Any body have a GC preferred player card? What are the benefits?

credit. lol. from what i know, on many purchases you get the 0% financing. also during the big sales i get coupons or dollar amount gift cards in the mail.
big DISADVANTAGE: makes it much harder to resist buying stuff.

Pretty much what Floaded said. Plus, at the store I usually browse / shop at, they used to hold pre-sale events. They'd let preferred card holders come to the store an hour before the actual sale started. You had to have an invitation to get in. You'd be handed a printed list of all the sales items and you'd have an hour before the doors actually opened to claim your loot.
I got a Music Man Bongo 5 for $895 no interest / no payments for 18 months at one of those sales. Eventually sold it for $875.
Got a Marcus Miller 4 string for $499 no interest / no payments for 6 months at another one. Eventually sold it for $725.
The store called me this weekend to tell me I have a $20 store certificate waiting for me next time I come in. I'm sure it's just a coincidence that it popped up the same time that GC is lowering the prices on all their Music Man basses.

do you have to pay to have one?

do you have to pay to have one?
No. But you probably stand a better chance of getting approved for one if you are making a purchase at the time you apply.
