I was just thinking about kids going from the children choir to the youth choir. I know at a lot of churches salvation is not required for children in the children's choir.
From the little bit I know on this topic, it's a requirement for the members of the youth choir and various types of adult choirs to be saved.
I was just thinking about the following (hypothetical) situation:
There's a kid who enjoys singing on the kid's choir and can't wait to get to the youth choir, but never asks Christ to come into their life. When he turns 11 or 12 he learns that he can't join the youth choir because he never accepted Christ. This kid is thoroughly upset and doesn't fully grasp salvation. Now what? How would you handle this situation?

Why hasn't the child been taught salvation while serving on the kid's choir? ?/?
Bible study is still Bible study. :-\

This illustration is somewhat flawed. There are not too many kids who have grown up in church who by the age of 11/12 have no clue about salvation. I am a witness (grew up in church sang in the children's/youth choir) there is no real way if the church/pastor is teaching the actual word of God effectively that the child would not be clear about it. The holy spirit has no age limit. I no that he convicts the young as well as the old. He did me that way and I knew I need Him as a child.

I'm not saying the child won't know about Christ, I'm saying that the child, in this case, hasn't accepted Christ as his/her personal Lord anf savior yet.

So, how can the child sing about someone he/she doesn't know personally? ?/?

Idk. It seems as if kids do it all the time. :-\ I doubt for a lot of kids it's even that deep. For a lot of kids it's probably just something fun to do at church.

Agreed; which is why I'm always mildly amused whenever I see kids up their singing. It's entertaining, for now, until they grow in their understanding and relationship with God.

Yeah. So lets say the kid doesn't choose to accept Christ by 12 or 13 yrs. If all the other choirs require their members to be saved you would just tell the kid, "I'm sorry, but in order to get into the youth/teen choir you have to accept Christ as your personal Lord and savior. I would think one of two things would happen. Either the kid would accept Christ to be on the choir or the kid will get angry and just say ****w it. Either way how would you minister to the kid? It's hard for me to believe that a person who accept Christ just to be on the choir truly accepted Christ. While I'm not for caving for angry kids, that kid would need to be ministered to.

You make it plain to them when they are children. This way, when they become teens, there's no fuss. This is what the requirements are for membership in this group.
I'm not seeing the problem. If your church is preaching and teaching Christ, this really shouldn't be an issue. How can you have the glory of God rest in your sanctuary when the folks 'ministering' aren't on one accord? ?/? :-\
You're doing the kid AND the church a disservice when you just put people in places for just any ol' reason. Perhaps, you should do without that particular ministry. *kanyeshrug*
