Just curious to see what the longest service you attended was.
I just had about a 4 hour service yesterday, and that was probably my longest. Great spirit filled worship where 2 families took the invitation to discipleship, but a little wordy at the end.

Not sure. I was asleep for a good portion of it....

I laugh at your 4 hour service. This is me laughing:

Last night we had a women's service that began at 5 and ended at 9:30.
We had a membership meeting on Wednesday and one of the things that came up: cutting down the length of our services (my wife brought it up and several people agreed).
It's just not NECESSARY to be in church for 4-5 hours. We can have a power-packed 2 hour service and go home

I believe strongly in 2-hour services (for the main weekly service)... I feel the only exceptions should be if someone is receiving a breakthrough or tarrying, and even in those cases, I think benediction should be given and those who want to stay to continue worshipping, should be invited to do so, with everyone else given the blessing to leave.
The longest service I can remember in my adulthood (other than shut-ins, which are usually 7-8 hours), was 6.5 hours long. The service began at 6:00p on a Sunday night and it was over at about 12:30. The speaker spoke prophetically to LITERALLY every single member of our church (except me), and a few guests as well. She really took her time with each person, and spoke in great detail, and with great specificity. It was a blessing to everyone, but I won't pretend I wasn't really antsy and clock-focused. We could've been out by 11 or 11:30 if she didn't take so long with the offering. That was especially uncool.
As a kid, we had marathon services quite often. Sunday School at 9:00a. Assembly at 10:30a. Morning Worship at 11:00a. Usually got out around 3:30-4:00ish. Went to fellowship hall for dinner (unless someone was being baptized or tarrying or something, in which case we stayed put until directed to move). Then, after dinner, prayer started (usually around 5), service started at 6 or 7, and we were finished around midnight... and yes, we got up for school every Monday morning, and did family devotion every Monday night (our only night "off" from church).

And you claim to have ADD?!?!

And you claim to have ADD?!?!
LOL! No, my doctor claims I have ADD. ;D
But for the record, I loved church when I was a kid. We had so much fun. We took field trips at least once a month in SS, and in service, we used to imitate the adults and play "grown-up" and stuff. It was a lot of fun (especially since we didn't know any better... church was all we knew)! :D The only sucky part was when we'd get sleepy and Sis. Emma or Sis. Tesa would come and give us the pinch-twist and tell us to wake up. That was pretty abusive, I think. LOL

the longest I've been in was probably about 5 hours at a small church in Brooklyn. I would have left but we were invited to sing and I didnt want to be rude. This guy preached for well over 3 hours and then someone else got up and spoke.
IMO, anything over 3.5 hours is just ridiculous, and 2.5 hours is perfect.
-
I have been in a service for about 5 hours. I think they were just trying to set a record for the longest service because after a point it was just ridiculous.
-
I had to repent! Our service went on and on yesterday. I left and did grocery shopping and it still went on another 30 minutes after I got back. We even had to visit another church that evening. MAN, Sundays are becoming a part time job. :-[

11am-5pm. it was a revival.

My wife's boss is a guy who preached a 120 hour sermon. I think it's a world record.
Imagine being the organist for that guy.

I remember going to revival services when I was in highschool that lasted for hours. Revival would start at 7pm and we wouldn't get out until 1:00 - 2:00 AM. This particular revival service targeted the youth. On an average, there were about 50+ young people giving their lives to Christ each night.
It was awesome. It was the talk of my high school at the time. Everybody was getting saved. The church hosting the revival was a small church (could accomodate 100 people). You would hved to get to church by 6:30 so you could get a seat. Revival starting out only being 5 nights, but they extended if for several weeks, because so many young people kept getting saved.
Praise and worship would last for 2 hours +. Altar call would start until 11:30, and then after all these youngs folks got saved, the saints woudld praise for another hour or two.
I remember having to go to school the next day (after getting out of church 1:00/2:00 in the morning) and not being tired and looking forward to going back to church the next night.

Hmmmmm let me think about 5 or 6 hours.I got to an old schol apostolic church. I dont mean the new school apostolic church where just about anything goes, i mean that holyness is right and the women look horrible because they cant wear anythingthat will cause one too stumble. Most important if someone want to to recieve "the holy spirit" nobody aint leaving unitl they do. It is by far the most draining thing in the world. Tarrying. Most churched dont do that no more. But i be there like please just say he cometh in a honda so we can leave lol

Benny Hinn has a Brother named Willie. Wille is like the gangster/cogic version of Benny in a good way. Extremely Awesome Man of God powerful word, beautiful spirit and very funny but...................He has so much to say! SMH!! I got so tired of new revelation. :-\ Too much in one setting is just not healthy! And he preached two nights in a row.
-

Probably for some parts of it, but I know he was out to set a world record.
-
I've been to a 4 hour sevice before and promised myself never again.
Some kinda was, Pastors have got this notion that the "longer the better", which isn't the case.
-
"I won't be keeping you much longer" = 30 minutes
"I'll be wrapping this up soon" = 45 minutes
"My first point is..." = 1 hour or more
;D

Longest service Ive been in had to be when we had an all night prayer service on a saturday night that just continued right on into sunday morning service...so most of us were there from like 7:30 pm Saturday til about 3pm Sunday...never again... I did get good nap time in during all night prayer though. Lord forgive me, but I prayed, I finished and I slept.

Well, he did say that the Sabbath was made for man, and not man for Sabbath. So I think you have already been forgiven for taking a nap on the Sabbath. ;)

1. I never understood shut-ins that begin on the night before morning worship service. That just doesn't seem to make sense to me.
2. I couldn't get with a shut-in that begins at 7:30p... unless it's over at 2 or 3 a.m.
-
Longest service I've been in was when we had a shut-in prayer;
which started at 7 pm and went all the way around til' bout 1 am.
-
Thank goodness it was the first and last time for that! Talk about being cranky, and not being very attentive during the service!
-
Shut In prayer??? We had ALL NIGHT Prayer that started on a Friday night at 10:00pm after Friday night Service and ended at 6:00am the next morning. :( SMH Yall had it good!!
-
For me, I don't consider the shut-ins, revivals, etc. to be "services" per se, but special events. I kinda expect a revival to be long, but not regular weekly services.
When I was in youth group, we had the all night shut-ins. I don't know how much we got out of those though. :-\
-
My aunts church in Detroit, they started at 10:45 and it was well after 3 before we got out of there, and I said I would NOT be back and that was in the late 80's when I was like 9 or 10 and I haven't been back either. ::)
I have been to a Jahovah Witness funeral and it lasted over 4 hrs. 4 hrs in a funeral for an 11 year old was a lil to much. :'(
-
Scheduled shut-ins & over night services one would expect to be long.
I attend a "special program" that after 6 hours I left. A friend told me the service went on for a total of 9 hours
-
Longest service I think on my record right now was a 11:00am worship service that lasted till 3pm. I'm not big about long services but I don't mind when people are being saved, delivered, etc.
Under our former pastor services would last from about 11 till 2 and 2:30 almost every Sunday and we a Baptist church in the south and in a small city?.....hmmmm that didn't go too well.
