Title: Proposal for the MD/DC/VA (and maybe even PA) LGM'ers
Post by: lordluvr on September 30, 2009, 09:19:10 AM
SJ and I would like to do some type of get-together- a shed, dinner, Dave & Busters or all of the above.  Tenatively, we've earmarked Saturday, Oct 10 as the date.  Let me know if you're interested and what you'd like to do.  I'm pretty sure my church will be available to shed.  csedwards, Keys and BBG, I haven't hollered at you in a minute.  It would be nice to hook up.  myvir2, Fenix and anyone else I missed, you're most definitely welcome!

I wouldn't mind adjusting to a date that accomodates the most people. I'ma hook up with SJ regardless on the 10th.

Ummmmm. NO... there will be NO tickets or car accidents. The devil is a lie! LOL.

Maryland is NOT no doggone 2.5 hours from LI. No sir. You can trick the MDers, but you can't trick a NYer.

However, I WOULD encourage you to make the trip.  ;D  (just prepare for a 3.5 hour drive).

You can drive up to ATL and we'll fly together. Or if you want to share the driving (esp if TJ was serious) we can all drive.

It's 10 hrs from ATL, though.  ::)

IRT the small print, I remembered that as I was typing... and I even remembered that LL has driven to NY a few times... it just interrupted my point, so I conveniently ignored it. LOL!

Negative.

Speaking of D&B, can y'all announce the meeting location and date so I can determine whether or not I'm gonna try to make this trip, please?  A tentative time frame would help, too.  I know you may not want to pin down the exact time, but just a time of day (morning, afternoon, evening) would help.

Thanks!

Actually, the start time will depend upon whether or not we (my church) rents out to this SDA church.  They will occupy the space for like 2 hours in the morning.  I'll let you guys know the earliest available time.

Ohhhhhhh ok. Then they're probably not a part of the SDA organization. That makes a lot more sense.

FWIW, I always thought it was a good idea for Sabbatarian churches to share with 1st day churches anyway. Save money and put those dollars into evangelism or community building.  ;D

:( :(

Still planning my trip to Selma(GKA)/Atlanta....Will be soon hopefully.

Let's get on that East Coast gathering!!!   ;D

Honey, it's been attempted a zillion times... lol.

I think if we narrowed down a date and location, it'd get the ball rolling, but that's probably easier than it sounds.  :-\

When you think of "central" you have to think of airports and drive time. On the east coast, the cheapest places to fly to will be NY/NJ, DC/MD, or Atl/Bham. I might be missing one or two, but I know Myrtle Beach isn't going to be one of them.

My recommendation would be ATL (because it's probably going to have the cheapest flights) or DC because it's easily accessible to just about everyone on the east coast.

Ok, let's take a poll:

A. 10th
B. 17th
C. 24th
D. 31st

The only date that I'm absolutely sure about for myself is the 10th, so it gets my vote.  If we decide upon another date, I'll make sure I'm available.

Ok, dates aside, here's an idea of what the itenerary will look like.  Once we come to an agreement on the date, I'll solidify the times:

-Meet & greet

-Jam session (Please feel free to bring your own instruments.  We have 2 boards, congas and drums.  We also have 2 amps. Our board can take multiple inputs (I don't remember exactly how many at the moment).  Ideally, I'd like to mic the drums and have all instruments run through the house so that we can record the session for everyone to get a copy. (Audio only)

-Lunch/Dinner.  The proposed location is Dave & Buster's.  The food is so-so, but they have an arcade, bowling alley and pool tables so that we can have some variety in our fellowship.  The catch is that Dave & Buster's is about a 30 minute drive from my church, which isn't bad, but if it's a problem for those of you who are traveling from more than an hour away, we can make arrangements, like car-pooling to the location or something.

-Go home.

Well since it's just a proposal.... LOL...

No seriously, my only reason for NOT coming is that it was gonna be at D&B. I'm not a musician, so I can't shed... and I'm not into sportsy things, so I'd be sitting in a corner, reading a book at D&B, which would mean shelling out over $350 to spend the weekend watching y'all have fun. LOL!!!  :D :D :D :D Buttttt... since D&B is so far from the church, are y'all going to consider doing the fellowship part somewhere else, or is that pretty much set in stone?

Don't get me wrong, I don't want ANYTHING changed on my behalf, not date, time, place, itinerary, nothing... I just don't want it to be moved to some place closer and then I'm like, dang, I would've gone if I had known they were gonna do it at so-and-so place.  :-\

Nope, at this point, nothing's set in stone.  D&B's was chosen because of the variety that it offers.  There are plenty of eateries that are closer to the church- assuming that we decide to use my church.  I believe it was jivelong that also offered the use of a space in VA.  At this point, I'm totally open to ideas from those that are seriously considering coming.  From there, we can reach a concensus and move forward.

Okay, lemme put my cards on the table for all to see... lol.

1. I'm seriously considering coming.
2. I actually WILL come, if the final itinerary interests me and is posted in time for me to get a reasonably priced ticket (or coordinate a ride share with MM04 and TJ - or anyone else coming from the south).
3. Because this is an MD/DC/VA thing, even though I'm seriously considering coming and WILL come, I don't want to give any real input or ideas... it's not my thing. I'll just tag along if it's something that interests me... you know what I mean? I definitely don't want any plans changed to suit me.

I'm saying it like you didn't already know that... LOL.  I guess it's for the smart mouths like CSE and anyone else who was thinking what he said aloud.  ::) ;D

Let me emphasize that this isn't necessarily an MD/DC/VA thing.  It's open to any and every person that endeavors to come.  I simply titled it that way because I thought those folks would be the most likely to want to hook up on short notice.  I had no idea that we'd get interest from ATL, AL, FL, NJ and NY.  That's wonderful!  The more the merrier, IMO.

So, input is welcome from all seriously interested parties.  That way, we can include as many folks as possible.

If it's ok with everyone, I'm going to set a deadline of tomorrow night for a final decision on the date (which is looking like the 10th).  From there, I/we can narrow down the rest of the details.

This is funny.  This all started with a PM from me to SJ asking when he and I were gonna hook up.  And, as SJ would say...THIS.  LOL

For all those who don't play man made instruments lets not forget that your voice is an instrument.  :)

I have to check out what my schedule will be for the week of 10/11/09 before I say if I can come or not.  If I have tests or a paper due that week then I won't be able to make it.  Besides, I wouldn't be playing with ya'll anyway.  I'd be watching and taking pics cause you know if there are no pics then it didn't happen  ;)

Not trying to knock on anyone's plans, but if folks are coming in from out of town, Alexandria is a better tourist attraction, IMO. We have Old Town, great restaurants, the Potomac River where folks can take a boat ride to Mt Vernon, monuments, etc., and it's just minutes to DC, and has public transportation. Not that a shed and fellowship isn't enough to make a trip worthwhile.........

I'd be happy to lend my space, but not a whole lotta room to jam. But, I can set up a drumkit, keys and some amps in the lesson room. I might be able to fit a small PA. But not as much room as a church.

Just throwin it out there.

Change the date to some time in November.

Later for the shed, LET'S GO BOWLING!

D&B?  Let's go to Red Lobster!

I'll let you know where we should meet.

The monkey in that wrench is traffic. Traffic in and out of DC/Va is MURDER!!! :-\

But if you are trying to get together around 9/10ish, the traffic, in the DC/VA direction should not be TOO bad... the traffic going in you alls direction is bad, ALL DAY.  ;) <--- would you consider this a thought i should have kept? I'm seriously trying to get better; so please, sit in prayer with me saints, better yet, Sjon.

Disagreed. Most times, it sucks BIG TIME. Sometimes, it depends on the day.

My mother lives in Spotsylvania, Va. and I've travelled to visit her enough to know.  ::) :-\

It really depends on time of day. Saturday usually isn't that bad. I have customers that cross over the bridge on Saturday afternoons all the time, no complaints about traffic unless there is an event or something like that. Now that summer vacation is over, there won't be as many tour buses and student groups going into DC.

But seriously, all it takes is one accident and traffic is bad anywhere.

Traffic out east to MD can be nasty too, especially on weekends when people are heading to the eastern shore.

OMG... if you ever DO make it to Sonic, please get a bacon, egg, and cheese wrap! I have never had a bacon/egg/cheese sandwich at a fast-food restaurant that actually had fresh, crispy bacon!!! I mean, you'd think it'd get soggy with all the cheese and egg, but it is SOOOOOOO good!!! OMG *sigh* I want one RIGHT. NOW!!!!!!  Oh, and it's not for a hungry moment, but it'll be good for the times you're already full, but want a lil snacky snack! LOL

Oh and yeah, Spotsylvania's pretty dead... lol.

Spotsy is closer to Richmond than DC. 95 heading south seems to always be backed up nowadays, especially on weekends.

But yeah, traffic around here stinks.

Change the date to some time in November.

Later for the shed, LET'S GO BOWLING!

D&B?  Let's go to Red Lobster!

I'll let you know where we should meet.

(note: there is a 0.73% chance I will attend)
(note: there is a 100% chance that because of the part in bold, all suggestions will be filed appropriately.  :D )

It's both. I had a few of my customers tell me that it's the best Soul Food in DC, and it's real cheap. They say it's the kind of place where the ladies bring secret spices hidden so no-one can see how they do it. I've been meaning to check the place out for a while.

Yes, it does.

For one, I'm not some chick from afar who is talking smack. I had every intention of coming because I have two sisters there, three nieces and four nephews there, FRIENDS there and a very special friend there.  As I said from the beginning, my participation would depend on what day, what time, and what location was selected.  In fact, when I stated that I didn't think I would make it, I made no effort to give input on the location, time, place or anything; I simply said, I think I'm going to sit this one out. If I wanted the plans to be changed, I would've said, "I would come, but I'm not interested in going to D&B or shedding, so can we xyz instead...." But I didn't. I simply said, "I'm going to sit this one out."

FURTHERMORE, in your haste to be the usual smart aleck, you FAILED to see the white print, which indicated that I was kidding about Virginia Beach.  So YES. It does indeed INVALIDATE your point.

Take two steps back, dude. Or step in someone else's direction.
