Are you calling soaps 'a beautiful genre of entertainment' or 'Guiding Light'?  :-\

I think the end of "Guiding Light" represents the beginning of the end for Soap Operas as a whole.

From what I hear soap operas are beginning to lose the popularity it once had due to reality shows and mini-drama stuff becoming popular. To me it's on the same level as sitcoms like Cosby Show, Full House, etc becoming something of yesterday (if not already). I just think Soap Operas are beginning to lose the popularity and interest it once had.

Oh. I disagree.

CBS still has Y&R; The Bold and the Beautiful and As the World Turns.

ABC has All my Children and General Hospital

As long as there's Erica Kane and Victor Newman, they'll always be soaps.  :D

So I take it you don't really pay attention to the writing.  I wish it was Y&R or Days Of Our Lives going off of the air.  These soaps have gone so over the top to where they might as well call it a comedy or a show for someone with no common sense.  I just got into watching soaps last year and I just don't get the appeal.  these people are rich, stupid, have no control of their kids, always plotting against each other, and every show has that ultimately evil person and they all copy each other.  That's entertainment?

Yeah people don't watch them much anymore.. It's sad but, people have to realize, this is a different day, women for the most part now are at work in the day, and the older people might just be watching something else now. DOOL was one of my favs, but I can't even tell you the last time I've seen "Marlenaandthem" Looks like people have moved on..

You know i really could not get into the "stories." They are soooo depressing... there's always some husband cheating on his wife.. or the wife is cheating on the hubby with his friend... there's not much hope in the stories... that's not "real" life.. I mean dAGGGGG... some couples are faithful! LOL!

But a lot of the women that i know watch those soaps, their life is VEEEEEERY similar to the soaps... always drama and weariness! LOL! i keeps away from the drama Jesus!

Well they do have the SoapNet channel now for those who want to keep up with their soaps.  I see you've been gone for a while from soaps cuz Marlena is gone from DOOL.  Deidre Hall was written out due to money issues.  Even the soaps have been affected by the economy.  While we're on DOOL, why is it that none of those folks can tell that Nicole is lying 98.7% of the time?

As The World Turns could possibly be next. They're considering canceling it.

ddw4e watchs Y&R faithfully.  I thought I'd blast him since I get the updates on Twitter.

I was a DOOL fan in Jr. High, but I agree with BFBT, they've gone way over the top with it.  And the same people are pretty much doing the same mess.

I like how they have a baby on the show and in 3 years time the baby is like 10 or 11, lol.

ROFL!!!

I also agree with BFBT. I used to be a huge fan of ABC soaps, from Ryan's Hope to General Hospital. My mom's proudest achievement is that since the premiere show in 1975?, she has never missed an episode of All My Children. :D :D :D  My oldest sister hasn't missed one either. I used to really be addicted, but after a while, it got so stupid to me, so I just kinda stopped.

Nessa, on ABC, they have babies and in 3 years time, the baby is in HS falling in love and trying to decide whether to succumb to peer pressure to take some suburban drug. LOL

So true. I used to be hooked on ABC soaps, too. Matter of fact, the storyline that got me hooked to All My Children was when Dixie was about to give birth to J.R. prematurely, and they thought the baby might die. Now this same "baby" J.R. is MY age, and has a couple of kids!!!!!!!  :D :D

I can't stand JR! LOL!!! Yeah, I remember when Adam was doing all that stuff to make Dixie think she was crazy so he could take her to court to get custody by proving her to be unfit. Yeah, that's nutty.

Same with Bianca. She was just born the other day and now she's good and grown... lol.

Don't get me started on OLTL though. That one is the worst with the unimaginable/impossible storylines. I had to stop watching once they started getting into all that silly mystical stuff.... I don't do mystical. LOL

Hopefully they'll take care of Bold and the Beautiful first.  There is not one intelligent person on that show.  I felt like a Rhodes Scholar after watching that one.

My grandmom got me hooked on the ABC trio when I was in elementary school.  I went to a catholic school and we got out early every Friday at about 1pm.  So when we got to the house the one tv was on One Life To Live, General Hospital was next, then The Edge of Night.  We had to sit through all that to get to the cartoons  ;D ;D ;D.  So I got into it until like my Junior year in high school. The peak of my interest was when they made the song "General Hospitale" & Luke married Laura.
It's sad that saturday morning cartoons, Game Show, and Soaps are going the way of the dinosaur cause it means we are not that far behind.
Only thing I have left of my childhood from a tv standpoint is Saturday Night Live.  I can't wait to see what they do with Kanye.
