, it was decided that Bible Study will be held every Thursday at 9:30 p.m. EST (8:30p CENTRAL, 7:30p MOUNTAIN, 6:30p PACIFIC). TJ, you live in CENTRAL, okay? ;D
So, starting on this coming Thursday, September 24, 2009, at 9:30p EST, we'll use LGM Chat and Teleconferencing to fellowship in study of the Word. Bring your Bibles, bring your pen and notebooks, and let's get in the Word!!!!
I'll post the call-in information next week. I'm still looking into a web-cam chat possibility. But if we do that, it'll be a little further on down the road.
The floor is still open for ideas, thoughts, comments, suggestions, etc.

You could've BEEN voted, girl.... the polls were open since... mannnnn, see how black people do? LOL! You can still vote, but it probably won't change the balance anyway.

You can switch with somebody, Ness... I was just trying to keep it girl, boy, birl, boy... lol. You know I thought to add Teej (that boy has a word in his belly!!!), but I wasn't sure he'd be comfortable sharing.
Teej? Wilt thou be added unto the list?

I'll go for 10/1...because the BIBLE says there is but ONE God and ONE mediator between man and God. Therefore, give me October ONE!!! GLORRRAAAYY!! Yes Lord, I feel this word brewing up in me already.

**Revised Tentative Schedule**
Thursday, 9/24 - Lordluvr (pending confirmation)
Thursday, 10/1 - SirTJ
Thursday, 10/8 - BassbyGrace (pending confirmation)
Thursday, 10/15 - LaRue1212
Thursday, 10/22 - Hasmonean
Thursday, 10/29 - Nessalynn77 (pending confirmation)
Would anyone else like to be added to the schedule?
-
LL is first, and he's pending confirmation? I suggest you place a call to him right away. I may be on the road on the 29th, so I can listen but probably not teach, lol. But give me a week so I can confirm whether I'm going or not.
Not trying to get out of it, really I'm not. I think I got a little nervous when I saw my name up second, lol. Let me get it sorted out, and maybe I can trade with someone.

LL won't mind. Teaching is his calling, so it's like second nature to him. We could call him Thursday at 9:29 and ask him and he'll be like, "sure, okay. Turn in your Bibles to the book of..." LOL! :D :D
But yeah, if he doesn't check in by Monday or so, I'll holla at him.

Well, since I'm here and while I have your attention, turn your Bibles to the book of II Cronicles. I noticed something really interesting there that....

Do I know you or what? LOL
-
Indeed. :)
Ok, so what's the format going to be like?
-
Indeed. :)
Ok, so what's the format going to be like?
Yeah, that's what I was about to ask. Is it going to be like a formal teaching or is it something like throw a question/issue out there and have roundtable discussion about it? Or a little bit of both?
-
I would think that the format will depend on what's most comfortable for the individual facilitator. My personal suggestion is that the whole thing - from start to finish - lasts no more than an hour. But this isn't "my" thing, so that's just a suggestion. Some might want to do questions and answers/discussion, some might want to do a lesson, followed by discussion... or some might have something else in mind. One thing I've learned is that there is room in the body for every style of presentation. Rehoboth - the Lord makes room for us. :)
LL, I know you like a lot of interaction, so I already know what this week's style will be. ;) I just don't want anyone to feel restricted or like they have to do it a certain way. If the facilitator is comfortable, the experience will be better for us all.
Let's just all remember that the average adult's attention span is 22 minutes (and the adult with ADD's attention span is 2 minutes. ;D LOL!!!!
-
So the number to call would be the Prayer Break number?
-
Reading is Fundamental - even on a Monday morning. LOL!!!! :D :D :D
No, it won't be the same number. ;D
-
I will have to try and stay awake for this.
-
I just want to say I'm really looking forward to this Thursday's discussion/lesson. I've sat in on a couple of LL's Bible Studies and dude is an awesome teacher.
Those who will, let's please keep him covered in prayer this week (and all the upcoming facilitators as well). And again, if anyone wants to facilitate one of the discussions, or has a topic suggestion or any other kind of suggestion, speak up!! :)

I can't wait. I may be in the LGM chat the majority of the time and my phone will be muted. Only if I have my niece and nephew on that particular Thursday. This will be nice!
-
Yeah I remember when we had Y! church, LL is a very good teacher. Can't wait! ;)
-
Ugh...With all this build-up, and so little time to prepare (thanks for volunteering me to be first. lol), I hope I don't disappoint.

Myvir2, honey... you know Motheroo loves you, dear.... but this is the SECOND time you've asked that same question in this thread! We might have to put you in the Remedial Bible Study class to make sure you can follow.
I can see it now... we'll be wrapping up the Discussion, and...
LL: Okay, well if there are no more questions or comments, we're gonna go ahead and dism--
Myvir2: Ummm, excuse me, I had one quick question, if you don't mind.
LL: Sure, sis. What's your question?
Myvir2: What chapter are we in?

I got you covered in prayer. ;)

Oh, and I forgot to mention:
For those who aren't able to call in, but would like to participate, we will also be in the LGM Chatroom. Those who can are asked to turn their mics/speakers on if they want to pose or answer a question, so that the folks who aren't on the phone can hear and participate.
We'll see how that works...

I know, Teej... I'm thinking about taking my name off the list... or "inadvertently" switching my day to whatever Thursday happens to be Thanksgiving Day... ya know... inadvertently. ;D
I'm afraid. :-\
-
Y'all are silly. I have to work on that, because I get so involved in a discussion people think I'm angry or something, and I just really believe what I'm saying.
Just like sometimes when I cry, people think I'm hurt when I'm actually angry, lol! My wires are crossed!

Well, I'm just about done with my lesson, and, ummm...I'm thinking it's sort of long. Do we have a time limit? It may just look long on paper - probably won't actually be that long when speaking it.
-
There's no time limit, but as previously stated, the average adult attention span is 22 minutes (unless she has ADD in which case its 2 minutes). ;D
That's pretty much all...

Tonight's study will be facilitated by LGM's coolest dude (at least in his mind) and everyone's favorite little brother: SirTJ.
TJ is a college student at Auburn University, and musician for a couple of churches in Alabama. He's an anointed keyboardist and drummer (for those who didn't know that), and a skilled writer! He has a dry, but hilarious, sense of humor and is a student of the Word. Those who know him well will agree that TJ is wise beyond his years. He resides in the beautiful Montgomery, Alabama, and eventually plans to relocate to California to be a full-time musician for Bishop Blake at the West Angeles COGIC... even though he's not COGIC. LOL!
To participate in the Study/Discussion, please dial:

access code: 727990#
Tonight, and every Thursday, at 9:30 p.m. ET
(8:30p CT, 7:30p MT, 6:30p PT).
Don't forget your Bibles and notetaking instruments, and if you will be calling from a place with background noise, please be sure to mute your phone (if your phone has no mute function, you can dial *6 to mute and unmute).

Goodnight all! Great job TJ! I really enjoyed it even though my toes are swollen...LOL! Loved it. God bless!
-
Great job, Teej. I'm so proud of you. In fact, I'm having a hard time believing you had any trouble at all in your Public Speaking class! :D :D :D
The word was piercing and convicting. I pray that it penetrates my heart and that of everyone else who heard it, and that it takes root and produces fruit.
The discussion was also really great! WONDERFUL input from Nessa and NJ on the call, and SJonathan, Churchyreal, VTGuy, Under13 in the chat... I think there was someone else, but I can't remember... lol.
Anyway, it was awesome. The Lord bless you!
-
I agree! It was great and it was edifying to my soul! Keep on preaching and teaching!
-
I was just thinking, TJ was saying how prayer is not a performance. Just wonder would musicians playing while prayer is going on kind make it a performance? When the prayer gets louder and more dramatic so does the music and so does the congregation. Same for when it gets louder. I'm not saying that musicians shouldn't accompany prayer with music, but sometimes I feel like people get loud with their prayers just to wind people up and musicians tend to aid in that.
-
Bible Study was indeed very good. I always enjoy learning about God's Word and fellowshipping with the saints. Grandma made me go to Sunday School when I was little. Now that I'm older I can't get enough bible study.
I've bee looking for something like this online for about 2years. Can someone say seek and ye shall find?
Amen to the facilitator TJ. "That boy is goin somewhere", a popular saying in the church.
-
I really enjoyed it last night! It was a very fruitful discussion that's still ringing in my soul this morning. I appreciate the opportunity to allow God to use me - trust me, everything I was saying came directly from Him...I was just the messenger. He was speaking to me just as I was speaking to yall. Glory to Christ!
Can't wait until next week to assemble again.
-
TJ: the bible study was a blessing! often times we forget or just neglect to mention that idolatry is a sin; the first commandment! I'm reallllly glad that you spoke on it; there are so many 'things' we put before God... our children, relationships, career, OURSELVES!!!! so, thanks for the allowing the lord to use ya!

**Current Schedule**
Thursday, 9/24 - Lordluvr (taught from Judges 13: God has a purpose for your life)
Thursday, 10/1 - SirTJ (taught from Romans 1:18-32 and I John 5:18-21: Idolatry)
Thursday, 10/8 - BassbyGrace
Thursday, 10/15 - LaRue1212
Thursday, 10/22 - Hasmonean
Thursday, 10/29 - Nessalynn77 (pending confirmation)
Please let me know if you would like to be added to the schedule. I'd like to start planning for November in the next couple of weeks, if possible. If we get no new volunteers, I'll ask the same speakers from September and October to facilitate again for Nov/Dec.
****STARTING NEXT WEEK, WE WILL BE RECORDING EACH CALL (provided the facilitator agrees)****
I'm so sorry that we didn't record the first two. I wouldn't mind listening to either of them again, myself.
-
I have part of the first one if you want me to email what I have to you, LaRue. One issue that I didn't notice until later is because I'm recording from the chat I can't click around my computer because the click noise gets recorded so you'll hear that in the audio. Lol! Also, since only LL's voice is on the mic you'll hear him say, "Uh huh...uh huh..well..." and he'll answer a question and you won't know what that has to do with what he was just talking about because the other person isn't on a mic.
-
Yo, the Bible Study discussion Thursday night was off da chain!!! T.J. really did his homework and came wit some rich word. I thoroughly enjoyed it! :D ;D :D
You still sound exactly like my cousin T, LOL!

I'm confirmed, if need be, I'll get on the road after the lesson, or leave early enough to arrive prior to the start time.
Teej! I didn't get to log on and say how blessed I was by the word on Thurs. Night. I liked your format, you were so prepared and I was just thoroughly blessed. It was one of those lessons that encourages you to do more in the areas it addressed and also stirs you to want to study more. My God, I'm still revisiting some of the points you brought out and I'm finding numerous opportunities to apply what we received just in the few days that have passed.
I'm so proud of you, and so excited about how God is using you, can't wait to see what's next for you.

Tonight's study will be facilitated by one of our favorite bass players, and just the all-out kindest brother I know, BassbyGrace.
Most of you know BBG to be grounded, reasonable and wise, balanced by his timely sense of humor and use of scripture or anecdotes as appropriate. BBG is the proud husband of one beautiful wife, and they reside in northern MD with their lovely little girl, who puts herself to bed (making BBG and Mrs. BBG the envy of parents far and near). In addition to being one heckuva bass player (so I'm told), he apparently kills the tuba as well... since that's what they pay him to do in the Army. LOL! BBG's claim to fame is that he has attempted to eat a hamburger the size of a whole cow. :D (Maybe he'll put the pic back up for those of you who haven't seen it).
We're really expecting a great word from the Lord tonight, through his servant, BBG. Let's keep him in prayer as we go throughout our day.
By the way, BBG and his family are participating in a Leukemia walk to raise funds for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, and if you can, please support his efforts. Please visit his page at http://pages.lightthenight.org/md/Harford09/theedgelegacy# (http://pages.lightthenight.org/md/Harford09/theedgelegacy#). ;D

*Notes From Tonight's Lesson Below*
Title: Fruitful in the Kingdom
Speaker: BassbyGrace
Matthew 7:16-20; Genesis 1:27
Definition of Fruit: edible reproductive body of a seed plant - or, the effect of an action.
Definition of Fruitful: Abundantly productive.
The Bible speaks a great deal of bringing forth fruit and having fruits of the spirit.
You will know them by their fruit - in other words, you will know them by their Character. Character = action or behavior exhibited over a period of time.
Grapes have many different uses and represent edification. They are abundantly productive because they can be produced in various areas. Grapes are also good for you considering what they contain.
Throughout the Bible, fig is seen as one of the main fruits. It was one of the first plants to be cultivated by humans. When Adam and Eve first discovered they were naked, they covered themselves with fig leaves. Figs also contain a high level of antioxidants, meaning they are very good and edifying to the natural body.
The Fig is a fruit, but the flower grows inside instead of outside.
Thistles & Thorns = prickly and easy to cause pain/harm. The opposite of fruit.
There are different kinds of fruit. There are fruits of the spirit (Love, joy, long-suffering, temperance, self-control, etc.). These are found in Galatians 5:22.
We know an Apple Tree because it bears apples. The same for men - by their nature and principles, we know what manner of man they are. There is a correlation between fruit of the spirit and fruit of the natural realm.
Sweet water and bitter water can't run from the same fountain. Men are known by frequent actions that of their own will and by the course of their conversation. The true test of a man is not when things are going well, but when they are going bad - and when they are going bad, will you still exercise fruit of the spirit.
Main fruit = love.
When something is going wrong in our lives, maybe we need to look at our fruit.
Fruit is naturally edifying.
Large consumptions of salt makes one thirsty…if we are the salt of the earth, we should make others thirsty for Christ.
-
^ Please charge all mistakes to my head and not my heart. ;D
-
Thanks, Teej! Cuz I was mad I was missing out.
-
BBG: Bible Study was great! I enjoyed hearing that i need to be fruitful and multiply (<--not in children hahaha).
I especially enjoyed the discussion about the role the Holy Spirit has in helping us produce good fruit! The bible, in Matthew (3:8)talks about bringing forth fruits meet for repentance.. or show proof that you have repented. I am sure that without the Holy Ghost, we can not bring forth fruits (or prooof) meet for repentance, let a lone the several fruits of the spirit. That was indeed a blessing.
AND I almost gave God a praise when we were talking about the "salt"... my eyes were opened, i need to ask the Lord to help me be more savor-ish (whatever the word would be ?/?).
Since we are the salt of the earth, could this be why Lot's wife turned into a pillar of salt when she deliberately "looked back" at Sodom & Gomorrah? i thought about that last night and kinda chuckled on the inside. lol

Since we are the salt of the earth, could this be why Lot's wife turned into a pillar of salt when she deliberately "looked back" at Sodom & Gomorrah? i thought about that last night and kinda chuckled on the inside. lol
This is the type of preaching and teaching we need to hear more in the church about fruit. What is our life showing once we leave the building? The Bible says "a tree is known by the fruit it bears." In other words we are known by what we produce. That's why it saddens me when Ghandi (however you spell his name) says "I like your Christ, I don't like your Christians, they are not like your Christ" (something like that). Point is, if we claim Christ, Christ should show in our lives. Hate to have missed it last night! Good word!

SO TRUE!!!! this (in red) is why it's hard for good, believing, Holy Ghost filled Christians to compell men and women to Christ - people (unbelievers) are steady calling out what's not like Christ and who's being a hyporcrite (however you spell), they forget that it's not the "person" (and their faults or short comings) you should be looking at... people forget that it's THEIR soul that needs salvation! I know no one is perfect, and not every fruit you bear will be perfect/ripe, but the Holy Ghost helps A LOT! many "Chritians" lack the HG... it's a requirement for us to make it to heaven: he's the seal untill the day of redemption.... but doctrine has changed, the message has changed (GOD HAS AND WILL NOT CHANGE) and this is why i believe we have such a problem. :-\ :'(
-
Yeah, last night really WAS good. It's (another) one of those lessons that really make you examine yourself and take inventory of your life and fruit and productivity. I fell asleep thinking about it and woke up this morning thinking about it some more.
What am I producing? What am I giving birth to? What kind of tree am I? Do I nurture my "fruit" long enough for it to ripen before going off to fulfill its purpose? What am I multiplying?
Then of course, I'm asking myself is the fruit of the Spirit abundant and apparent in me? When people look at me (or listen to me or read me) do they see gentleness? Meekness? Temperance? Self-control? Do they see goodness? I know what I see in me, but what does everyone else see in me?
Anyway, yeah that was a very good one... thanks, BBG. You put out some big shoes for me to step into next week... lol.

That's a very good question. BTW, I think it was just Sodom she looked back on (not that it matters).
I loved the salt discussion, too. And TJ's sandwich story was excellent!

YES indeeeeed Larue... I also began thinking about a rose bush (I know they dont produce fruit, but buds produce a product of something lol)... but you know how a rose bush does not start off looking as beautiful as they do without a little pruning... (we can not produce the right fruit and be productive unless we are pruned.) pruning is sometimes a tedious journey, well benefitting the rose (<--belivers, you and I) in the end. Gardeners (God) prune roses to encourage new growth (FRUIT), eliminate mal-shaped buds (rotten, spoiled, UNRIGHTEOUS FRUIT) and, to maintain the effervescent beauty of a rose bush. The ultimate goal of pruning is to produce a centered plant that allows air and light to penetrate easily. Without light and air, a rose will fade away... and die...
MY LORD if you can see the analogy as i see it, where are we as believers? Are we getting enough light? are we kicking against the pricks and not heeding to the pruning of our saviour? Are we getting enough "light" and air? G-WIZ..... am i alone - do i have any witnesses? This thing makes me want to get on my knees for a prayer session... Psalms 51.... HERE I COME!
-
Yep. And that's what Dingster's scripture reference (John 15?) was talking about... the pruning part. I once taught about the pruning process and how much it hurts to have some things cut away from our lives, but how they help us to grow faster and healthier, making us MORE productive, MORE attractive, MORE effective, MORE useful... yeah, pruning hurts but it's essential to the pursuit of purpose and to achieving wholeness in Him.
A friend of mine once broke down the entire seeding, watering, growth, pruning, harvesting process.... it was RIDICULOUS!!!! I can't remember what I was doing (ushering?? office stuff??), but I didn't get to take notes. >:( It was SO good!

Good grief... well, we'll come out as pure gold if we allow the pruning process to make us better.... So..... help me Lord... dont help them! LOL! just kidding... we all need help Jeeeeesus!

Whatever, Rue. ::) It's gonna be great.
UNFORTUNATELY... (hope y'all don't put me out of the church, I swear I just made this connection this morning)
My pastor is speaking at a church on the outskirts of town, and I have to go sing/play, etc. PLEASE somebody record this study! I will join in as soon as humanly possible. I have to meet some people at the church at 6:30 (start time) to give them a ride, service starts at 7:00, they are usually not very long, but my pastor can be longwinded at times. I hope I catch y'all still on the line.

Are you serious???? :o :-[ :-\ >:( :'( But I was gonna ask you to be the "Amen Corner" captain. :-\ :-[ :'(
Seriously, sis, you gotta do better. This is starting to be a habit. >:(
Heifa.
----------------------
Ummm... on another note, I'm actively recruiting for a new ACCC (Amen Corner Council Captain) and a President of the Waving Hankies Auxiliary, as well as a reader.
If you're interested in being a part of the Amen Corner Council, please sign up in the vestibule (or vestiview, as some insist on calling it) immediately following Morning Worship Service. Remember, all those who occupy the Amen Corner must wear head coverings, pearls and pantyhose, and women on the Amen Corner Council should carry a lapcloth, which they won't need because their skirts will cover their knees anyway, but carry it for waving in case the Intercessory Team didn't pray hard enough and the Waving Hankies Auxiliary has attitude.

Girl, I am so mad about missing your night, I was tempted to ask to move it to a later time, but I see from the Nov Birthday incident I ain't got it like that, lol!

Since our usual Speaker introducer is actually the speaker tonight, I guess I'll do the honors...
"Laaaaaaaaaaaaadies and Gentlemen...."
Tonight's speaker is the incomparable, intelligent, well-versed, and dearly beloved LGM diva herself, LaRue1212 (also known as Ruetebega, Motheroo, and various other alias'). LaRue is a true scholar of the word, and currently resides in the city of MontLanta. She is a member of the Greater Kingdom Assembly where Greater life begins. The Greater Kingdom Assembly is a citadel of refuge. We invite you to lay aside every weight and bu-....
Oh, sorry. :-[
LaRue is a very well-spoken individual who's mere presence draws excitement, whether it be in the LGM chatroom, teleconference, or any other form of fellowship. She recently beat out Mother Bernice Jenkins for the "Best Announcement Reader" award, and has been a saved sanctified holy-ghost filled warrior for God since her teenage years. She is a true prayer soldier, and is well-planted in the ministries of mercy and love towards others. The anticipation surrounding her speaking tonight should prove enough to show just how esteemed her knowledge of the word is. We have no doubt that she has a mighty word in store for us tonight, and therefore we stand in grave anticipation, ready to receive.
You do not want to miss tonight as our dear sister, LARUE, brings forth the Word of God. GGFZ, I already feel a dance coming on.

Awesome intro, Teej! I was planning to give it a shot later, but you nailed it, bro! Somehow, someway I will catch this study. I think I will listen in on my way to the place so I will get to hear at least the first 30 - 40 mins. Yeah, that sounds good.

Nothing else going on this evening and I'm slightly curious... So I guess I'll listen in on today's discussion/talk.
I'll try not to clown in the chat room... just make sure you don't have any mic roaches like TJ did during his speech.

Don't worry...if you can't think of anything, you can just start talking about how we're getting ready to walk into our blessing and how God is getting ready to turn it around (whatever "it" is). ::)

Well, it's bad if you're trying to recover what God took away because you either didn't need it or it wasn't any good for you.

Yes Great Bible Study! Chat was great tonight even though I was shy as a bat with Nique COMMANDING me to speak....lol!
Why you gotta call me out like that! lol...
LA-PREACHIN'-NEW TESTAMENT-Rue.... 1. I'm glad you taught about riding through the storm and giving us the words your friend gave you... 2. I learned a lot.. I NEED to be proactive and use what i have to get through the storm. and 3. when you started talking about praise..... *______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________*
Finally, LaRue, if you have not already found your ring, I would like to share this with you (and anyone else who has lost something)... Based on the scripture in 2 Kings 6:1-7 concerning the son of the prophets going to Jordan; one of them dropped his borrwoed axe in the river and he and Elisha said, "where did it fall?" ... i've done this TWICE.. I lost a Disney watch my BF (at the time) gave me.. it was soo special to me, lol.. i lost it and was desperately looking for it... i knew i last saw had it in my room, so i went outside, got me a little twig, threw it in my room and waited to hear from the Holy Ghost to tell me, "look here." I waited and He spoke... "look under your dresser." I looked, felt around and there it was! I found my disney princess watch!!! The second instance: I lost a ring my grandmother left for me... you can imagine how important THAT was... that was priceless... i did not know WHERE i last had it, seen it, wore it... i just knew it was not on my pinky...threw another twig... and i found it...
So, I'll be waiting to hear your testimony is you have not found your ring!
"And the sons of the prophets said unto Elisha, Behold now, the place where we dwell with thee is too strait for us. 2 Let us go, we pray thee, unto Jordan, and take thence every man a beam, and let us make us a place there, where we may dwell. And he answered, Go ye. 3 And one said, Be content, I pray thee, and go with thy servants. And he answered, I will go. 4 So he went with them. And when they came to Jordan, they cut down wood. 5 But as one was felling a beam, the axe head fell into the water: and he cried, and said, Alas, master! for it was borrowed. 6 And the man of God said, Where fell it? And he showed him the place. And he cut down a stick, and cast it in thither; and the iron did swim. 7 Therefore said he, Take it up to thee. And he put out his hand, and took it."
sorry for the length
-
Thank you, sis. I appreciate that testimony! I am still hoping to find it (last night was so difficult for me between that and my Pastor's grandmother's passing). But, a good friend made me feel so much better about the ring. I'd still love to find it, but I'll be okay if I don't. It's a material possession, it's replaceable, and in this case, even its sentimental value can be replaced. I'll PM you the story on the ring and you'll get it... ;D
Anyway, just in case King Jesus is a-lis'nin, lemme make it plain: I still want to find my ring!!!! I'm just not stressing over it. LOL!

Thank you sister LaRue for the bible study lesson. It is indeed a blessing to me. Moreso thank you for organizing the Bible Study. Everyone can't do what you are doing. It is truly edifying the body when we can come together like that.
Be Blessed In Jesus Name.

Right now for personal reasons I don't go to bible study at church. I go to a bible study at school so this time we have is amazing!

Botha y'all hursh! The boy said "personal reasons." Is NOTHING sacred anymore? LOL!!! :D
Nah seriously, it could mean anything. Maybe his schedule was too tight and something had to get cut. Maybe he didn't have the gas money to make as many trips to church so something had to get cut. Maybe he has to babysit. Maybe he doesn't like the way it's taught and couldn't take it any longer. Maybe he opted to spend that time with his parents instead... I mean, the list of "maybes" can go on and on... the key is, it's personal. *shrug*
I don't go to Bible Study either. I could call my reasons "personal" or I could just tell you... *shrug*
:)

Right now for personal reasons I don't go to bible study at church. I go to a bible study at school so this time we have is amazing!

It was a joke, referring to this:

Ummm... on another note, I'm actively recruiting for a new ACCC (Amen Corner Council Captain) and a President of the Waving Hankies Auxiliary, as well as a reader.
I'm not sure why, but for years, I've heard folks pronouncing it as "vestiview" and I think it's pretty funny! :D :D :D :D

Tonight's lesson will be presented by one of our favorite newer members, Hasmonean1! If you've been around for any length of time, you've probably been blessed by his wisdom and insight. Bro. Hasmo is rooted and grounded in the Word, and is known to rightly divide the Word, adding scripture, in context, to complete thread topic discussions.
I don't know much about him, other than the fact that he is the husband of one wife, has a two-year old daughter that he adores, and resides in the Atlanta metropolitan area with his family. He has consistently held down the Amen Corner Council since our Bible Studies began, and he is often the first one to offer words of commendation and encouragement to the facilitators. He has a great sense of humor (evidenced by his recent exposure as a Kanye impersonator), and is a praying man of God who leads his family according to the Word of God.
To participate in the Study/Discussion, please log in to the LGM Chat Room and/or dial:

Don't forget your Bibles and notetaking instruments, and if you will be calling from a place with background noise, please be sure to mute your phone (if your phone has no mute function, you can dial *6 to mute and unmute).
Note: This call will be recorded.

Ohhhhhhh... and it's only 8:30 in your time zone, right? Danggg... that sucks. Well, if it's any consolation, we're usually there until about 10, your time. Maybe you can catch the end? Or you can just get the recording and listen... but I know it's not the same.

PTL Saints:
I owe you all such an apology, and especially you, Hasmonean. I've been a little distracted by ministry stuff and other stuff, and failed to post the recording info. I haven't ignored those who asked for it, just weren't focused on it at the time. I'm so deeply sorry. I don't like failure to follow through, so please accept my apology for not posting this last week.
Thank you for such a powerful word last week, Bro. Hasmo, and for your tact and grace when moderating the ensuing discussion. A couple of folks have already mentioned having to put some of the lesson into action, so it was definitely a useful word. I thank God for you and am looking forward to the next time you get the "mic." ;D
Cassette Tapes from last night's Bible Study are now available in the vestibule for a small contribution of only $25.00 nah, that was a valuable word, let's make it $55. ;D :D

It's the P to da T to da L-O-R-D, everybody!!!! lol! Sorry, I'm kinda giddy today. Well y'all, it's that day we've all come to love and look forward to!
PTL Saints! Tonight's lesson will be shared by one of the most powerfully anointed women of God I know, and one of LGM's favorite moderators, Nessalynn77! Nessa, also known as Vangela Miller, Mama Ness, or Sherlocc Homegirl (and a host of other nicknames I can't remember), represents the LGM community and the body of Christ well by being a fair, reasonable and unbiased moderator, and a wise, humble, and faithful woman of God. She lives a holy lifestyle, and is proudly set apart for the Master's use. She's also a card-carrying member of the SWAAGH Society. ;) :D :D
Nessalynn77 is a sincere woman of God, who loves the Lord, the people of God, her church, and the Word of God. A native of *ahem* Utah ::) :D she currently resides in Reno, Nevada, until the Lord sees fit to move her to her next place of residence, Atlantabama. ;D She is active in her church, serving in the Media Ministry, Music Ministry, Intercessory Ministry; teaching Bible Study, and traveling frequently with her church. I'm so honored to call her my sister, and blessed to call her my friend. Let's keep her in prayer today as she goes forth in Jesus' name and shares with us what He gives to her.

Don't make me break out my "Dr. Shine" voice. LOL!
Yeah I might be able to listen in.

Starting in just a few minutes. :)
-
Well guess I'll be the first to say that I REALLY enjoyed Bible Study. I've read Gal. 5:1 numerous of times. I've disussed the same things that were talkes about numerous of times. But tonight it really sunk(sp?) in. Not that I haven't enjoyed any other nights. But tonight really touched basis of where I am right now. And it also brought a few prophesies back to my rememberance. Soo... yeah, awesome job, Ness! LOL Britt loves you much! lol I WOULD say more about you, but it's all mushy stuff. And this medicine has kicked in. LOL
-
I agree with Britt. I loved it Nessa! That was awesome! Even though some of those points hit me hard about worrying, it was done in love and I appreciate that. I even shed a tear.... LOVED IT!
I am Free, Praise the Lord I'm Free.
-
Vangela Miller really brought a word last night!! That was so on-point and so on-time! I'm free, and I'm free indeed, and I'm STAYING free!!!!
Thanks, sis! Much love!
-
Glory to God! Thank you all for your encouraging words! Yeah, MM, I was crying for a second there, too. But that's normal for me, lol!
-
I just want to personally testify, if I may. Since the beginning, these Bible Studies have been such a blessing to me. I learned something from every last one of them, and am trying my best to apply the lessons to my life, so I can continue growing into a better me.
I'm grateful to God for blessing the body of Christ and LGM with such ministry gifts as LL, TJ, BBG, Hasmonean, and Nessa. You have all been such a huge blessing to me personally! I also thank God for all of you who contribute either online or over the phone. The discussions are usually as beneficial for me as the lessons themselves are. You guys have all offered such valuable input that I have to give you credit for helping me out! Thanks NJ, Virtue, Jonathan, B Minus, Churchy, U13, BFBT, MM04, Britt, Koda, and anyone else I may have forgotten. I love you and appreciate the Lord for you!
Cycle 1 is behind us, and I'm looking forward to the next cycle with great anticipation!!! Let's keep TJ in prayer as he prepares to share next week! To God be the glory for what He's done. I'll post the November schedule in a minute.
-
Praise the Lord, you blessed me as well sister Vangela. It is always a blessing when we can come together and share God's Word then grow thereby. Thank you very much for letting the Lord use you in such a powerful and awesome way.
God Bless

And to everyone else waiting on the recording, I have three words for you:
Aye.

If you missed the last Bible Study, and would like a cassette tape ( :D) you may Download the mp3 (http://www.instantconference.com/Recordings/ConferenceRecording-813875-952947.mp3) here.
(My sincerest apologies for not posting them sooner. I may have to delegate this to someone else as ADD makes it difficult for me to do tasks like this. Again, my apologies. As a result of not downloading them immediately after, the conference hosting service deleted the previous recordings. I'm so sorry. Anyone want to volunteer to take this over?)

We will resume on Thursday, 12/3 at 9:30p, with Bro. BBG facilitating.
The Lord bless you!

In the chat room and on conference call. The number and code for the conference call is in the first few pages. Someone will probably post it in chat when we start, I just don't feel like searching for it right now, lol.
-
oh ok.....i was just wondering.
dimdim.com + ustream.tv is a better combination.

Talk to Rue, she's the one who got it together... and you know she's not as hip to the game as you are, lol. But we 'Preciate her though! ;)
-
Well yeah I'm definitely not hip at all, but we didn't go with ustream for more practical reasons: not everyone agreed to (or was/is equipped to) do this via videochat. :)
-
It's Thursday.... :)
-
Man, I'm havin innanet issues. I'll try to get it together by tonight. My air card is on probation, because of my overage problems, so I can't use it until the next bill cycle. I'll probably go to my office to be there.

Dimdim will allow you to have people call into the conference via phone, and record it. If you normally have less than 20 people, this would be good, since it's free.

No. *Insert straight-face smiley here*... or I'll just BBIM it to you, lol.

What's the difference with Dimdim?

We can't do video if the facilitator doesn't agree to use a webcam or if s/he doesn't have one...
I was willing to set it up by video (I think we discussed that back around page 3-4), but personally, I wouldn't use a webcam myself when it's my turn to facilitate. I prefer being able to facilitate with my hair a mess, mask on my face, wearing a t-shirt with holes and shorts. :D :D :D :D

It was about getting your first love back and not being so weighed down and burdened about things....distractions...anxieties...pe ople, but getting a hold of who is needed most..JESUS, putting Him first, giving Him the quality time that He is deserved...whew! quickened my spirit :)
Anyway Nessa and Larue it's really REALLY good to see you guys posting again! :)

If you took notes (or borrowed your mom's notes), I'm sure you could share with us what you learned. C'mon girl, some of us are hungry!!!
And thanks, it's good to be back, and it's a blessing to be missed.

NEW POLL!
Please be sure to take the new poll, so we'll know whether to plan for Bible Study next week or in the near future.
Thanks!
-
In the first poll to determine what time we'd do Bible Study, we had 23 voters.
Can we get a few more votes so I'll know whether to proceed for this week, please?
Oh, and some more volunteers to teach would be great, too. Please. ;D

Okay, so it looks like everybody (or at least four somebodies) is ready to resume our LGM Weekly Bible Study and Discussion!
<<insert wild cheering, clapping, jumping, cartwheels, and "real" shouting>>
Okay, okay everybody, calm down.
First up on the (tentative) schedule will be LGM's coolest dude, our very own (you know people always say that when they introduce a member of the church :D :D), Junior Deacon SirTJ, who may not actually be that cool, but he SURRRRRRRRE knows the Word and can rightly divide it, too! Don't let his age fool ya. ;) If you don't know, you'll find out next Thursday, March 4th.
The following week, Thursday, March 11th, our very own Vangelamilla (that's Nessalynn77, also known as Solomonessa because she's wise enough to be Solomon's twin... ya know, if she was a little older :-\ ;D :D). Sis. Nessa will be bringing forth the word with clarity and conviction, as she always does.
On Thursday, March 18th, if he agrees (which I know he will unless he has a prior engagement, which will just have to be cancelled because this is more important anyway), our very own Lover of the Lord - or Lordluvr - will be breaking down the breakdown of the Word! :D If you've ever been in one of the studies he's facilitated, you already know that this brother's knowledge of the Bible is massive, but the delivery of his lesson is simple, clear, and easily edible by young and old.
On Thursday, March 25th, Under13 will be... LOL!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!! just kidding. That would be hot though... but I know he'd say no. He'd actually say something else before the "no" but this here is a Christian site, so I'll just leave it at that. LOL! :D :D :D
Nah seriously, anyone wanna volunteer for March 25th?
Bible Study and Discussion is held every Thursday at 9:30 p.m. EST, and anyone is welcome to attend and participate. To participate, you can either call, log into LGM chat, or do both.

Lawd, these 2010 saints will volunteer you in a minute, won't they....
...I do have something to say, though. ;D
-
Aw, I'm going to miss it next Thursday cause I'll be in DE. :( Are you going to post recordings again?
-
Ughhhh!!! Dangit. I forgot to bold U13's name and date... >:(
Now would be a good time for a mod to make good use of his powers. :D

I do, but it won't matter if I end up going to one of the evening classes.
-
Not trying to threaten anyone or anything, but YALL BETTER BE AT BIBLE STUDY TONIGHT!!! Can pack out a doggone conference acting all crazy, but can't make your way out to Bible Study. These 2010 Saint, I tell ya...
I kind of struggled with this lesson, but I think I've managed to crank something out (think because I haven't actually written anything down). It won't be a long lesson, unless the Lord sees fit, so our A.D.D. and O.D.D. saints need not fear.
-
I hope Nessa and Hasmo will be holding down the "Amen Corner." :D :D :D
I'll be there with bells on. Looking forward to it!!!
And I, too, hope everyone attends! We have some pretty good discussions, usually. ALL ARE INVITED! :)
-
My church has the beginning of the month consecration, with prayer beginning at 6 pm, so I'll probably be late. My apologies in advance, Teej. I will be there just as soon as I can.
-
I'll be in the numba! After my church Bible Study. ;D
Umm.. I think I wanna.........
Nevermind. :D

Ladies and Gentlemen, the Lord sho 'nuff works in mysterious ways! Late in the midnight hour, God has turned this thing around! As of this moment, Sister Brit Brat will be teaching tonight's lesson! Please be prepared to give her your undivided attention. ;D

Great job teej and rue
Oh wow, thanks. *shrug* I was just a participant. LOL
-
Thank you brother TJ for the lesson. I came in late but received a good portion. "It's not about us, but it's about Jesus". That song is still ringing in my head. Stay encouraged in The Lord brother.
-
Even though I fell asleep :-[ (blame a huge dose of Nyquil) it was great. Those questions also caused me to do some thinking. You got a great gift Teej.
-
Sorry I missed it. I spent forever trying to fix a computer-related problem. I know you did well. Can't wait to listen to the re-broadcast....It WAS recorded, wasn't it?
-
It wasn't recorded, but Koda saved the transcript from chat and a lot of notes were posted there so that...
Wait. Koda, you DID save the transcript, didn't you?
---------------------------------------------------------
TJ spoke mainly from Genesis 39 (story of Joseph). His subject was "Two Questions that Changed My Life." The resounding theme (for me) was having faith (which is believing that God is who He says He is and that He will do what He says He will do) even when things don't look like the way we expect them to look. In Joseph's case, he knew he was called to greatness, but when he looked around him, the setting didn't match the script. Wow. I really got a lot from that because I have a notebook full of promises and prophecies and dreams and visions and things that I know came from God, and when I look around, I'm like... ummmm... this sure doesn't look like that... are you sure, Lord? lol.
The two questions were (I think someone's going to have to help me with the second one. I'm at work and I don't have my notes)...
Ugh. I just tried to type #1, which I remember very clearly, but I can't get the words right. Ugh. Anybody remember or have their notes? Teej?
-
Teej, I'm sorry I missed it, bro. I was sure looking forward to the recording. If someone wants to step in and take next Thursday, speak up. I don't like showing up to teach, when I didn't show up to receive...
Prayer for the beginning of the month consecration was at the same time as bible study last night, and not a single solitary soul showed up! So I prayed and God was in the place, and as I was closing my pastor walked in... we sat and talked for a good while. I think he needed to talk some things out, so I was glad to be available. As a result, though, I missed bible study.
-
Alright, here are some of the notes:
Subject: Two Questions That Changed My Life
Question 1: What would someone who is exactly like you and exactly where you are do if they were absolutely confident that God was with them? (asked by Andy Stanley)
Text: Genesis 39 - 47 (we paraphrased and skipped around a bit. We pretty much went through Joseph's story).
- Believing God is with you doesn't "make" Him there. He's always been there, but problems and things in life can make us blind to the fact and cause us to act in ways that reflect the fact that we don't really believe He is there. We often times miss God. Only when we expect it do we experience it. Only when we look for Him and His hand in the situation do we find Him.
- This is bigger than we realize, because when you're totally confident in the FACT that God is with you, what do you fear? Who do you fear? What is their to worry about? God is the greatest power?do we still view Him that way? Or has He become just another factor in our trivial life?
- Potiphar, a powerful political force, purchased Joseph from his slave owners (the Ishmeelites). Having such a po- werful force as his master spelled doom for Joseph, but Genesis 39:2 gives us the game changing factor of it all: "And the Lord was with Joseph, and he was a prosperous man, and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian".
Not only that, but this factor shined so brightly in Joseph, that the next verse tells us this?
"And his master saw that the Lord was with him, and that the Lord made all that he did to prosper in his hand."
When you are fully convinced that God is with you, during life's mountaintops and even during life's valley lows, when things are going great and when all hell is breaking loose?when you are fully convinced that God is with you, whatever your lot may be (because He is) it becomes evident in the way you walk, the way you talk, and most importantly in the way you react. It's the light that sits on the hill of your life?it can't be hidden. Others notice. And when they notice, they take heed to it. Potiphar, with all of his political prowess and power, took heed to the evidence that God was with Joseph and therefore placed confidence in Joseph, causing Joseph to rise among the ranks of the estate and become an elite member of Potiphar's household.
Trouble arose for Joseph again after Potiphar's wife tried to get Joseph to sleep with her. Joseph refused causing the wife to slander him. Potiphar, of course, believed his wife and thus sent Joseph to prison. It pretty much should be over for Joseph at this point, right?
Take a moment and think about how Joseph must've felt. God promised him he would be prince and a ruler?and here he is in prison. As loyal as he's been to God, and it seems as if God has just been playing one big joke on him. That's often how we feel, isn't it? As loyal as we've been, it seems as if God is in the sky just getting one big kick out and watching us play a game of cat and mouse.
But theres that one game changing factor again: Genesis 39:21 = "And the Lord was with Joseph?"
Make a long story short, things worked out in Josephs favor to the point where Pharaoh needed a favor from him (interpret one of his dreams). Joseph obliged and, because of such, was made ruler over Egypt, second only to Pharaoh himself. God promised to make Joseph a ruler despite the fact that it appeared humanly impossible for a Hebrew slave to be an egyptian ruler, but God made good on his promise. Joseph's dream was fulfilled. When all hell was breaking loose, Joseph could have easily given up?fallen into depression?thrown in the towel?turned his back on God thinking God had betrayed him?but he didn't.
Why?
Because he was a man that was confident of the fact that God was with Him. Through the good and the bad.
Joseph had faith. The most simple definition of faith I've ever heard = confidence that God is who He says He is and that He'll do what He says He'll do.
When things in life look hectic, it's not a sign that God is absent, but a sign that He is ACTIVE. The simple definition of faith = believing God is who He says He is and that He'll do what He says He will do. That's the purest form of worship...when you have nothing to hang your faith on except the character and person of God. No signs, no dreams, no prophecies - just who God is and what He said He'll do.
Question 2: Do you love God because He makes much of you, or do you love God because, through His son, He has freed you to make much of HIM? (asked by John Piper)
Texts:
Ephesians 1:5-6
Having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us accepted in the beloved.
Isaiah 43:7
Everyone who is called by my name, whom I created for my glory, whom I formed and made.
Romans 15:8-9
For I tell you that Christ has become a servant of the Jews on behalf of God's truth, to confirm the promises made to the patriarchs so that the Gentiles may glorify God for his mercy as it is written, "Therefore I will praise you among the Gentiles; I will sing hymns to your name".
2 Corinthians 5:15
And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again.
The common theme = God's glory. Christ was sent to die a horrific death to free us from bondage, not so we could spend our life making much of ourselves, glorifying our name and seeking the spotlight for ourselves, but so that we would spend life making much of HIM.
Being concerned about what other people think of you is something that should cease, because you're not here to make much of your reputation. You're not here to make your name glorious and fabulous. You're here to make much of God. So it doesn't matter what they say or think about you, because it's not about you?it's all about Him. It's all about making much of Him. Making a big deal out of God.
Living this way should effect our prayer life. When we pray, often times we pray telling God, "God, I want you here, but not here. I want your help and advice here, but I'm gonna handle this part over here by myself. You can take over here, but I'm gonna do my own thing over here?". This is a co-pilot image of God. Prayer is not a session for God to give you advice. Living this kind of life where you love God because He's freed you to make much of Him means, when you pray, you give God a blank check. You will be done in EVERY area. Even those ares I think I have under control. Even in those areas where I kind of know what I should do, but it goes against what I want to do. Even in those ares where I'm afraid to ask your will be done because I know or I fear you're going to make me do something or go somewhere I really don't want to go. A blank check?in EVERY are of your life. This is the only way to hear from God. When He is at the center of it all. "God doesn't just want to answer our questions during prayer, he wants to speak into our entire life. Sometimes you don't need to ask God for something, you just need to know something. Be still and know that I am God." (-Quote by Andy Stanley).
The other day on LGM, I posted a topic and posed a question. I asked, why is it that in life, when you want something to happen it never happens. When you're looking for something, often times you can't remember where you placed it. When there's a certain person you would love to see, you never see them. Things don't happen until that moment when you put it out of your mind. When you're not looking for that item, that's when it pops up overtime you turn around. When you're not expecting something, that's when it shows up. When you've totally put that job hunt out of your mind, that's when the job offers begin rolling in. Why is this so?
I thought about it for about a week, and I don't claim to have the perfect, correct answer, but I believe that one of the reasons this occurs so frequently is because God won't allow us to use Him as a means to anything. When those things we seek remain in the forefront of our mind, they find themselves in a spot that belongs to God. He belongs in the forefront of our minds, but often times we allow these things to take his place?and the longer they stay there, the more they grow until they become fully fledged idols. Then getting rid of them is a bigger burden than it should be because first we must become apt to the fact that we've fallen into idolatry, and that's always the hardest part. Realizing and, most of all, admitting that you've fallen into idolatry is the hardest part of it. Then comes the point where we must fight to break free from this addiction. It's like a cycle. And it all starts when we attempt to use God as a means to an end. The end is receiving whatever it is we seek or desire and the means is God. We use Him to get to that thing.
But when those things cease to be a concern to us, God can trust our ability to be disconnected enough that the threat of idolatry ceases. We show him that, while the thing is important to us, it's never important enough for us to obsess over, thus falling into idolatry. It's never important enough to replace His reign in the forefront of our minds. Our goal in life remains to make much of Him?so even if He doesn't give us what we want, as long as he equips us to make much of Him, that's sufficient enough. Great faith = great surrender.

No. I came in. Forgot it was Bible Study. Starting going on about boys. Was reminded that it was Bible study. Hung around. Ya'll started chatting about the prophetess or whomever that Britt talked about and then I left.

I felt like a lost puppy. Didn't know what was going on and who was there. Why didn't you say something?
Is there an orientation class for us newbies who don't have a clue? LOL!

That's pretty huge coming from you two; thanks. :)

j/k Jonathan :D
And yes, we have an orientation class. It requires you to read all 20 pages of this thread and come back next Thursday at 9:30p EST/8:30p CST. :D :D :D

Elder Smith? Yeah, we go back a few years. :D :D :D :D

Thank you very much for the lesson LaRue. It was indeed a blessing.
I've always loved bible study and sunday school (save the few years in high school when I thought I was too grown for it ;D) however I didn't stray far from it because I got back in line during my college years.

I'm bringing this back up in an effort to recruit more facilitators... is anyone interested in leading our weekly Bible Discussion one Thursday night? Thusfar, we've had the same 5 instructors (TJ, Nessa, Hasmo, LL, me, and BBG), and I'd hate for folks to get tired of hearing the same folks week after week... plus, I don't want the facilitators to get tired of leading.
PLUSSS.... I know the Lord has dropped something valuable in YOUR spirit (yes, YOU) to share with the rest of us. You share with us day after day on the message board; why not share with us on a Thursday night, say around 9:30p EST? ;D
If you interested, OR if there's someone you want to nominate to teach, you can reply to this thread, PM me or text me.
Oh, and the rules for nomination are simple: if you get nominated, you have to teach. No ifs, ands, or buts about it. We will come to your house and force you if we must.

Who's coming? ;D
-
I'll be out again tonight. Hopefully, I can get in before it ends.
-
I'll be there. Tonight is the only night I DON'T have a service to play for this week. The joy bells of my soul are still ringing from last weeks message, so I'm excited to hear what's in store tonight from Vangela Miller a.k.a. MOTHER WISDOM!!!!
Also, be sure to stay for the after-party in the chat room. :D
-
I'll be there...
-
Lots of homework and studying to do tonight. I will probably miss bible study but get in on the after chat party.

Now those are some interesting priorities... lol.
-
What a fantabulous discussion last night!!!!!
Afterchat was good, too...
Yes!!! I'm pursuing excellence; and I'm pursuing PEACE!!! I'm keeping my mind stayed on God! Oh yeahhhh... I'm going somewhere!
-
And mediocracy is unacceptable at any degree...praise Him!

...And so is mediocrity! LOL!

Indeed.
-
Oh my fault.
-
Actually, if it makes you feel better, mediocracy IS a word... it's just not what you meant to say. ;) It means just what it sounds like: a government ruled by a mediocre people. Now don't ask me if this is a reality as opposed to a concept, but it is a real word. *shrug*
Hey. Ya learn somethin new erry day, huh? :D :D :D
-
Well thank you very much for that info!
-
Yooooo....who teaching tonight?
-
OMG. I so totally forgot. :-[
I'm in bed taking a nap and just felt an urge to grab my bb and check LGM.
Ummm yeah, so who's teaching tonight? It's a guy's turn. We had two women in a row. Hasmo? Teej? BBG? Jerod? LL? Who'll it be???

Maybe we can go old school. Remember when we first started Bible Study in Y!Church, someone would just throw out a topic of discussion and we'd work from there.
Just a thought. Lord knows I have enough questions to stir a conversation or two. :D :D
-
Praise God for that solution. I'm really not up to it tonight but I'm going to be faithful...
Okey dokey saints, we have a plan! If anyone has any particular subjects you think would make for a good discussion, please post them here or PM, email or text me. Gracias!

I can do it tonight. I'll be out of town next week if it's the Lord's will.
-
Ummm where ya'll be at?
-
I'm on the call, but :( I can't get into chat....
I don't know why I listen to people. I knew I shouldn't have installed that stupid YIM on this computer. Ugh.

I forgot I'm taking this Finance Management class one Thursday a month... last week, not only did I forget about Bible Study until someone mentioned it, I also forgot my Finance class altogether. Didn't even realize it until the next day when someone posted on our FB page. *oops*
Anyway, Bible Study. This Thursday. April 1st. 9:30p EDT. 8:30p CDT. 6:30p PDT.
Who's in?
And who's teaching? ;D
-
Oooh! I think I'm there! It's been a busy life the past few weeks, but I think I'm there for Thursday... not to teach though... maybe Teej's discussion suggestion? I'm up for a good bible discussion.
-
Ummmm I have a topic...

I've got some stuff on my mind, but I haven't studied it yet. So, I'll volunteer for an upcoming session.

And, don't try to flip it, either. I ain't da one.

I'll post it when I get a min.

Ain't no way I'll be ready by tonight.

Didn't miss it; ignored it. :D

:D
-
Okay so tonight we're going to do something a little different for Bible Study.
We'll discuss a topic (or knowing us, a few topics... lol) in an open forum manner.
Bible Study. 9:30p EDT/8:30p CDT/6:30p PDT. Be there. Or be square.
-
And when we say discuss, we mean EVERYONE discuss...not just a four-way conversation between me, Rue, Hasmo, and Vangela...
:D
-
And when we say discuss, we mean EVERYONE discuss...not just a four-way conversation between me, Rue, Hasmo, and Vangela...
:D
I declare I was gonna say that... LOL!!! After a while, it feels like the VangeLaTeejMo Show. :D :D :D
And though I hate to admit to this publicly, sometimes you guys make me feel like I *have to* speak up... I really feel a lot of pressure to contribute to the convo, when most of the time, I just don't feel like it. I do it because I feel like I have to. It would relieve a lot of pressure if others participated as well. Thanks. ~Concerned Citizens for a Better LaRue
-
What if you really don't have anything to say??? Lol.
-
You could start by telling us your topic, @absentmindedBrittany :D
I'll be along just after 7 pm, hopefully it won't be too late. I have to lead prayer from 6 - 7:00 and then I want to go home instead of logging on at the church. I'll probably call in on my way home.
-
See thats why I don't like talkin to nuna yall!! :-p
-
I think I'd rather have a lesson on this then have a discussion. But it was how do you maintain your victory (I don't think maintain was the word I wanted to use though). But yeah that was my "topic", I guess. :-\
-
I thought you said you were only joking and didn't have a topic? :-\ ?/? ::)
And you maintain your victory by telling the Lord yes and telling your flesh no, and meaning them both.
-
Thanks to BW for reminding me that today is Thursday. Funny but all day today, I was thinking it was Wednesday, so imagine my delight when I realized that tomorrow is Friday!!! Whewww... looking forward to that Sabbath rest! LOL
Okay, so who's in? Are we hitting the Word tonight?
-
Tomorrow is Bible Study night(9:30pm eastern). Who's teaching? Any volunteers? There is indeed a Word from the Lord.
Come
Share
Edify, In Jesus Name.
-
I'll be in the midst of a Jurisdictional women's convention, so after my workout and shower, that's where I'll be the rest of the night. :(
Apparently my Thursdays are only free sporadically.
-
I think that since the general interest level seems to have declined, we should consider nixing this.
Either that, or perhaps commit to a certain "minimum participation number" and proceed with the discussion only when there are xx number of people present.
-

I like that idea the best.
-
I like that idea the best.
What's the "minimum" number you'd recommend?
-
What's the "minimum" number you'd recommend?
between 5 and 7.
-
I like that 7 when it comes to things pertaining to the bible but I believe 5 would be most realistic at this point.
-
I think 5 is a good number. I plan on participating more as my schedule has eased a bit.
-
Ok so it sounds like 5 is the magic number. We'll start tonight at 9:30p EDT (8:30p CDT, 6:30p PDT) at 218.936.7999, 727990# and/or in the chat room. If we don't have 5 ppl by 9:35p EDT, we'll cancel for tonight and try again next week.
Hope to see you there, and please remember there's no one person in charge, and we're always open for topic ideas and volunteers to present/facilitate a discussion.
-
I'll be in the numba!
-
Bible Study tonight 9:30 pm eastern. Will you help us get at least five?
Lord spare the dismissal of the fellowship peradventure there be 5 among them.
We'll be looking for you there In Jesus Name.
-
I've got a softball game this evening. I'll be around when I get home. Hopefully, the faithful are there.

I'd be honored to do it.
-
Praise Jesus. We're gonna need someone to hold down the Amen Corner and offer discussion questions and/or commentary. Rue isn't feeling well today. :-[
-
Dang, missed it again. After my regular workout, I had a nutrition class. Hope you guys got your numbers to at least have the discussion.
-
I missed it too, unfortunately. My CS explains why.
-
I have an idea for the upcoming bible study (Thursday 9:30 pm Eastern). Why don't we all come up with some situation or scenarios and present it to everyone else. Then the others would take a few minutes to find scriptures that would relate to what is presented. After sharing what scriptures we found, then we could express practical ways of handling the situation or scenario.
Let me know if this is acceptable.
-
Now taking reservations for Bible Study. Get Yo slot while it's hot!!!!!!!
-
I meant to reply to these several times in the past day or two and kept forgetting.
But yeah, I'm down for whatever. :)
-
lol, i actually typed a reply at least once before, too. I'll be in a meeting, so I likely won't be there. I really hope it's still going when I have a free Thurs
-
Sooo what's going on with this thang right here?! ?/?
-
I think people lost interest. :-\
-
I'm still interested. I just haven't been available for a few Thursdays. Weird, because that's normally a free day for me.
-
I haven't. Neither has Hasmo, he's ALWAYS there on Thursdays waiting... :-\
-
Ok.. so obviously Thursdays are no longer working out. Maybe we shouldl do a new poll?!
Or some people may just need to be reminded.... idk.
-
I'm still interested. Our LGM Bible Study has been very useful and helpful for me, personally.
But like the rest of us, I have my own church and work and other interests, so I can't really take the time to push people to come.
But I don't know if Thursday is the problem. If you recall, a few months ago (I think February or March?) I did another poll asking who was still interested. The participants were way fewer than the first vote, and of the few who said they were still interested, even FEWER actually show up on Thursdays.
Again, I'm definitely interested and still down for whatever, but I can't take on a whole advertising and recruiting and evangelizing campaign to get people there. LOL

:D I feel ya! I work some Thursday nights soo.... IDK.

Thursdays used to be a good day for me, too, but lately every night has been crowded with something or other...
-
Awwwww... .preeeeeeeh-eh-eh-shus mem reeees!
How they linger....
:'(
-
Ah yes, back when we were saved for real.
-
By the way everybody, tonight is our first annual FAMILY AND FRIENDS night!
WOW!! We used to be SO SERIOUS about this! :D :D :D
LOL!

My first biography. :D :D :D
SMH, where did we lose it, Lord?....*walks out singing "These Are the Times"*
-
:D
Yeah, we were serious.... and we kept that joint going for a minute, too. We should do one just for old times' sake.
-
LOL I still have my notes from the night I had it. Yeah, we had some sho nuff bible study. I remember LaRue had it set up so you felt like you was walking out to the congregation on the the phone LOL!

I remember your topic (a little bit).... you talked about the fruit. I remember because you later told me my fruit was rotten. :D
-
Let's do it. I need another dip...
-
Are you volunteering to teach? And will a Thursday night still work for everyone?
-
Tuesday and Thursday are best for me.
-
I love bible study, and will be there whenever.
-
I play basketball on thursday
-
Depending on the time, Thursday may work for me.
-
Thursday works for me too! :)
-
SMH!
Anyways, whenever is fine for me. We're doing this on skype, right?
If yall are talking about this week I can't make it. If anything, I'll probably catch it later that night.
-
Sadly, Thursday no longer works for me. I only have Mondays and Wednesdays.
-

I only have Mondays and Wednesdays.
:-|
Uh oh.
-
:-|
Uh oh.
Haha. See, I can do Tuesdays, but it'd be after 7:30 my time... which is pretty late for some of you.
-
Are we talking about doing this on the regular? Or just one time? Because if it's the latter, I'm not in school...so really any day works for me (barring the weekends).
-
I was thinking a one-time thing, but if y'all wanna do it on the regular, I'm still fine with that... I always enjoyed our discussions. A lot. :)
Why don't we try to nail down one date for now, and then cross the 'on the regular' bridge when we get to it.
I gotta say Monday & Wednesday is whack... :D Don't most people have Bible Study on Wednesday?
What does everybody think about next Wednesday, July 18th? Does that work for you or do you have BS at your church?
-

I swear I had to do a triple-take at this. You might want to rephrase... :D :D :D
I think the 18th might work, but that's around the time I'll be making final preparations to move out of my apartment, so I'm not 100% sure.
-
Well heck, how am I supposed to rephrase it now that you've quoted it? ::)
UGH!!!
Get your mind saved, you know what I meant doggonit! >:(
Should we go for the following Wednesday, 7/25?

I was about to make the :o face, but I just remembered that you actually joined us once before!!! I had almost forgotten. That was such a great night. You are an atmosphere changer. A thermostat, as opposed to a thermometer. I sure hope you can make it!!

Yay, my momma is coming! Who's the teacher?

Nah, you know you won't be able to listen and not chime in something... and even if you find the strength to do so, we won't letcha! :P :D

Oh snap. I was thinking I'm glad I'm not the teacher, momma would make me nervous, lol. But I'll do it. I need to be doing more studying anyway.

C'mon! You are more than able. I've learned so much from you over the years. I'm even more motivated to dial in Wednesday. ;D I've gleaned from "Layla", now I can dine at your table. I'm getting all giddy! :D :D

Hi guys,
Is it possible to share the transcript here after the session?
Unfortunately I can't make the time for various reasons: +2GMT , already in bible class everyday after work for 3 hours this month, but will join someday :)
I love you guys..Keep the flames burning..
-
LaRue used to make the session downloadable... Maybe she can do that again.
-
Yeah there's a way to record it for playback. I'll see if I can remember or find the instructions. I'll do my level best to make it available to those who cant participate.
LOL @ level best. *churchy*
-
Works for me. :)
-
Yay!!!!
I'm excited! So far we have Nessa (facilitating), Teej (hopefully), me, BBG, and a possible appearance by SisT, the ever faithful Hasmo, LL, Britt... who else is in? Let us know so we can save you a seat!
Also, what do y'all think about doing it via Skype (for chat) or Google+ for video conference? We talked about that at our reunion last week but didn't really have BS/BT in mind at the time.
-
I'll be there! I WOULD say try Skype, but Skype be trippin' sometimes.
-
Yay Britt!!!
I'm gonna go look into the Google+ thing right now and see what's up.
-
Google+ Hangouts is WAYYYYYY cool.
Wow. I just checked it out. We should totally do that. Especially if we have 10 or fewer people. We should TOTALLY do it. It's way cooler than Skype. Seriously people.

(ff to 1:45 or so to see the actual interaction stuff... it's so cool).

Yep.

Yep.
Mmm...
-
I didn't see my name on the list of attendees, but I'm down. I have a google + account but have never used it for video chat. Looking forward to it.

What do you mean? Your name is there. It was always there. I didn't go back and add it in. It was always there. It was there and you just overlooked it. It was there all along. Yep. Sure was.
*shrug*
yeah, I've never used it for video chat either, but I'm quite excited!!!!

Just checked my conference schedule.......I'M IN!!!!!! Looking forward to Wednesday's meal.
-
WooHOOOOOOOO!!!!!! Wait, LL, SisterT, and Hasmo all in the same room??? We got all the Bible-scholar-heavy hitters in attendance... this is gonna be SOOOOOO good!!!
-
Just want to make sure everyone is cool with doing BS/BT through Google+ Hangout for this Wednesday's Bible Study/Bible Talk. I checked it out last week and it's extremely easy. I don't think you even have to install anything.
I think it'll be much cooler and easier than trying to use Skype. Depending on what those who are interested want, we can do the Google+ and the conference call line for those who can't get online or don't want to.
Any opinions?
-
I don't mind using Google +, but how can we all know what everyone is saying if some use Google and some use the conference call?
-

Good point.
I wonder if Google has an option to type-chat in addition to the video chat, that way the ones who don't want to video chat can just type-chat. I guess. Idk. Ideas?

Or.... someone could put it on speaker phone? But I'm not sure how the quality of sound would be.

Go with what works, the conference call.
-
I'm down for giving Google+ a try. I'm not sure how the conference call addition would work.
-
I'm down for giving Google+ a try. I'm not sure how the conference call addition would work.
Yeah, I hate the conference call thingies.
-
The thing is with Skype and, I'm assuming, Google+, you can keep a pretty good record of whose talking and what not. The conference call can get a bit hectic at times. Maybe just the main speaker can be on the conference call and Google+ while the rest of us are just on Google+? Then those without internet access can still hear the Prophetess break bread.
-

I agree with my future hubby! lol

Let me make sure you're saying what I think you're saying (because I think you're saying exactly what I was trying to say earlier... lol).
Nessa is on the conference call AND Google+. The rest of us are on Google+. The anonymous people (like ___________, whose name I won't mention... lol) can just call in and not say a word, protecting their anonymity. The ones who don't have internet access (which group doesn't even exist considering this is LGM, which requires internet access... lol), can also just call the conference line.
So everyone on Google+, conference line available only for those who can't/won't do Google+. Correct?
-
What is the fascination with Google+, again?
-
What is the fascination with Google+, again?
Not so much fascination... but usually when we chat together, we do so in Skype (or formerly, YIM). The last time we were in Skype, a few people commented that it would be nice if we could do video chat. But Skype doesn't have free video chat for groups. Google+ does. I remember having similar discussions when TJ did a video thing where we could see him but he couldn't see us... it was like a lecture-style video. A few people commented then that it would be cool to do something like that for our regular chats.
Also, I don't remember exactly what the comments were, but I do remember that when we used to do BS/BT, the people who would facilitate all said [pretty much] the same thing: we were surprised at how much more difficult it was to teach/facilitate over the phone than in person or with a visual. I think all of us thought it would be easier to do it over the phone, but it really wasn't.
So it's not so much a fascination... just responding to people's interests. It's all voluntary as it stands, so anyone who doesn't want to video chat won't be forced to, and will still be able to hear the lesson/talk and respond with questions or input.

Works for me.
-
Count me in. I have Google+ but I have no idea how to connect with you guys or anyone else. :-\
-
It'll be my first time, too, Vonne. I suggest those who can, log on a few minutes early to knock out any kinks or learning curves. I'll probably be on around 9 or so.
-
BUMP!!! Tomorrow's the night!
I'll post the Google+ instructions and call-in info tomorrow morning. Get your Bibles and notepads and pens ready!

So do I have to use my computer? I was hoping to be able to use my iPhone. I won't have a computer on tomorrow (still out of town). Text me with whatever info I need---purr-ty Pluheeeeezzzzeee with brown sugar on top. ;D

I'll be more than happy to text you! I'll do it tomorrow when I bump this thread with the instructions.
You can use your iPhone for the Google+ chat or if you'd rather just call and listen, you can do that too. Totally your choice.

Okay, thanks so very much.

Tonight is the night!!! WooooHOOOOOO!!!!
LGM Bible Study/Discussion tonight, facilitated by Our Very Own, Vangela Miller, (also known as Nessa)!!!
We'll begin promptly at 9:30 p.m. EST (8:30p CST, 7:30p MST, 6:30p PST), and EVERYONE is welcome to join us. Feel free to log on a few minutes early, especially since this is our first time using Google+ Hangout!
To participate, please join us on Google+ Hangout. If you already have a Google (or gmail) account, I will invite you to the Hangout as soon as I log on. (Please make sure I have your gmail name or you're on my friends' list). Just click to accept the invitation and that's it! Yes, it's that easy!
(By the way, I just played with it to make sure it really is THAT easy, and guess what?? There are even disguises for the camera-shy. Like you can choose a virtual mask, wig, glasses, and all kinds of other stuff to 'hide' your image! Cool!!! :))
If you are unable to use a computer or smartphone, we don't want you to miss out. You can listen in by teleconference:
Call 218.936.7999
access code: 727990#
Got it? It's easy! Just join us by videochat at Google Hangout or by teleconference. See you tonight!!
-
I'm ready to break bread!
-
I got the info. I'll be listening in. The operative word is "listening." Ready to dine on the Word!
-
So, the only way to participate (not just listen) is via Google chat? :-\
-
You can comment on the conference call after the Evangelist is finished. At least that's how it used to be.
-

Yea, that's what I remember, as well but everybody was on the call, or on LGM, or in the chatroom on LGM.
-
Yeah, that won't change, but after re-reading my post, I can see how it might appear that you can only participate if you're on Google+. That's not the case. You can certainly comment on the call, and you can type in the Google chat. Really the only difference now is that we're using Google instead of Yahoo IM, which is what we used to use for BS/BT (I don't remember ever using the LGM chat room for this, but ICBW). Google allows us to do the same thing we did with Yahoo IM (and with Skype), except with the added feature of video. I, for one, will be on both the call and the vc. My recommendation is being on the vc if possible, because I think being on the call only you might miss out on whatever is typed in the chat, but that's the same as it's always been. That's not new.
Those who want to call can call, those who want to vc can vc (the vc also has the use of avatars, so your image doesn't have to be shown at all, if you don't want).
I can't remember a time where there was ever more than 10 of us on at one time, so it's a really informal setting and I can't remember us ever having a problem between the phone and the YIM chat room. Hopefully things work out as smoothly tonight.
**I'm editing that post so it's a little clearer**

I'm excited! I intend to log on at least 30 mins early just to be sure, because if there are technical difficulties to be had, I want to know early, so we can bind them and send them to the pit from whence they came.

Amen, I'll do the same! So excited. I've been praying for you, I know that word is gonna be good and FOR ME!

Gotchu Britt.
Thus far, I've added LL, Britt, Hasmo (I think?), Nessa (I think?), TJ (I think?) and I already had Vonne.
Hasmo, Nessa and TJ, I used the email addresses you gave me or I already had, but no pics showed on your profile, so I'm not sure that's your active account. Please let me know. Thanks!
(Oh and mine is LeahLaRue) <----- don't quote this because I'm gonna delete that later. :)

I got two emails from you but I don't think I've received an invite.

I think you have to go to your Google+ page to see the invite.
I just started the Hangout and sent invites to everyone with whom I'm connected. Please check now and let me know if you don't see it. I'm so sorry something is wrong with my phone and I can't text. I'm about to move out to my prayer room. Nessa, I'll call you as soon as I get settled in.

Just keep in mind that you can do the vc even without a camera. If you're camera shy you can just use the text chat or use an avatar or no camera at all.
It was definitely a bit cumbersome and awkward trying to combine the phone and the chat, but in the end, if nothing else we all got the Word! :)
Thanks, Nessa. I really enjoyed it. As always, I was blessed.... and everyone's input challenged me to be a better Layla. I gleaned so much from you guys, as always.

For some reason, my mic wasn't working. I wanted to chime in. It was a good discussion. Thanks for starting this back up!

I found a video of the cookie experiment I was talking about. This is a recent one, though, and they used marshmallows instead of cookies.
Kids Marshmallow Experiment (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6EjJsPylEOY#ws)
The marshmallow experiment is a famous test of this concept conducted by Walter Mischel at Stanford University and discussed by Daniel Goleman in his popular work. In the 1960s, a group of four-year olds were given a marshmallow and promised another, only if they could wait 20 minutes before eating the first one. Some children could wait and others could not. The researchers then followed the progress of each child into adolescence, and demonstrated that those with the ability to wait were better adjusted and more dependable (determined via surveys of their parents and teachers), and scored an average of 210 points higher on the Scholastic Aptitude Test.

I really enjoyed you guys tonight. It was a word in due season. I hope we can get to get more regularly like this.
OAN Bennett really blessed me. I feel so silly sitting around here worrying about what we're going through and here's this young man still going strong in the midst of such a trying time. It just let's me know that I whine too much about nothing. Things could always be worse. :'( :'( :'( :'(
-
thank you all
while I don't think this format works for me concerning bible study (too easy for me to get distracted by a squirrel [the movie UP!]) it was great hearing you guys have bible study/talk
-
Sooo next Wed. same time?
-
I think I'm free next Wednesday, and looking forward to hearing the next teacher. I know eventually we're going to have to change it up for the students going back to school and whatnot...
Thank you all, y'all blessed me.
-
I'm free next Wednesday too!! I need all the Word I can get....FA'SHO!!! ;D
Vanessa really blessed me tonight!!

Praise God! You got next, Vonne?

The time you guys do it make it impossible for me to join in. I'm about 5 hours ahead.

I don't know about next but I need to do it so I can get over some of the things that have plagued me such as....EXTREME SHYNESS, EMBARRASSMENT ABOUT MY VOICE, NOT FEELING GOOD ENOUGH, etc, etc, etc... :-\

I had all of those. The only thing that makes it better is forcing yourself to do it as much as possible.

I agree.
All in favor of Vonne taking next, say 'aye'. :D
I mean, we can't/won't FORCE you (or even pressure you), but we can certainly encourage you. And I encourage you to give it a try Vonne. There's no way to practice getting over shyness or hang-ups without confronting them head on. I think you should go for it.

Yep, we're all family. And even in the worst case scenario, once you get your topic out there, the LGMers can have discussion and help put you at ease. You choose how you want to do it, you can ask for input early instead of going through the whole thing by yourself, I know it can feel lonely when yours is the only voice you hear, lol. I really felt the video component added a little of that live feel, because though I couldn't see everybody, I could see a few of them.
-
Awesome stuff last night, Nessa.
Praise God, pray for me, I have to do an inspirational talk at the Praise Explosion tonight... I was tempted to do my bible study on my topic for tonight so you guys could help me and give me more perspectives, lol, but the Lord wouldn't let me do that.

Exactly.
Also, I have two scriptures to help as well... well, three but I can't quite think of the third one. It's in the back of my mind, but I can't remember enough of it to find it. :D
Anyway:
When God called Jeremiah as a prophet to the nations, Jeremiah was like ?/? :o Me???? I'm just a kid.
“O Sovereign Lord,” I said, “I can’t speak for you! I’m too young!” The Lord replied, “Don’t say, ‘I’m too young,’ for you must go wherever I send you and say whatever I tell you. And don’t be afraid of the people [KJV says 'be not afraid of their faces'], for I will be with you and will protect you. I, the Lord, have spoken!” Then the Lord reached out and touched my mouth and said, “Look, I have put my words in your mouth! (Jeremiah 1:6-9 NLT)
Jeremiah wasn't the only one who was called before he felt ready. I mean honestly, the Bible is full of stories of people who had to lead, speak, prophesy, teach, preach, fight, or just GO before they felt ready. Remember Moses with his stuttering problem? Paul with his thorn AND his past... but look at what Paul said (this is one of my favorite passages - I use it every single time I have to minister):
You'll remember, friends, that when I first came to you to let you in on God's master stroke, I didn't try to impress you with polished speeches and the latest philosophy. I deliberately kept it plain and simple: first Jesus and who he is; then Jesus and what he did—Jesus crucified.
I was unsure of how to go about this, and felt totally inadequate—I was scared to death, if you want the truth of it—and so nothing I said could have impressed you or anyone else. But the Message came through anyway. God's Spirit and God's power did it, which made it clear that your life of faith is a response to God's power, not to some fancy mental or emotional footwork by me or anyone else. (I Corinthians 2:1-5 TMB)

I'm definitely in favor of Vonne teaching! You know we've all got your back, sis. It's not a popularity contest or a competition. It's just some like-minded folk getting together to share the word of the Lord. So, from the jump, know we're with you!
Good stuff last night Nessa! My kids were all around me, so I had some distractions (hence no video). But, when I was able to focus, it was great! I enjoyed everyone's input as well. I used the wrong headset last night, so you guys couldn't hear me. I'll fix that next time.
-
I would've loved to hear your input, LL. You know, it would be cool if LGM was a launching pad for someone's ministry. I could see myself inviting several of you to come teach the word at one of my conferences or something here locally. And I could see having several more come to minister musically or teach a music workshop or something. LGM is an awesome resource of gifts and talents.

That's one of the things I love about 'us' is that we're NOT trying to impress or tune up or whatever... there's no pressure to make folks shout or flood the altar or wave hankies... we're just really having a discussion and learning from each other. I love it.
Sucks that you couldn't share last night. I always look forward to hearing your input. (And it's ok if the kids are in the background... you saw BBG's fam, right? :D :D :D that was too funny! lol).

Oh, and I'm about to watch the marshmallow experiment. I'm especially interested in this kinda stuff now that I'm taking this research methods class.

That was the cutest thing ever. Those kids were hilarious. :D :D :D
And the point was not lost on me. :)

Yall make me feel like I can do this. :D
Can you do it over the phone? My computer mic sort of goes in and out.

So I was all ready for the study. I'm still upset about how close I was to attending, but when you are out of town plans sometimes change. Maybe next time. :(
-
Awwww, sorry you missed it SisterT. And I didn't even remember to record it. Ugh!!!
Vonne, you all ready for this Wednesday?
-
Well..........I knew this wouldn't last. ::)
-
WOW.
Absolutely WOW.
So, you may not believe this, but it's ok. I have a witness.
I was JUST on the phone with LL and just before we hung up, he said "hey, question. What ever happened with Bible Study?" :) To make a long story short, we're going to try to start it back up. He's going to teach next Wednesday (he would've done it this week, but his birthday is Wednesday). So, if we can find someone to facilitate this week, we'll start back up this week. (Assuming everyone is still interested).
When I saw the thread bumped up, I totally thought it was LL. I literally just got off the phone with him a few minutes ago and asked him to bump it in case I forgot. Wow.
-
Yeah so anyway, who's facilitating?
-
Funny!
What you mean facilitate? Like get it started and stuff?
-
Funny!
What you mean facilitate? Like get it started and stuff?
Yeah. The one who's going to teach as well (I'm assuming).
-
Facilitate means it's your night.... you can either teach a lesson or present a lesson topic and ask discussion questions... (a more shy person can even pull a lesson from the internet).
I just don't want everyone to think that you have to be comfortable teaching in order to take a night. You don't even have to be comfortable speaking. At a minimum, you can just find a list of relevant questions (online or through your own study or from a Sunday School book, for example) and just ask the questions. We're a pretty talkative bunch, and at the very least you know Hasmo, TJ, LL, Nessa and I will keep the convo going... and might even have questions of our own. LOL.
So yeah, I would think it could be as easy or as hard as a person wanted to make it. Right now, we just need people to volunteer so we don't burn out the same folks over and over again.
-
Is one of you volunteering?? Seems like it.... :-\
:P :D
-
Yeah. The one who's going to teach as well (I'm assuming).
Well I believe she said LL was teaching.

-
Hmm...
-
No actually, LL can't teach this week because it's his bday (as I said).... so I guess Bassbygrace is facilitating. :)
All in favor say aye.

Aye.
-
If I knew in advance, I would break the bread, but I won't have time to prepare a lesson between now and Wednesday. I'm all down for consistent Bible Study, though. I just heard Andy Stanley preach yesterday about how consistent group fellowship with christian brothers and sisters is the most effective, and, for some, the only effective way of actually applying what you learned on Sunday to your life.

Well LL has 8/15, so you wanna take 8/22?
I'll take 8/29 and if someone will hold me accountable, I'll try to do a monthly schedule at the end of each month for the month to come.
Britt, BLY, you wanna take a date in September?

I didn't even give an answer and my heart nearly popped out of my chest. :-[

I'm gonna say no for now. I'd rather say no than to agree to doing it knowing that I probably won't. :-\

That's mature.
Give yourself a month to prepare. Next month, you need to mature your no into a yes so you'll be ready to take a date in October.

I'm gonna have to peep my school schedule before I agree to anything. I know I have a night class on Wednesday, so I'm not sure what time I'll be home.
-
Ok. Keep us posted.
And we can definitely survey to see which day of the week works for everyone going forward. I think we did Wednesday this time because that was the day in that particular week where everyone was available, but it doesn't have to be Wednesday each week. It's up to y'all. I don't do anything regularly during the week, so I'm open to whatever.

Hey, I'm glad you mentioned that. Wednesdays are going to be hard for me because I have bible study and praise team rehearsal that night. We normally finish around 9-ish, so I could join in on the call on my way home. But, facilitating may be a little difficult. Thursdays are shaping up to be better days for me.
-
Since we haven't had much of a response, I guess we'll skip this week and just resume with next week's study with LL facilitating.
Is that cool with everybody?

Yep!

Sure...
-
Can we do Thursday (next week)? If tonight is any indication, I won't be home in time to facilitate on Wednesday.
-
Thursday works for me.
Anybody have conflicts with Thursday?
-
I have Bible study on Thursdays. I should be able to make it. I'll be late though.
-
Can I just say that you guys have a wonderful thing going on here. Great fellowship, online bible study. It looks like the church of the future.
-
As I have church on Thursday.

Shucks...I'm getting sleepy. :-\

Is anyone planning to do the Hangout?
I'm just asking so I'll know whether I need to do my hair and head to my prayer room. If not, I shall stay in bed with this satin cap on... lol
-
Oh, and everyone bring a piece of paper and a pen/pencil. :)

Or I can just wear a bunny mask. :)
So of all the people to show up late, Teej is late??? Wow.
-
Please send my high regards to everyone. Going to bed. Very long day tomorrow. Hopefully I'll be joining in next time.

Sorry you missed it, Bennett.
We discussed Galatians 5, with jumps to Romans 6 and Hebrews 10. The discussion was on walking in the spirit vs. fulfilling the lust of the flesh, the fruit of the spirit, etc.
We never got around to Colossians 3, but the discussion questions were:
Colossians 3:1-17
1. In verse 1, we are told to seek those things which are above. Do you ever feel like sometimes we get off-track, off-focus and forget what we are here (on earth) for? How do you balance your own goals, plans, desires with the master purpose for our life on earth?
2. In verse 3, Paul tells the Colossians “for ye are dead.” What does he mean?
3. In this chapter, he is telling Christians how to live as Christians. What is the message in verse 11?
4. He seems to place a great emphasis on how to get along with one another, even giving us a strategy to help us co-exist as Christians. What is he telling us in verses 12-17, and why is it important?
5. As human beings, how do we go about accomplishing v13?
6. How is charity the bond of perfectness? (v14)
7. What does it mean to let the peace of God “rule” in our hearts?
-
Nice! I'll answer the questions sometime between today and tomorrow.
-
So, if one was late, they couldn't attend? ?/?
-
So, if one was late, they couldn't attend? ?/?
Likely. But, not by design. There was an issue with the conference call portion (a LOT of feedback), so we scrapped the conference call portion of it and used the "Hangout" only. Thus, if someone tried to enter the conference call late, they would have found nobody there.
In hindsight, we should have posted here that there was an issue. But, in fairness, by the time we had the glitch, there was nothing to indicate that anybody else was joining the call.

Ok, that explains last night. But, as I read, there appeared to be a 'get right, or get left' 'tude, concerning late arrival, prior to last night's call.
I wonder where the call center is located, and if it's near where storms occurred last night. I know we shut down our computer because of a tornado warning last night. *just musing*

I see what you're saying. I just saw the "get right"-type comments as jokes, mostly inside jokes.
-
Yeah that was definitely a joke. This is not that serious (I mean its serious because its the Word, but its not THAT serious because its just a group of family hanging out in fellowship). I can't imagine there would ever be a rule about lateness, in fact, I expected Nessa to be late.
We shouldve posted the phone problem but it didn't even cross my mind to be honest. Like LL said, we had no indication (by post or text or email) that anyone else was planning to join in. My bad though.
-

Tomorrow for sure...LOL!
-
I had an unexpected service to play for. That's not the norm, though.
-
I have services to play for today and tomorrow. So, I won't be able to make it tomorrow.
-
Okay so who's filling in for tomorrow or are we canceling?
-
On second thought, I've said this before in less-than-direct ways, but I want to be a little more direct today.
I don't want the responsibility or burden of 'running' this group or making it work or planning schedules or anything. From this point on, someone else has to take it on. I will participate, of course, so I'll continue checking the thread to find out when the next BS/BT is being held. Thanks!
-
Well, it was fun while it lasted.
I don't see too many people, myself included, being the galvanizing force that you are when it comes to getting enough interest to pull this thing off every week. But, I feel where you're coming from, having all that you do going on. Adding the stress of organizing this weekly can be tough.
-
I can't make it tomorrow. Or all week for that matter.
-
Well, I guess we get together randomly when we can, no need to add pressure to an already busy life. I know personally, as soon as we locked in Tuesday, my Tuesdays started getting booked, lol!
-
Random get togethers is what it's looking like.
-
I suggest maybe we should try to do it once a month or two times a month. That would lessen the pressure and it would possibly be perceived as being more special as oppose to a common event.

That works for me as long as its not me coordinating. I just want to get an invitation like everyone else.

Bible Study/ Bible Talk
"Is There A Word From The Lord"
Thursday, September 6, 9:00 pm
Be there or be square
-
I'm in! But wait, I thought it was moved to another day bc people couldn't make Thursday??
-
Thursdays were always better for me anyway. I'm in- as long as I remember.
-
9pm eastern?
-
Church on Thursday. Get in the Spirit, Hasmo. :D
-
9pm eastern?
Yes indeed. Eastern.
-
I won't be able to make it.
-
For Bible Study / Bible Talk, I would like to focus on the Bible Talk portion of the initiative. I have listed some suggested topics however, it is open to other ideas. Please join us on Thursday night at 9:00 pm eastern. Access will be communicated in the Bible Study / Bible talk thread. Please hold comments for the call rather than posting on LGM.
Is there a Word from The Lord?
Of course there is a Word from the Lord for it is in you. Bring the Word with you and share with your brothers and sister.
Romans 12:16 (amp)
16 Live in harmony with one another; do not be haughty (snobbish, high-minded, exclusive), but readily adjust yourself to [people, things] and give yourselves to humble tasks. Never overestimate yourself or be wise in your own conceits.
1. Would you say that some people are placed in your life as if it were "divine frustration"? How do you adjust yourself?
2. If a person so happen to be in business with a believer who does not tithe, should that person tithe on the profit of the whole business or is it alright to tithe on their portion alone?
3. Would you agree or disagree that, "The Church is telling the Truth badly and the World is lying really good". Why?
4. How do you press/cope (faithful few) when others in the body don't share your concern or passion when it coves to various Kingdom Efforts. It could be your passion for excellence in the choir/praise team, a program or committee you may be heading, or perhaps some church project where it seems you are the only person doing all the work

Call 218.936.7999
access code: 727990#
Per my friend google...
"218 is the North American telephone area code for the northern part of the state of Minnesota. It is one of Minnesota's original two codes, although it has been modified since inception."
Is there no toll-free bridge we can use?
-
There are no free toll-free conference lines that I know of. If anyone knows of one or has access to one, we'd love to use it.
I have to admit, I never gave it any thought since I call from my cell and I have unlimited minutes (and I know it's off-peak for the east coast and most Sprint customers).
Looking forward to the study, Hasmo. Glad I saw this because I did forget.
-
Oh and I'm not doing video tonight. I can log on, but I'm gonna have to hide my image. I'm just not in the mood to fake-smile today. I'm tired and I don't feel like it. :)
-
LOL, i mixed up my dates. no practice tonight so i will be there... starts in 30 minutes
-
Yay! My friend Jackie will be joining us, too! She's excited. I'm mad bc I forgot to order my pizza, so chances are, I'm gonna have to eat during the discussion. :(
-
layla are you doing the invites again? i am not certain if Hasmo has my contact on google+
-
I don't know if I have it either... lol. I'll sign on now.
-
I don't know how to do the google invitations. I'm just on the phone holding.
-
i'll call in then
-
SO EXCITED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
OMGness I am SOOOOOOO LOVING THIS ONE!!!
I'm so sorry some of you couldn't make this. I'm enjoying soaking up nuggets from the men of God!

#thankful
last time i was not able to focus and pay attention. but this time it was great learned alot.

"The witness aspect is so anorexic in the church today." -- BBG
-
"Rhema"
In Christianity, it is used in reference to the concept of Rhematos Christou; Jesus Christ's sayings.
-
When BBG said we shouldn't be trying to avoid hell, but rather avoid separation from God a lightbulb went off.
The reason why Jesus came was not simply to prevent us from going to hell. He died for us because He loves us soooooo much that he wanted us to be with Him forever!
"I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also."
!!!

Indeed. That was a good word. When he put that finger over his mouth and leaned forward, I knew he had something heavy to share. Dude got his preach on, though. I was about to flick the lights, but I wanted to see if he was gonna tune up. :D :P
But yeah, that was good word. All of you dropped some heavy nuggets. I wish it was recorded.
-
Where's Layla?
-
LOL... good question
-
She's probably under deep cover to infiltrate and destroy the enemy thus having to go dark and getting off the grid.
